ProgressOhio opposes Issue 3 casino plan

ProgressOhio, a Columbus-based liberal advocacy group, announced on Thursday, Sept. 24 that it will oppose Issue 3 on the Nov. 3 ballot, the plan that would allow casinos in Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati and Toledo.

“This decision did not come lightly as we have friends on both sides of this issue,” Brian Rothenberg, executive director of ProgressOhio, said in a press release.

“But ultimately we have deep concerns about this specific proposal and the overall impact it stamps into Ohio’s Constitution.”

The release said the group opposed the issue for a number of reasons, including gambling’s “disparate impact on already burdened low income households.”

Apparently Progress Ohio wasn’t given enough say into how many Union jobs there will be….The only jobs they care about are union jobs.

Thgere sure are a lot of people swallowing the BS given by Teddy and his imorral group. Casinos are a down hill slide not progress. They actually costs jobs besieds feeding off the poor and giving it to the crooked like organized crime. To bad people are so blind and gullable to no tsee the Plain truth!! Whore houses will be next to be licensed and taxed. To bad these the idiots that want this do not read the news of other states coughing up money to support the casinos in times like these, Maybe the crooked politicians that voted for this are getting under the table money or promise of a kick back to their campaign funds or retirement fund!!

What a joke! They may be called “ProgressOhio” but they want nothing to do with initiatives that might actually bring progress TO Ohio. We NEED these casinos. Not only will they bring much-needed money and jobs into the state, but they provide our cities with hope for the future. They give our cities a shot that people in the suburbs might actually make the trip downtown and those from out of state a reason to visit Ohio. With more people and tourism, businesses downtown can grow and new businesses can open up. The casino plan is the only hope for PROGRESS on our horizon. If you really want to see a positive future for Ohio, vote YES on casinos!

Issue 3 is not about whether or not there should be gambling in Ohio. It’s about whether ONE corporation should have a special spot in the state constitution giving them a monopoly. And keep in mind that if this passes as a statewide ballot issue, the only thing that can take away that monopoly, or even one tiny detail of that monopoly, is ANOTHER statewide ballot initiative. If you’re pro- free market, if you’re a capitalist, you should vote NO on issue 3.

Won’t these businesses and those businesses that seem to pop up around the casino’s,i.e. hotels, restaurants, etc. offer the opportunity for jobs for Ohioans? And won’t those paychecks to any and all of the employees of the casino’s no matter where they are from be subject to state and local taxes? I understand all of the thoughts about the inability of those prone to the sins of gambling being unable to control themselves due to the Casino now being “right down the street.” Wake up…….., what happens in Vegas started happening in lots of other places years ago. Someone wants to do something that hasn’t been the norm around here since time began is going to find that opportunity.

LOL.1-12 schools will only see a small amount as compared to colleges. That what wrong in this state. At least we have better odds at the casino’s than ohio lottery where your odds are greatly improved if you live in northern ohio.Don’t believe me,check out their web site.90% of the winners live in northern ohio.At least at a casino the odds are better than Ohio Rolling cash 5 or the ohio lotto and you won’t be ripped off like you are playing the ohio lottery.I’m just wondering what the state excused will be when the lottery crashes after casino’s are here,as why would anyone in southern ohio play ohio lottery.

Who cares what their opinion is. Liberal groups don’t like businesses, they only like government. Liberal groups don’t care if you have a job just that you vote for the government to take care of you.

What a delemma. l would definitly like to see all that money that is being given to lnd., Penn, etc., coming to Ohio. But l have questions no one seems to want to answer. #1 ls it true that cantractors from out of this country have been given the job of building these casinos ? #2 What percentage of the profit will be given to Ohio for schools, streets, etc. #3 What percentage of the profit will actually go for schools and roads or will this actually go the the state of Ohio and a small percentage forwarded to Schools, Etc. #4 Does anyone KNOW for sure what lndiana’s schools are getting ?
