Iraq War vet announces run for state treasurer

Republican Josh Mandel, a state representative from Lyndhurst, announced his candidacy for state treasurer Thursday, May 28, in a six-minute online video posted to his web site.

Mandel, 31, said in the video, “I’m running for treasurer because we need a treasurer who is going to protect the people’s dollars now and also for future generations.”

His senior year at Ohio State University, Mandel decided to join the Marine Corps Reserve. He served as an intelligence specialist and did two deployments in Iraq, most recently in 2007.

After serving on the Lyndhurst City Council, Mandel was elected to the Ohio House in 2006 where he was quickly marked as a rising GOP star and a prolific fund-raiser.

Mandel will square off for state treasurer against Democrat Kevin Boyce, a former Columbus City Councilman who was appointed treasurer earlier this year by Gov. Ted Strickland when Richard Cordray left the treasurer’s office to become attorney general.

If you people want to know more info (education, experience) about a republican candidate, you’re reading the wrong newspaper. The DDN is very biased.

Hey J, If you are a veteran and have served, then you would know how to budget inventory, supplies, and men. But obviously a commie like you would never support a veteran.

Josh Mandal is outstanding - he is a marine, an attorney and state representative. This guy is the real deal and once you meet him you will love him. H e be Governor on day. But for now, he will make an excellent State Treasurer.

I will not vote for someone because they served in Iraq. I want to know what experience- education- he has to do the job. I don’t know anything about the democrat currently serving. I will compare credentials.

I will vote for this man. However I want to know what his training is,Does he have a CPA or MBA? What type of background he has. I wont vote for a person due to the fact he may be a Veteran. Should it matter if he served in Iraq or Nam, or Korea. What is his background.. Thats what I look for in voting.
