Dems, GOP battle as Kasich enters race for governor

Ohio Democrats and Republicans warmed up for Republican John Kasich’s entry into the 2010 governor’s race on Monday, June 1, by bashing each others’ candidates.

Hours before Kasich was to formally enter the race with an announcement in Westerville, the Ohio Democratic Party released a web video trashing Kasich for serving as a managing director for Lehman Brothers after Kasich left the U.S. House in 2001. Lehman Brothers, the investment banking firm, went bankrupt in 2008.

“Ohio does not need a governor from Wall Street,” Democratic Chairman Chris Redfern said at a press conference.

Meanwhile, GOP state chairman Kevin DeWine fired back in a press release, noting that since Democrat Ted Strickland became governor in 2007 that Ohio has lost about 300,000 jobs.

“The only Ohioan who deserves to lose a job in this economy is the guy who promised to turn it around and failed miserably,” DeWine said in the press release.

Kasich invited Ohioans to watch his announcement in Westerville live on his campaign Web site about 5:30 p.m. on www.KasichforOhio.com.

Strickland may not have raised taxes - YET. He’s only raised every possible fee there is in the State of Ohio. Plus, adding late fees for being late getting things like your license plates or your driver’s license. My belief is the tax raising comes IF he is elected to a 2nd term. He won’t be able to be elected to a 3rd term, and will leave the next Gov a bigger mess than what there already is. Afterall, how is he going to fund this sorriest excuse for an education plan??

The right wing wing nuts will never admit their economic policies are terrible failures since Hoover, Nixon, Reagan and the two Bushs and Gov Taft. Kasich is just another Repub with light weight ideology with no substance and an enemy of the middle class that worships at the alter of the corporations profits no matter how many american jobs they ship over to China and India. Has no credibility, like Portman illegaly campaigning at the Dayton VA with his campagin manager and says he wasn’t campaigning. Will give lip service to Veterans then reduce funding. Kasich and Portman are nobody to believe in.

I’ve been keeping an eye on John Kasich for a while and I like what I see. Here is a candidate that actually has Ohio’s best interests at heart. I’d be excited to have him as our next governor.

Governor Strickland did not balance the budget this year. The Republicans did it for him.

It is a joke for Democrats to bring up Lehman. What does that have to do with him. Lets talk about how he balanced the federal budget and cut spending while as 18 year congressman. Let’s talk about how Strickland has done nothing for this state. Ran without these promises and hasn’t delivered on anything. One term Ted, you are a nice man but your time is up. Ohio can not afford you in these difficult times. We need jobs!

DemTim, and had he kept it open and in doing so ran a deficit you’d be all over him for “spending like a mad man”. People cry when government spends and cry louder when they don’t spend on the things they want them to. Governor Strickland inherited a budget mess from Bob Taft and has done his best to balance the budget without raising taxes

Agree with BigJack about voting for someone as oppose voting against the lease desirable. Can’t handle another 4 w/Strickland. He has my vote.

If people like Ted Strickland and Dayton’s Mayor Rhine McLin get elected again, you can turn the lights off and close up, we are “through”.

I have watched you on Fox News and agree with most of what you believe and stand for. You will have my vote. Bye bye Strickland.

John is by far the best gubenatorial candidate Ohio has had since I’ve lived here (1995). It’s going to be nice to actually vote FOR a candidate instead of simply against a worse one.

lol an investment banker from Lehman Brothers? Are these people serious?? First he tears apart the American financial system, and now that his stock options are worthless he wants to run for Govenor? Come on guys, put someone “Of the people, for the people, by the people” in. Not another Wall Street Fat Cat!

Gee hopefully he brings some of that great insight that he gave Lehman Brothers. I’m guessing that Governor Strickland has now been assured of a second term
