Gov. Strickland’s slumber party
While many Ohio lawmakers and Democratic luminaries spent Monday night crashed out at the swank Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C., Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland relied on more modest accommodations.
He slept in Ohio’s Washington, D.C. office, not far from Union Station. After driving in with security detail, his chief of staff and a friend, Strickland and company bunked up for the night in an office outfitted with a couch, a couple of desks and a coffee table.
He said the group did it because Ohio’s budget is “really tight” and getting a hotel room would’ve been costly. “So we had our own slumber party, so to speak,” he said.
Strickland stripped the cushions off the couch and laid them on the floor, sleeping in a sleeping bag. Security took the couch, without the cushions. Everyone else crashed where they could.
All told, Strickland, who washed his hair for the swearing-in in a sink down the hall, got about four hours of sleep.
“He says I snore,” Strickland said at about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, pointing to a staffer. “And I don’t believe it.”

First, it is the Republicans that caused this mess, so in my view they should sit down, open their ears and close their mouths. Sounds like Strickland has a better grasp on how to spend money than our new President who today sported a $170M innagural. And remember, in 2004, Democrats urged George W. Bush to be sensitive of the perception of excessive celebration; Bush spent $40M. Given our financial position, why spend any money on the celebration? $170M is an outrageous amount given that the taxpayers had to pick up $50M just for security. I like Strickland and his leadership.By jon

Governor trying to save the state money on a hotel room.Ha,Ha, what a joke. This is the same individual who would not fire Jones-Kelley and cost the state $50,000 in security for her. (then she quit a month later). Talk about stepping over a dollar to pick up a penny. The truth is the governer and his “team” probably messed up the reservations and Strickland decided to spin this as “taking one for the team”. If this wasn’t a spin then why did he allow the media to know about his sleeping situation and allow them to take pictures?By Get Real

Far enough Jenn….when some of the President’s proposals don’t work and the debt grow by leaps and bounds as it is expected to do, then we don’t want to hear any excuses from you either.By jen

I am conservative and did not support President Obama; but, in truth, who cares about the racial make up - it lacks relevancy.By jack

Jen, as a Republican, just know that not all of us think like Philman. I dont really care if he is half black, 48% black, 67% black. Not sure what the percentage of his skin color has to do with how he performs his job. What I am most looking forward to is tomorrow morning when people wake up and realize nothing has changed. When you elect your candidate based under the same criteria as an American Idol contestant, America will continue to have serious issues. By the way, I ripped on Strickland for spending a lot of tax dollars a few months back at a Governer’s retreat, so I do have to credit him now for saving us money….but on the same note, Ohio + Democrats + slumber party…perhaps not the best “title for a story.” Did not see any pictures of the wives…?By me

Who cares if he is half white; he still is consider an African American. Most black people in the US have some other race in their blood; just like white people may have a mix of an another race in their blood. Philman; people like you are still trying to divided with hatred. It’s time we try to get along and get things done for our children to have a future. Obama can’t do any worse than what Bush has done.By Patty

That’s right Obama is biracial. He represents black and white Americans. That is how we are united, we have blended. Obama is the President for black and white Americans.By Philman

It’s amazing the keeps shouting the first African American President, but he is HALF WHITE,I can’t help but wonder if he were Republican would the liberal media DDN included, point out that fact, how much white blood do you have to have to Qualify a mention, I heard that in one of Obama’s book’s he said he wished he could Purge his white Mothers blood from his Veins if that is not true I stand corrected.also if he were Republican the media would point out how Unqualified he is for this job…..
