Republicans touting off-shore drilling, untapped oil reserves as they bash Democrats on oil prices

House Minority Leader John Boehner has made it abundantly clear that he thinks Democratic inaction on oil prices is a winner of a political issue in a year when Republicans are in need of a boost. He’s touting a Republican “all of the above” plan that includes drilling for oil on U.S. land and off U.S. shores -  something Democrats are opposed to. And this weekend, he, Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Urbana, and a handful of other House Republicans will head to Colorado and Alaska to highlight untapped oil reserves.

“We are not going to let this issue go,” he told reporters Wednesday, July 16.

Meanwhile, check out Sen. George Voinovich, R-Ohio, talking on this Senate Republican video about the “little gizmo” in his car that measures gas mileage.

Yep - I heard of Pickens long before his advertisements. He is known to be a smart businessmen and made his fortune in oil; however, as a smart businessman he looks for opportunities rather than using your left wing philosophy of hoping the government provides opportunities. Its called entrepreneurial pursuit and it one of the many things which makes this country great. Pickens has invested in a water pipeline to the Dallas area in hopes of selling H20 to an area that needs it. He is investing his fortune in wind farms, having already built a number of them in west Texas where the wind blows. The only wind that “Big Al” produces is that which passes through his nose and lips. His Tennessee home consumes 20 times the national average (check it out on snopes.com if you don’t believe me), even after he “greened” it up. Bush built a “green” home on his Texas ranch way back in 2001. I doubt if its coincidence that “Big Al” made his “Wind” speech shortly after Pickens started promoting the issue. History tells us he sought to take credit for the internet and it seems history is repeating itself. Ah, alas - when the facts fail you, when your argument loses, you turn to the old dependable “hate” mantra of the left. Thinking and caring people can have honest differences of opinion; however, with you if one doesn’t think or care as you then they hate. That is ludicrous! I care enough to believe the environment should be managed well so as to do no harm, being conservationists rather than environmental extremists. I care that economic opportunites present themselves so people can make their own way in life and when I see that threatened by elitist ideology such as the “big environmentalists”, then I rise in opposition. I believe in caring for the planet, but I believe in using sound reasoning in doing so. Even if alternatives hit the market tomorrow, oil would be needed for years to come. We have more reserves off our coast, in the middle of the country and ANWR than the whole Middle East combined. For the sake of national security and energy independence from those we cannot trust it only makes sense to explore and develop our own resources. For the sake of trade and jobs, it only makes sense to develop our own resources - ALL of our resources.

TRS, you are truly amazing. You have bought all the hogwash you have been told to buy, then you say other are “drinking koolaid”. “Boone Pickens”? BTW that is T. Boone Pickens. And I bet you had never heard of him before he started putting ads on TV recently. “stealing his idea”? My God, you are pathetic. You are so full of hate for people who think and care that you ignore reality and pass off Republican talking points as being somewhat akin to actuality. “blame it on Bush”? Hell, yes. What part of “Total Failure” don’t you understand? TRS, give it up. You are backing a moron and moronic policies and just making it harder for President Obama to do his job and clean up your mess.

My haven’t we been drinking the left wing kool aid. It is that “sky is falling” mantra that is the reason we are in the mess we are currently in. Science at best is unsettled on the issue, recently 31,000 well known scientists signed a letter debunking the alarmist theories, Ol “Big Al” movie was found to have multiple errors in its claims and the list goes on and on. Democrats and “big environmentalists” want us to risk this country’s future on a disputed science by waiting on some as yet to be developed alternative energy source which will be available at some yet as to be determined time at some as yet to be determined cost. Consumers will then have to figure out how to afford whatever conversions are necessary. Think oil speculation is bad - try hanging your hat on that one! No doubt, something will be developed and as time goes along, it will come on line; but, there are many steps along the way to get it to market. I happen to agree with “Big Al’s” goal for wind power - actually he is stealing Boone Pickens idea as one couldn’t expect “Big Al” to have an original idea - he just wants to get the credit. That being said, it gets back to the “not in my backyard” issue. New power lines and grids will be needed to bring the energy from where the wind blows to where it doesn’t. Much like the Kennedy’s didn’t want it in their back yard, neither will others! Certainly the Democrats don’t have the political will to force the issue and even if they did their other great constituancy, “Big Law” would be suing their way across the country to prevent it. What does that spell? Delay - delay and more delay. In the meantime the American public is waiting for their alternative energies and both national security and the economy will suffer greatly as a result. As for awareness, suggest you research the difference between “Eco Al’s” home energy usage and the President’s ranch home. I believe the word is hypocrite! You will also find that the Clintons did nothing to advance the cause of alternative fuels. The President was talking about alternative energies long before the current crisis; however, he also noted the need to develop our own energy resources. So where is the wind station I can fill up my car? How soon can I buy a solar cars? Are you libs going to step up to the plate and pay for the conversaion of a less fortunate person’s transportation to whatever energy source comes about? Better yet, are you going to buy them a new car? Doubt it. Better yet, exactly what date will we have them? If you wish, go ahead and worship at the feet of “Big Al” and “big environmentalism”; but, this is serious stuff with serious consequences and the American public wants something more than a wing and a prayer. They aren’t buying your kool aid, many Democrats are coming around and you can look at their desperation tactics, seeking to prevent this from coming to a vote prior to the election. Their real motive - let the American people suffer, blame it on Bush and gain more power. Then after the election, have a light bulb moment and open up more drilling. Now thats a real caring group of folks…

” The Republicans advocate development of alternative energy sources as well as exploring and developing the energy reserves we know we have.”(TRS) Sure they do. And they just got that idea three or four weeks ago when someone pointed out to them that we are in an energy crisis. “Democrats and “big environmentalism” are not just hand in hand - they are lock step.”(TRS) And isn’t that wonderful! That would be the exact opposite of everything the Republicans have stood for for the past 30 years. Which is precisely why we have no organized national program to keep and save our environment. I would suggest that you look to Nobel Laureat, Al Gore’s message of today about the need for a “Man to the moon” type program to do what is needed. I believe the last i heard from the Bush Administration was that they would try, emphasis on “try”, to accomplish something by 2050. I guess that is another memo Bush was too dumb to read. Loser, the planet in in trouble now, 2050 doesn’t cut it. “They speculate that some sort of alternative energy source and distribution system will be available in the near future”(TRS) Trs, in 1962 when Kennedy called on America to go to the moon by 1970, our scientists had not the faintest idea of how to do that little project. But they and we did it.”I don’t think we should stake our national security and economy on the hope that energy needs can be met” Neither do I, that is why I refuse to rely on a bunch of anti-science numbskulls who have done everything in their power to poo poo any scientific fact that was ever put in front of them. For your own sake,TRS, and for the sake of your country and the world, you had better not rely on anything the Republican party and it’s Big Oil owners try to stiff you with. It ain’t going to do nothing for any problem we have. Never. Do it the sensible way, the Obama way and the Gore way. Gee, just think, if Gore was in the White House, as he rightfully should be, we wouldn’t be worried about Iraq or Energy. He would solved those problems in his first term, with no loss of life in Iraq.

Actually in energy independence. Democrats and “big environmentalism” are not just hand in hand - they are lock step. They speculate that some sort of alternative energy source and distribution system will be available in the near future and seemingly everyone will be able to run right out and buy the product which uses that energy. The Republicans advocate development of alternative energy sources as well as exploring and developing the energy reserves we know we have. I appreciate Senator Obama’s message of hope but I don’t think we should stake our national security and economy on the hope that energy needs can be met in a as yet to be determined manner and timeframe. This is America - we can do it all, we can do it safely and we need to do it now.
