Brunner must decide Husted residency within 7 days

The Ohio Supreme Court is ordering Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner to decide on state Sen. Jon Husted’s residency within seven days.

Husted filed asked the court on Friday, Sept. 11, to order Brunner to break the tie vote at the Montgomery County Board of Elections.

Husted, a Republican who is running for Secretary of State, owns a house in Kettering but his wife and child live suburban Columbus. State lawmakers are required to live in their districts and voters are required to live where they vote.

The board of elections deadlocked 2-2 twice on a complaint that Husted doesn’t really live in Kettering. By law, the secretary of state is the tie-breaking vote on boards of elections.

Husted complained that Brunner has taken too long to decide the matter. The Ohio Supreme Court unanimously granted Husted’s request for a court order compelling Brunner to make a decision.

This might take a while, Brunner doesn’t like making decisions, especially one that might hold her accountable, better check with ACORN.

when the legislature is not in session, he has no need to stay in Columbus. Period. And what’s so wrong with him commuting an hour to work? Lots of people do it every day.

This man is a coward and he is blatantly trying to cross the law. how is he even and senator. And yes we voted for him but have you ever heard of mistakes.

Given that his utility bills show very little activity, Jon doesn’t live in Kettering unless he shivers in the dark. Jon is a beady-eyed vulgarian who is only looking out for his next job. He cares about himself and cares little about the people he represents.

Seven days! Wow. Nothing moves that fast in Court. Jennifer Brunner must have really taxed their patience. Hopefully, the voters can finally get a decision, rather than more Brunner campaigning at the State’s expense.

so the dude sleeps at his wife’s house (who he married after the election I think) rather then spend the night at a holiday inn or spend two hours a day driving back and forth to and from Columbus? Spend the night with the wife, sleep in a holiday inn, drive two hours (or more) a day. you make the call.

It’s all politics. He could live in Cambodia, and it still wouldn’t be unanimous. Same thing in Washington D.C. - people voting according to the Party. Democrats and Republicans are the root of all evil.

What would be interesting is if the board of elections members had to provide a reason for their vote. They would seem so petty and childish when they simply put down ‘because he’s a republican’.

Seems to me that residency should be an open-and-shut case, aided by a liberal amount of common sense. If there’s a question if you live in a certain place, then you’re probably actually not living in that place. To me, the available evidence strongly suggests that Husted doesn’t live in Kettering.

Can we just make a decision here and move on!? I don’t care the outcome at this point, just stop wasting taxpayers money on it! If you cannot determine whether someone resides or does not reside at a home, then you may not be fit to serve the people in a public office. Somewhat pregnant? Somewhat a resident?

Its pretty obvious that Husted does not live in Kettering. Brunner is negligent in her duties by taking this fricken long to make a decision.

Sounds simple to me. Live in Kettering and commute to Columbus.
