1,097 state jobs gone
The ranks of state employees thinned by nearly 1,100 workers in the wake of budget cuts that began in the last two months, a new report shows.
The state of Ohio now employs 58,889 workers, down from 59,986 in mid-July. The Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections — the largest employer within state government with 15,461 workers — lost 138 people in the last two months.
House Finance Chairman Vernon Sykes, D-Akron, predicted in July that 2,000 to 3,000 state employees would lose their jobs due to state budget cuts.

How about the 500,000 dollars or so wasted on HB 176 that just passed the House if it gets passed by the Senate and signed by the Governor. That would give 10, probably more people back their jobs. They cut jobs but increase spending on idiotic things such as this. Stay out of the buisnes’s buisness and perhaps they will quit moving out of state to where they do stay out!!By Doesn't figure

To Fed-Up: The state has ALREADY cut the business tax. Ohio now ranks in the top 20 for lowest state business taxes. Now because of the recession they are not collecting enough money to pay for the services we need. We can’t cut our way to success, we need to grow.By Child Welfare Worker

To Give Me a Break: Sorry, I did not make it clear that the hospital report was not talking about child deaths from swimming, riding bikes. This report was specifically about child deaths caused by adults. What is the basis for your vast knowledge of the child welfare system?By give me break

To Child Welfare Worker: First off Police to very little preventing of crimes, its not like they Police go to some crackheads door and remind them not to kill their child tonight. Also, deaths of children are always higher in the Summer Months, due to increased activity outdoors, example swimming, atv’s, riding bicycles, etc… I really doubt a few police officer cuts had anything to do with children dying.By Child welfare worker

Children’s Medical Center in Columbus reported that child deaths have doubled in recent months. I believe this is partially due to the fact that some of the people who help protect children-law enforcement and Children’s Services (some are State Agencies)- have had cuts in staff. How many more children have to die before they realize that this is not the place to cut?By Fed-Up

Since our state government doesn’t find 10%+ unemployment an urgent problem to address with lower business taxes and less regulation, why shouldn’t the budget require a 10+% reduction in the workforce? We will never tax ourselves into prosperity!
