National poll: Voters disapprove of Dems’ health care plan
Efforts by President Barack Obama and congressional Democrats to overhaul the nation’s health care system got a thumbs down from voters across the country in a Quinnipiac University Poll released on Thursday, Nov. 19.
In the poll, 51 percent of voters disapproved the Democratic-backed health care overhaul passed by the U.S. House of Representatives, 35 percent approved and 14 percent didn’t know or had no answer.
Also, 53 percent disapproved of Obama’s handling of health care, while 41 percent disapproved and 6 percent didn’t know or were had no answer..
This was slightly better for Obama than the results of a poll released last week for Ohio in which 57 percent of voters disapproved and 36 percent approved his handling of health care.
Release of the poll came a day after Senate Democratic leaders released their version of a plan to overhaul health care.
There was a bright spot for Obama in the poll. Nearly three quarters of voters - 74 percent - like Obama as a person, but just 47 percent like most of his policies.
“Most Americans like President Barack Obama and might like to have a beer with him,” Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac Polling Institute, said in a press release.
“But millions of voters who sided with him last November because they thought he would bring change to Washington aren’t crazy about the kind of change he is trying to bring.”
The poll was taken Nov. 9 - Monday, Nov. 16 with 2,518 registered voters nationally and had a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.

Well, I suspect this Obama envy will be ongoing well into when President Obama wins in 2012.

Democrats are the party of “takers”. Their constituents are generally speaking - life’s loosers. Usually a Democrat is underemployed, unemployed, uneducated or undereducated, they smoke, drink have usually been divorced and have the general attitude that they are “owed” something or are entitled to something for nothing. they feel that it is okay for other folks to pay there way thru life. Most hide in unions which protect the inept or they are fullfilling a fantasy of having control and power in littl miserable lifes in a position as a government employee. Now comes Barry Hussain Obama who says “don’t worry - you’re entitled to health care - its a human right”. Well Barry Hussin Obama - me and the majority of my countrymen and women have seen what you intend to ram down our throats so your “constituents” can have the free health care you promised them. One question for Barry - If all the normal, god fearing, hard working, TAX PAYING, Americans decided not to pay their taxes - where would you get your money to pay for your boondoggle giveaway. INSURRECTION IS COMING BARRY! We will take back our country from the people who have taken it from us!!

This isn’t about health care, it’s about social control. It would be a lot more economical to write the underinsured a check and be done with it. Everything else is a bunch of malarkey by the Democrats.

Stacy, I’m not sure you actually read the poll. The public option portion of the bill got a 57% favorable to 35% disapprove result. That’s both compelling and a mandate - at lease as far a poll goes.

So not only is there NOT a mandate, there is no compelling acceptance of the proposed solution.

No surprise that the numbers vary so widely. I’m guessing the truth is somewhere in the middle. One thing is certain, our country is circling the drain. I’m just watching to see if our president signs the 7 year peace treaty that will identify him as the anti-christ.

The greatest president in the history of America???? What excatly has he done? Our soldiers are at war and he can’t decide IF we need to support them! Our economy is going from bad to really really bad, but of course he says that is not his fault! His administration is talking about ALL the jobs that he has saved / produced so far with the stimulas, but than when the numbers are truly looked at…FALSE! Oh my…no I mean, that was simply a bad case of addition. The greatest president should just shut up and sit down. We don’t want the health care that he seems to be SOOOO proud of! If we get this health care, how do you think we are going to pay for it? And, if the new plan is SOOOO WONDERFUL than the government officals INCLUDING the House and Senate and President SHOULD be on this plan as well.

I personally would prefer the Gov’t take over healthcare. they do an incredibly admirable job with the USPS, Medicare/Medicaid, Soc Sec, Amtrak, cash for clunkers, etc. i like Gov’t giveaway programs that the evil rich have to pay for. all Gov’t programs are run efficiently with very little if any waste and are supremely in the American people’s interests, not for a politicians need for votes, power or PAC contributions.

My health insurance just lapsed, I just can’t afford it. My new plan if I get sick is to kill myself quickly, so my family doesn’t get dragged down too. So go pleasure yourself with your polls, its too late anyway.

The loyal (and needy/greedy) Dems all have a stiff neck from looking to the heavens waiting for the pie in the sky that Little Jimmy Carter promised them. Mmmmmm, seems that they’re getting a bit impatient.

I’ll bet the leftist on here weren’t bashing polls when they force-fed the greatest affirmative action program ever on us: The Obamantion. No, last fall these same posters were ecstatic over their boy getting great poll ratings. Hypocrites.

And how many of those polled do you think could probably give a coherent and accurate summary of the top level items which are actually contained within the bill? I would venture to guess the answer is probaby, “Not very many”. Polls often serve as little more than reflections of the emotional connection or disconnect that people feel to how the narrative on an issue has been framed within the media to which they are exposed. Those who are purported to be against health care will trumpet a headline like the one on this story as indicative of some larger view within the country. Those with opposing opinions will take issue with how the poll was conducted, how the questions were posed or the actual make-up of the polling sample. It is quite curious that when asked about specific proposals contained within the health care bill, like the public option, people support it overwhelmingly. But that seems to often get downplayed. Headlines such as the one on this story serve only to expose either the professional and intellectual laziness of the editors here or their political prejudices. It certainly does not produce the benefit of keeping anyone reliably informed.

This poll is so missleading that it isnt even funny because we all know that President Obama will make this reform pass for the good of all Americans. If you talk to your fellow Dayton citizens you will find that almost everybody is for in support of this legslation; this poll is not just untrue it is compleet FRAUD!

Question 19 of the poll: Do you support or oppose giving people the option of being covered by a government health insurance plan that would compete with private plans? The answer??? Support it-57%, Don’t support it-35%……This is the crux of the health care plan…..So why doesn’t the headline say, “Overwhelming majority of those polled support a Government sponsored plan to compete with private insurance”??? Why, indeed?

We must remember this next election time for Senators & Reps. Then in next presidential election let’s not believe all the rhetoric. Be wary of so many promises. Usually few can be kept and they are not the ones we need nor want.

The pendulum has made a huge swing to the left. So much for a division of powers. The folks all voted for change so sit back and get ready. People bought all of the left wing media bias and presto bingo – chango. Will this government run healthcare pay for Vaseline? I sure hope so as the democrates are starting to ram it down our you know whats. Even if they have to use reconciliation.

Why, ol’ Harry Reid said the American people are clamoring for this! These polls don’t matter because they are going to ram this thing down our throats. The political class believe they know better than the people they serve. Couple things to remember - their numbers are beyond “fuzzy”. Congressional projections are traditionally underestimated, oftentimes by a good margin so anyone that believes this is deficit neutral would also by oceanfront property in Kansas. Add to that the computations are 10 years of revenue based on 6 years of the plan (doesn’t go into effect until 2013) - beyond that it really gets pricy. Finally they took out the 200B doctor fix to try and keep the cost under 1 Trillion.

At least we’re getting our money’s worth in school funding. Ohio must have the quickest speed readers on the face of the planet! At least if they were able to completely read all 2,000 pages of a bill released last evening and have a qualified opinion on it today. Unless of course, they based their opinion on something else -
