Poll: Jimmy Carter best ex-president
Voters rank Democrat Jimmy Carter, whose four years in the White House were troubled and sometimes tumultuous, as the living ex-president who’s done the best job since leaving the White House, according to a national Rasmussen Reports poll released on Friday, Aug. 14.
Carter, who carried Ohio in 1976 to help win the White House but lost the state in 1980 when voter sent him back to Georgia, ranked first among the four living ex-presidents according to nearly one in three voters - 32 percent.
Democrat Bill Clinton finished second with 29 percent, followed by Republican George H.W. Bush, who got 22 percent.
Republican George W. Bush finished last with just 9 percent support.
Carter won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.
Here’s a chance to get in on the voting.
The survey was taken on Sunday, Aug. 9 and Monday, Aug. 10 with 1,000 likely voters and had a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percent.

Was tempted to vote for George W since he makes a much better ex-president than president. It’s a tough call between Carter and HW Bush, they’ve both shown a lot of dignity since leaving office.By I love this stuff

To those who can’t read, the question was “living president who has done the best job since leaving the White House.I see the same crowd of haters has arrived at this post. I think there’s a town hall meeting in Dayton this evening that you can attend to shout down anyone who has a question.By I love this stuff

It’s a shame that Republicans still will not stop bashing an 86-year-old ex-president more than a quarter century after he left office.By I Lived It

The results of this poll are incredible. Being a great ex-president means keeping your mouth shout about your successors to office. Carter has been in a complete failure in this regard.By BOW TIE

Now, if they would take the same poll but include ALL presidents, Baaraack would win in a landslide—-and he is only in the 8th month of his presidential office holding! This great country will not be able to survive if he continues to serve out his term! God forbid that he serve out his tour! Heaven help us!By BOW TIE

This poll, if really a poll, goes proves the point that you can slant a poll to “show anything you want.” Carter was our worst president in modern history, maybe all-time worst, and he has NOT gotten any better since he left office! He should just go back to the peanut ranch and stay there. He has absolutely NO BUSINESS making any comments or statements- he embarrassment for all of us!By Hulk

I agree with Jon’s comment made at 1:53 PM on August 14th. Unlike W, Carter was a true Christian. And that, in my opinion, is why he is regarded as one of our least effective presidents. Being a strong president requires some combination of ruthlessness and unscrupulousness. Carter doesn’t have that in his heart.By Tom

Jimmy Carter would have been the best ex-president had he left office in 1977. As it is, I’d vote for a dead ex-president first.By TRS

Ah, this is the same Jimmy who certified Hugo Chavez’s elections as honest and fair? Absolutely the worst President in my lifetime, his Habitat work was good but his interference in foreign policy among other things reflects badly on him.By Jeff

I would have voted for Carter until he got back into politics in recent years. His humanitarian work cannot be denied, but insertion into Middle East politics in recent years tarnishes his legacy. Clinton and Bush41 at least put on a good display for tsunami relief. W hasn’t been out of office long enough to judge.By Pete

JC wasn’t worth a darn as POTUS or as an ex-POTUS. SO what he’s done some diplomatic work for the Democrats when they’re in office. Never done squat while the GOP’s held office. He’s as useless as BO & Slick Willie combined. SPIN SPIN SPIN SPIN SPIN!By Really?

Best LIVING ex-president, not “BEST EX-PRESIDENT” as the headline states. Hmm, attempting to spin the story???By Jon

Say what you want about Carter’s presidency, but he was a true christian and treated his presidency in such a manner. Since he left office he has been the utmost humanitarian.By Democrat

The Mariel Boatlift brought criminals and psychopaths to the shores of Florida. Carter welcomed and encouraged them with open arms. If you weren’t there in the aftermath you can’t make an informed opinion about it. That one act transformed the demographics of paradise into the 3rd world barrio that it is today. I voted for him and I regret it. He never put Americans first - his misplaced “compassion” only lowered the standard of living of Floridians and created a crime-ridden narco traffickers utopia.By American Made

Well, I was too young to remember anything about Carter except that he liked peanuts and there was a hostage situation that we all hung flags from the newspaper in our windows over. LOL. But by far - George W. is the worst in my lifetime.By oenaphile
