Anti Issue 2 campaign to start radio ads
The anti Issue 2 campaign is an underdog, scraping together just $6,300 compared with the $4 million raised by those in favor of the constitutional amendment, and is beginning its modest media campaign this week.
Food and Water Watch will begin running a 30-second radio ad across the state, that urges Ohioans to vote no on Issue 2, which the group says will give corporate agri-business license to contaminate food with poor animal housing practices and bankrupt family farms.
Meanwhile, Ohioans for Livestock Care raised $4 million, including $1.2 million from out-of-state agricultural interests, and has already been on the TV airwaves with polished ads.
If the issue passes, Ohio would create a 13-member Livestock Care Standards Board to set rules for animal housing and care.

It’s sad to see the farmers sell out on scare tactics when this can easily be handled by the Ohio ORC and the attorney general. To hear the Issue 2 town hall forum at OSU go here: http://www.ohiolibertycouncil.com/?p=882

Fox guarding the hen house? Don’t you people read the explaination of the Issue? Standards and Rules developed by the Board will be subject to the authority of the General Assembly. What this means is that the board can’t set all the rules without oversight by the legislative process.

PETA wants a no vote. That in itself is all I need to know. I will vote yes on this issue for sure.

Vote no on Issue 2. If a farmer doesn’t employ ‘factory farming’ techniques, there is no worry. what happened in california is that the Governor signed a law bannig battery cages and gestation crates, a victory foor farmed animals.

First I must say get educated! I am a local farmer, and I have produced not only livestock but cash crops since I took over the family farm several years ago. Issue 2 IS NOT I repeat IS NOT put forth on the ballot by “factory” farmers it was put on the ballot by the little guys in the business. Issue 2 is out to protect us from outside groups (like the HSUS) that want nothing more than to ban food animal food production in Ohio. When I use the term ban I mean make the means of producing difficult and down right impossible. It has already happened in California. Educate yourself on this issue, Issue 2 is for your safety and the safety of your food. Issue 2 is also strongly supported by the Ohio Beef Council, Ohio Pork Producers, Poultry Producers just to name a few.

intheknow is right on this. Issue 2 is nothing more than large corporate agribusiness disguising themselves as “local, family farmers”. You ask the real local family farmers their take on this issue and you’ll be surprised at how they have been misrepresented by the Weaver Eggs, Tyson chickens and Con Agra’s of the world. There is no better analogy than the fox and hen house for this issue.

For tolerating Others, again, do the research, Issue 2 was shoved onto the ballot BY the factory farms. They will BE the majority of the individuals picked for the Standard Board and will set the rules to their advantage, NOT the animals

Wouldn’t we want to regulate anything that makes factory farming destructive and inhumane? Without regulation, it will continue to be destructive and inhumane…

Say NO TO ISSUE 2. Please do the research. This ‘Board’ is like the Fox guarding the Hen House. A no vote makes destructive and inhumane factory farming more regulated. A cleaner food source is the goal, not over-crowded, disease ridden, pumped full of hormones, factory farmed animals. Don’t be fooled.
