Obama leads McCain in new Ohio poll

Democrat Barack Obama leads Republican John McCain 48-40 percent in Ohio in a new Public Policy Polling poll.

The poll also shows incumbent Republican U.S. Sen. George Voinovich could be vulnerable to challenge in a 2010 re-election bid.

The poll was released Monday, July 21. Obama led 50-39 percent in PPP’s June poll. The poll is based in Raleigh, N.C.

McCain leads Obama 46-42 percent among white voters but Obama’s 91-6 lead among black voters puts him ahead overall.

“Right now Obama is in a pretty good position in Ohio,” Dean Debnam, PPP president, said in a press release. “His standing with black voters is not surprising, but he is also doing unusually well with white voters in the state.

“Whether he can sustain that level of support or not will probably determine if he can take this state.”

In hypothetical 2010 U.S. Senate matchups, Democratic Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner led Voinovich, 42-38 percent. Voinovich led Democratic Columbus Mayor Mike Coleman, 39-37 percent.

The poll was taken from Thursday, July 17, to Sunday, July 20, with 1,058 likely voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

“Drill Now’s” comment that black people will vote for Obama only because he is black clearly shows that he or she has had limited contact with black people. If race were the only criteria for black voters, Kenneth Blackwell most certainly would have made a better showing in the Ohio gubernatorial election.

Chris Mathhews? There’s a totally unbiased member of the media! You conservatives believe everything you hear on the republican, that is Fox network. Conservative republicans have proven themselves to be lying, corrupt, incompetant, and self-serving. No intelligent person would vote for for a republican, unless they’re part of the Ole Boys network. Remember Katrina? Remember WMD? Remember tax cuts for the rich? How’s that working for us?

by the way, all of you kool-aid drinking liberals who think Obama is the best thing since sliced bread, Martin Luther King Jr was a republican.

I guess that there are a lot of miss-informed people out there due to the one sided reporting from the main stream liberal media. Cris Mathews gets that tingling feeling up his leg When someone mentions Obama. Is anyone else sick of the love affair that the main stream midea has with him?? Black people will vote for him only because he is black. What about that ugly, nasty “white” half? This man has more moves than a snake.

Amazing! Just listen to the black racists on this board. Obama is a anti-capitalist socialist who will destroy our economy and take away our liberties. And the racists vote for him just because he is black. They vote for him because they believe he will take away money from rich white people and put it in their packet. Disgusting!

Get rid of the lobbyists who run the politicians who run this country. The money spent on campaigning (billions) could be spent elsewhere.

The sole reason Obama leads in the polls is gullibility of the uneducated masses. The “sheeple” simply follow along with the fantasy of “hope”. Obama is showing nothing concrete, just smoke and mirrors. Look at the posts on this topic, and one can separate the wheat from the chaff. I almost hope he wins so all you fools get what you deserve - nothing!

It’s still a choice between two candidates who support equally unsustainable economic strategies, equally unconstitutional policies…one supports killing kids in the womb, and one wants to wait until they’re out of it. What a choice!

Being white, middle class, employed, christian and, a veteran, and I support Obama for president. This presidential election is not about stereotypes. It is about the future of our country. And, I see Senator Obama as the best hope for our future. In the past seven + years, we have seen how a republican party has used lies, deceptions and propaganda to get their way. A war, based upon lies, an executive branch that ignored the constitution and violated the law, a president that uses “executive prvilege” as a way to protect the criminals in his cabinet. A president Bush that is more connected to corporate greed than his responsibility to the citizens of our country. The Republicans lack moral values, honesty and character; And, McCain is one of them.

Douglas, I am not a republican nor do I support McCain and neither am I a fool. When I last checked, each registered voter has the sacred, constitutional right to choose the candidate of their choice. I have been a registered voter since 1972, have volunteered during campaigns and elections. I have so frequently observed that some Obama supporters will automatically assume that if you are black, you will be an Obama supporter. If you are not, they will wonder if you are not aware of what your self-interests are. It is important to try to understand the various polls that are being published and scrutinize them carefully. The magic number in November will be 270 electoral votes. It has not yet been demonstated conclusively in my careful research nor by the Obama supporters that Obama will carry most of the southern states, New York, Ohio, Florida and a number of others who have historically voted Republican.

I really don’t have much hope for either candidate. One is a communist, or a communist wannabe. I do not buy the Obama=hope crap. The only “change” that he is after is what will be what is left in my paycheck after all that big time government spending. The other one (the old dude) has been wrong on so many things in the past it isn’t funny. Sometimes he is more liberal then the liberals. I want to vote for Cthulhu (look it up if you don’t know), at least then I can feel safe in knowing I voted for something who is more evil then I am, and is honest about it.

Lower taxes and more responsible spending is what McCain stands for. Why not give Ohio a fighting chance to land new business and new jobs?

Great news! Go Obama! Democrats like me will talk about how great our candidate is and how much better we will be with him as president. The Repulicans on the other hand have focused a lot of energy only talking about how much worse Obama is then McCain. Keep it up it’s obviously working.

Are you kidding me, RUKiddingMe? I love that it’s always the paranoid white person that has to be the first to use the “race card” excuse and then back it up with the opinion of all the many EMPLOYED black people they know. I suppose all of their EMPLOYED black friends probably run in the same circles as the gay friends (you know the friends they reference when they bash gay people). All of the white people I know (the educated ones) are supporting Barack Obama.

So I guess if you go by Douglas’ comments Condi Rice’s dad was a fool. He was a member of the Republican party because the Democrats in his county tried to stop African Americans from voting.

Why would any African-American support someone that voted against a federal holiday recognizing the greatest civil rights leader of anyone’s time, Martin Luther King Jr? While John McCain will never be confused with Jesse Helms that vote surely shows he shares some beliefs with him.

Any African-American that supports the Rebulican party is a fool, plain and simple. Alpha, take a hard look at McCain’s long-term record and candidacy and see who really has your best interests as an African-American in mind.

I am an employed liberal with an active social and home life who supports Obama all the way and who knows how to spell “poll” in this context. Our country can’t stand 4 more years of conservative repiblicans.

I am an employed African-American who “does not” support Obama for numerous reasons based on my own research and long term tracking of his of his candidacy. I only know a few who do not back him. They are all well informed politically and make a great effort to document their positions with well thought out, reasoned, and researched information.

The only people who participate in these poles must be those who are unemployed, have no social life and nothing else to do aka liberals. 91-6 lead among black voters? None of the blacks I know (the employed ones) want him either. They have already figured out that he is playing a race card that he is not entitled to.
