McCain vows he’ll fight, says he is the right candidate for the economy
John McCain used the last week of the 2008 presidential campaign to try to position himself as the better candidate for the economy and to let a Kettering crowd know that even though he lags in the polls, he isn’t giving up.
Speaking at the James S. Trent Arena behind Fairmont High School in Kettering, McCain, the Republican nominee for president, told an enthusiastic crowd that “nothing is inevitable here” and that his campaign is ready to “fight to the end.”
“Let me give you the state of the race today,” he said. “There’s eight days to go. We’re a few points down. The pundits have written us off, just like they’ve done before four or five times.”
But he told the crowd he would fight until the election’s end. “I’ve never been the kind to back down when the stakes are high,” he said.
McCain also used the rally as a chance to criticize Democrat Barack Obama’s economic plans and pit himself as the right candidate to fix the economy.
“He believes in redistributing wealth, not in policies that grow our economy and create jobs,” McCain said. “He is more interested in controlling wealth than in creating it, in redistributing money instead of spreading opportunity. I am going to create wealth for all Americans, by creating opportunity for all Americans.”
McCain said Obama has voted “94 times” for tax increases or against tax cuts, and made a charge that has become familiar in this campaign: That Obama, if elected, would raise taxes. Obama has said he would only raise taxes for those who earn $250,000 or more a year, and that he would cut taxes for those who earn less.
But McCain said Obama’s “massive new tax increase” would be the “wrong approach” in an economic slowdown.
“The answer to a slowing economy is not higher taxes, but that is exactly what is going to happen when the Democrats have total control of Washington,” he said. “We can’t let that happen. We need pro-growth and pro-jobs economic policies, not pro-government spending programs paid for with higher taxes.”
He also sought to separate himself from President Bush, repeating a refrain he made during a stop in Cleveland this morning.
“We cannot spend the next four years as we have spent much of the last eight: spending ourselves into a ditch and hoping that the consequences don’t come,” he said. “We need to get our government under control, and we need to get our economy moving again. We have to act. We need a new direction, and we have to fight for it.”
He said if he were elected, he would double the child deduction for working families, cut the capital gains taxes and cut business taxes.” And he said he would cut spending.
“I’m going to make the government live on a budget just like you do,” he said.

I can hardly wait to see Obama in the White House. I’m soooo sick of these incompetent and uncaring Republicans. Never forget the picture of McCain and Bush holding a cake and grinning as poor people drowned in New Orleans. Never forget illegal wiretaps, torture and an illegal war.It can’t come too soon.

I heard this on XM Radio this AM. Doubt it really happened, but it is great food for thought as prepare to vote. Enjoy! Redistribution of wealth Today on my way to lunch I passed a homeless guy with a sign the read “Vote Obama, I need the money.” I laughed. Once in the restaurant my server had on a “Obama 08” T-shirt, again I laughed-just imagine the coincidence. Suddenly, it hit me. An experiment is in order. I asked the server, did he really believe that Obama”s platform was a good one? Yes, he did. When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him that I was exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need - the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed from my sight. I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10, and told him to thank the server inside as I”ve decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful. At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn, even though the actual recipient needed the money more. I guess redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical application - at least if it is your wealth that is being redistributed. Be wary. Be afraid. Once socialism starts, there is no end. The productive citizens wind up supporting the non-productive ones forever, and what you earn becomes no longer yours. Wait a minute, isn”t that already happening? Oh yeah, it is. Well, let”s try and keep it from getting worse. PS. I wonder how the waiter feels about redistribution of the wealth, now?

What this election comes down to is replacing Bush’s rogue fascism with democracy and unity. Americans need to remember: Katrina, The Gonzalez scandal, Illegal Wire tapping, Torture, Habeas corpus, No Child Left Behind, Eavesdropping on innocent Americans international phone calls, Unemployment through the roof, Jobs shipped overseas, Valerie Plame, not honoring subpoenas, Weapons of Mass destruction lie, “Mission Accomplished”, the economy, etc… The list goes on and on. We need a new direction in Washington, and Barack Obama will bring the change we need.

It the millionaire makes the money and he did it legally he probably also created income for other people. There’s no trickle down, it’s side to side, big piece and littler pieces. Why should you or anyone get a bigger piece of the pie than the guy who bought the ingredients and baked the darned pie? Obama wants to take it from the earners and give it to the non earners or the ones less vested. There’s new reports coming out showing how dangerous Obama and his crew of crooks are. Be very wary of what is coming. There’s not an honest bone in that guy’s body.

Jim, Obama wants to redistribute the money in this country. Not once has he ever said people should try to earn more money, nope, he’s just going to decide who should get it and he has already decided who is going to pay it. Nobama is a pathetic example to run for prez, but he’s hit a chord with a group of really stupid people who are underachieving and blaming the repubs for their inablity to get ahead. If nObama makes it, he’s a 1 term prez with the repubs right back and you folks with crows feet sticking out of your yaps.

You come on here and start name calling, the problem with people who think like you is that you’re arguments can’t stand on their merits and principles so you have to resort to name calling. Yup I definitely don’t know what an alt document loan is, I’ve never heard of the Consumer Recovery Act(CRA), now I have heard of the Community Reinvestment Act(CRA)… and look I didn’t have to resort to name calling you made yourself look bad all by yourself.

No one is FOR dirty air or water. The moonbats use the global warming hoax to slow capitalism (except for countries like china and India, who were exempt from kyoto.) How does drilling for our own oil off shore and ANWAR, building refineries or building nuclear power plants hurt the planet? It doesn’t. The sierra club became the new home for the communist party as a tool against capitalism. With the trifecta of Obama, Reid and Pelosi, they won’t have to hide anymore.

Sheep: You are surely a mental giant. I believe the post stated 30% of all subprime loans were by investors. Who said all subprime loans are in default. Do you even know what a subprime or alt-A loan is? I cannot verify the 50% subprimes were bought in the secondary market, but they weren’t covered under the Consumer Recovery Act(CRA). From your post you have received a fine edumacation. Yes, you are truly a sheep being led to slaughter.

I could have supported John McCain in 2000. But he has lost touch with reality. He wants to raise taxes on our health care! I have too many family members struggling to make it now, with health care costs thru the roof. How is raising our taxes on our health insurance NOT a new tax???? Maybe McCain was a maverick at one point. But not now. He is another big-spending and tax us to pay for it Republican, and he can’t get my vote.

His record as a Navy aviator during the Vietnam War is more than a stirring story of patriotism and selflessness. McCain’s behavior as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam demonstrated that, at his core, he puts duty, honor and country above all else. Strangely, his opponents have begun to mock McCain’s record as a maverick, even as they call upon the federal government to be less preoccupied with partisanship. But McCain’s 25 years in Congress show a pattern of eagerness to work with politicians of both major political parties to get things done. On controversial issues, McCain has been a motivator - not just a proponent - of change since long before the term became a slogan. National security, a key concern of most Americans, has been McCain’s strength. Most Americans are fully aware of his tenacity in fighting for what is right in defense policy, as well as for members of the armed services. That sometimes has forced him into conflict, even with leaders of his own party. McCain, of course, was an early critic of the failed strategy in Iraq - and a proponent of the new, successful plan. McCain recognizes that the size of government needs to be reduced -not expanded, as his opponent, Sen. Barack Obama, wants. Smaller government leads to lower taxes, allowing Americans to keep more of their money and grow our economy. Had Congress reacted properly to an initiative McCain helped lead in 2005, the current financial crisis probably would not be occurring. McCain was a co-sponsor on Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, which would have reined in many of the abuses involving “subprime” mortgages. Liberals in Congress defeated the measure. Troubling questions remain about the character of Obama. He was elected to the Senate with the help of the Chicago political machine. His personal associations involved a leader of the 1960s Weather Underground terrorist organization, William Ayers, and Obama’s association of many years with his pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, ended only when the relationship was brought to light by the news media. McCain’s character, on the other hand, has been one of working closely with those who would build America up - not tear her down. It is not too much to say that the contest for president this year pits a dedicated liberal politician, Obama, against a veteran servant of the public - McCain. Obama is easily the most liberal of the 100 senators. His running mate, Sen. Joseph Biden, is a close second. Simply because McCain’s character has been one of service to the people - not to a political party or the gigantic federal bureaucracy - we urge residents of our area to cast their ballots for John McCain, the leader Americans need.

Sheeple (I prefer “dumb masses”)- The sub-prime mess definitely played a big part in the economic mess. When something stinks in Washington, all you have to do is follow the money…Dodd, Frank, Kerry and Obama was #2 (pun intended;) But I would add that if the housing was the bubble, that high fuel prices was the needle, and as much as the libs like to blame Bush for his “big-oil” buddies, the fact is that the environmental moonbats of the dem party are squarely to blame for the price of energy.

so the 70% of non investors who defaulted don’t matter? The majority of the 50% of subprime loans given out by independent mortgage companies were purchased in the secondary market by Fannie and Freddie due to eased underwriting encouraged by the feds in order to meet mandated affordable housing goals. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac hold over $500 billion in billion in Alt-A mortgages, that’s half a Trillion. Who was overseeing this Fraud? The house Financial Services Committee, who chairs that committee? What members of Congress received the largest donations from Fannie and Freddie, Mr. Obama, Mr. Frank and Mr. Dodd. This doesn’t even cover Mr. Raines and Mr. Johnson.

I’ve got news for you Cag, Obama supporters work for a living too. You’re statement reeks of the same divisive rhetoric that McCain has been using throughout his campaign. Your implication that only Republicans work is offensive and wrong. You’re being duped into believing that Obama wants to handout money to bums. Nonsense! There is no such thing anywhere in his platform. Obama will cut taxes to the average working American that needs tax relief. Why are you Republicans, who are making less then 250k, trying to protect the fat cats? Don’t be mislead by McCain’s claim that Obama will raise everyone’s taxes. It’s simply not true.

I’m still trying to figure out how Obama is going to fund 1 trillion dollars worth of ideas without raising taxes? Doesn’t anyone else feel concerned that the democratic candidate obtains his economic ideas from Karl Marx? Spread the wealth, that’s the idea of economic communism. I also don’t understand why anyone would want a democratic president. Where would the checks and balances be on the legislative body. The last I saw, the U.S. Congress (democratic majority) approval rating was worse than Bush’s. Why should we trust the democrats?

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this: The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing. The fifth would pay $1. The sixth would pay $3. The seventh would pay $7. The eighth would pay $12. The ninth would pay $18. The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59. So, that’s what they decided to do. The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. ‘Since you are all such good customers, he said, ‘I’m going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20. Drinks for the ten now cost just $80. The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his ‘fair share?’ They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody’s share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man’s bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay. And so: The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings). The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings). The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings). The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings). The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings). The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings). Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings. ‘I only got a dollar out of the $20,’declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,’ but he got $10!’ ‘Yeah, that’s right,’ exclaimed the fifth man. ‘I only saved a dollar, too. It’s unfair that he got ten times more than I!’ ‘That’s true!!’ shouted the seventh man. ‘Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!’ ‘Wait a minute,’ yelled the first four men in unison. ‘We didn’t get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!’ The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up. The next night the tenth man didn’t show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn’t have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill! And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier. David R. Kamerschen, Ph.D. Professor of Economics, University of Georgia For those who understand, no explanation is needed. For those who do not understand, no explanation is possible.

To all you individuals that like to read their fascist publications, please read some factual info concerning foreclosures. This was put out by the NAR(National Assoc. of Realtors) concerning home foreclosures. 30% of all subprime and alt-A loans were made to investors for 2nd and 3rd homes for investment properties. The majority of these homes went into foreclsure due to the housing bubble with most being located in California, Las Vegas, Phoenix and Florida. These areas were the hardest hit areas in the US housing market. 50% of all subprime loans were given out by independent mortgage companies not under the CRA’s jurisdiction, which means these loans weren’t under the program. Please report the facts and not what you read off your fascist websites. If you all voted responsibly 8 years ago we might have avoided this financial crisis. You all no better. Thanks for selling out our future and generations to follow.

This “Sheeple” term has been thrown around quite a bit, when in reality it can easily apply to members of either party. Get passed the name calling and talk about some facts, neither of these candidates is going to be our savior, just put your support behind whoever gets elected and start becoming part of the solution. Reciting false information on BOTH candidates you are doing nothing to better the country and further dividing it. Last I checked this was the United States of America, not the United States of us vs. them.

Tlft2 thanks for making my arguments for uninformed voters, you’re the posterchild. Ever heard of the Community Reinvestment Act, that was passed by your buddy Jimmy Carter, it had absolutely nothing to do with deregulation, the root of the problem is the large number of homes that are in foreclosure. GW and many bipartisan members of congress tried at least three times to pass regulation for Fannie and Freddie only to be thwarted by Barney Frank and Chris Dodd who screamed the R word “Racism”. You obviously won’t believe this so check out this link and watch Senator Frank in action, don’t let the FACTS get in the way of reality. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RZVw3no2A4&feature=iv&annotationid=event597487) The poorly constructed bailout bill led by Pelosi was supposed to buy up these foreclosed mortgages and free up capital for lending, however the bill was so poorly written that the banks can do pretty much whatever they choose with bailout money they receive, is it any wonder that Pelosi’s approval rating is below 10% Obama is not going to renew the Bush tax cuts this will raise taxes on the majority of the middle class, his plan will send refund/rebate checks to people who pay no income tax at all, remember the bottom 40% of wage earners in this country pay no income tax, how is that NOT socialistic. How many jobs have you got from a poor person, freezing tax rates on the Wealthy is not income REDISTRIBUTION, because it was never distributed in the first place, those people EARNED their money and have every right to do with it as they please. If you’re too unmotivated to achieve and make money at a high level then to bad, you have absolutely no right whatsoever to assume that the government is going to take from motivated hardworking people, who have taken chances and busted their butts in order to give it to weak, unmotivated drags on society, this is WRONG.

If we take a step back and look at the real issues at stake in November, it becomes obvious that this election isn’t about electing democrats or republicans, or even about liberals versus conservatives. It’s about replacing democracy with socialism. Currently we have a government “of the people, by the people and for the people”. If Obama gets elected and democrats maintain control of the house and senate, we will soon have a People “of the government, by the government and for the government. Obama and Democratic Party know they cannot win by honestly proclaiming their socialist dreams to the American public so they disguise their agenda and hope that “WE THE PEOPLE” will not see through their propaganda. You can put democratic lipstick on a socialist pig…..but its still a pig and the American people are smart enough to know the difference! A persons character can be judged by their associations and weighing their actions against their words. When a candidate espouses the values of the middle class during a speech in Pennsylvania and ridicules them before a group of social elitists a few days later in San Francisco, you have to doubt the content of their character. A very wise and great man had a dream that one day in America, a “man would be judged by the content of his character and not the color of his skin” That is exactly the reason why “WE THE PEOPLE” cannot support Barack Obama as president of the United States of America.

WL: Wow that was great Senator Obama! You laid out that ol’ Bushie with a left, and a right, and a combo — and Mac, too. And I was right there behind you all the way! I see you are busy packing to go to Washington now — no time for a victory celebration with your old supporter. OBAMA: Uh huh. WL: Well, you must be ready to start creating those millions of jobs… OBAMA: Hold on, I said millions of “dollars” will be used to create jobs related somehow to alternative energy and so on. I said nothing about millions of jobs. WL: Well there’s your universal health care plan… OBAMA: Actually, I triangulated my position there. I promised to spend billions on government programs while tightening the screws on private insurers. I said nothing about “universal” coverage. WL: Gee, that was smart. I know you will be reforming affirmative action for us White supporters, right? You even said it “might” need to be looked at in the campaign. That means “definitely” in the code between us insiders… probably. OBAMA: Uh, definitely “probably”. (To be continued)

OK you, asked for it, sheeple. This statement to quote: to the morons (he/she said it first) who post here—-The Democrats caused all the current economic disaster by refusing to regulate Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, you can’t hide for that fact. is patently false. both of the above instututions enabled millions of homeowners to achieve a part of the American dream, owning their own home. But the deregulation came full force with the Rebulican congress. And with that came greed. How about Lehman Brothers, AIG and other financial institutions that continue partying because the government bailed them out. Is that not socialism, (for the rich)? But that term is used against Obama falsely. He will, according to an independent tax organization and even some conservatives, give more tax breaks to the middle class and increase the tax on the VERY wealthy. The last President to do this balanced the budget and created 8 years of prosperity. Remember him? The term socialist is used simply to engender fear, and unreasonable, unfounded fear at that. And this statement: As the Dems caused the current nightmare, what are you going to do when the country is socialized, taxes go up, and companies close US operations associated with Obama’s tax plan. Look for gas to soar, jobs to fly oversee,(sic) and the deficit plummet. is on the face of it untrue. Taxes will go up for those making over a quarter million a year..,. like those CEOs whose greed caused this tempest in the first place. Companies going out of business?? I live in Ohio, and that’s been going on since Bush got elected without the majority vote (Gore actually came out ahead). A million people in the US have lost jobs since 2008 began. Gas to soar..you mean more than 4 bucks per, until the election came around. And it’s too bad the deficit did not “plummet”, but now it’s the highest ever, with the Republican plan to fund a 3 trillion dollar war, a $700 billion bailout of corporations guilty of malfeasance, huge tax breaks for the wealthy (THAT is redistribution of wealth!) but no health care for children. I could go on, (especially with that fearful, totally illogical post by jasmine)but you oouldn’t care anyway. Sheep follow their masters blindly.

As we have discovered with the world economic crisis – and will too soon be learning as global warming becomes a tangible threat (if it hasn’t already) – all of us on this planet are in this together. It is my conviction that Barack Obama is the right man at the right time to lead America into the 21st century – not back to the 20th.

If you want your freedom, your money, your security & possibly your job to go away then vote for Obama. He is going to take it all away from us. Take from the people that work hard and give it to the people who want something for nothing. He talks about the middle class all the time, but he is only going to give our money to the lazy, good for nothing people in this country. There are so many negative things about Obama and I cannot understand why people are actually voting for him. He went to a church for 20 years where the Reverand said G* D** America! How can you go to a church for that long and not know that he is saying things like that? Obama will not give the whole story about William Ayers, the radical terroist that he knows well. He has ties to ACORN who is trying to “fix” this election. ACORN is about “community organizers” which is what Obama’s claim to fame is. What does that say about community organizers? I am honestly scared to death to think about how this great country may end up if he becomes president. The entire government will be democratic pretty much. I really believe that they will take away freedom as we know it. They are ok with killing babies yet they don’t believe in the dealth penalty. I am pro-life, pro-gun, pro-religion, patriotic & I do not believe in “spreading the wealth”. There is only one clear choice in this presidential election, the only man that has really “fought” for you! John S. McCain!

The primary of function is - are you ready for this? - redistribution of wealth! That’s what taxes are. The government collects taxes from us, then spends them on things like highways, bridges, schools, tanks, aircraft, missiles, etc - you get the idea. Job creation is - wealth redistribution! If i am an employer, i am spending my capital for services rendered by my employees… Please spare me the medieval “take from the rich to give to the poor” spin.
