Rep. Turner to move residence to downtown Dayton

U.S. Rep. Mike Turner, R-Centerville, is moving to downtown Dayton from Centerville, Turner’s office announced in a press release on Tuesday, Dec. 1.

Turner will hold a media availability at 1:15 p.m. at the Schuster Center condominiums at Second and Main streets downtown, to announce his family will sell their Centerville home of seven years and move their residence to downtown Dayton, the release said.

Turner is a former Dayton mayor. The announcement follows a meeting that Turner held on Monday with Mayor-elect Gary Leitzell.

Turner is fortunate to be able to move back to Dayton after McLin lost. It would be great to afford to move away from districts that have morons like Boehner and Turner and move back when they are gone.

golfguy: Turner doesn’t play golf. If you are trying to make stuff up about the guy, at least try and sound plausible.

Golfguy: Seriously, just when I thought the comments at the DDN couldn’t go any lower, you show me again why no one should ever take a comment on these forums seriously. Throw your mud somewhere else.

Let’s see if now he’ll start voting in the House accordingly. Doubt it. Might as well live in Miami county.

Put a white boy in the Mayor’s office and he comes runnin’ back. Must have really disliked C.J’s little girl. Let’s how long it takes him to sell that Centerville house.

FYI Mike Turner graduated from Belmont. He was also behind RehabaRama - targeted renovation in the historic districts. He lived in Huffman District. His heart is in Dayton. This is great news. And I hope people who judge downtown based on the news coverage will actually venture downtown and see what the rest of us do. I’m old enough to remember how great downtown was, but I’m also young enough and engaged enough to participate in creating Dayton’s future. We are at a crossroads and have the opportunity to create the city of our dreams. As a friend says, there are three places you can be when the train leaves the station and one of them ain’t good. You can be on board, in the station cheering or on the tracks blocking progress.

Good luck for Mike Turner. Dayton is not the problem. It’s the people in it before job losses. I use to ride the bus everywhere growing up in east Dayton. Now they have cameras on the bus to make you feel safer. I wouldn’t live in Dayton again nor send my kids to Dayton Public Schools. I’d home school first.

Mr. Turner is motivated by politics and political gain only, there is a secret here that will show it’s face!

It’s great but don’t make more of it than it is - it’s simply a replay of Tony Hall. The Turner family has already moved to Washington. Lori and kids are there, kids attend school there. This residence maintains his representing the District, it’s a second home not their primary.

There’s a reason that McLin wanted a third term and that now Mike Turner is coming home to Dayton. Both know that Dayton is about to “take off” after a decade of infrastructure investment and reinvestment. Just look at the new Main Street corridor downtown; Tech Town; the new Riverscape pavilion; the refurbished Convention Center; and plans for renovating the Arcade and passenger train terminal. Meanwhile the Greene has nowhere to expand is already building over its parking lots. The future is downtown; the future is Dayton!

We live downtown. We are by no means “rich”. We love it. And we are very pleased to hear the Turners are moving downtown. What a smart choice. Mike and family, you are welcome for dinner anytime! Welcome home!

This just goes to show that many of you have irrational fears of downtown. Performance Place and Cooper Lofts are both high-priced downtown condo developments with MANY high income folks living there. Do you think they would live in downtown if it was as bad as some of you like to believe?

My wife and I go into downtown Dayton every day. It is safe in town. If all you see is thugs, then I think you watch too much tv. This is he first positive move I have seen from Mr. Turner. He should be encouraged.

How can anyone find anything bad in this story? Some of the responses are shameful, a perversion of the spirit of the season. Why “run down” every good thing that happens in order to express your fears and negativity? How about a sense of community, at least during the holiday season?

Im just glad that the city of Dayton has new leadership. I have seen cities like Dayton turn around completely in just a couple of years under the right leadership. Dayton has a new lease on life now that Rhine is going out.

When he comes to Dayton to live will that bring jobs? No. Will the shootings on the west side slow? No. Will the tax base grow? Yes. Mike will pay income taxes to the City of Dayton. What a publicity scam this is. Dayton is dieing and the fleas and ticks will have to move on when the host passes.

I went to Patterson Co-op Vocational HS back in the 70’s, and I loved going to the Arcade (McCrory’s). But I’m afraid to go downtown now. I tried to go to a concert a couple of years ago and thugs were everywhere. It’s too scary and I don’t go downtown anymore.

We need to lower taxes on companies so they will start hiring people again. Apparently, this CHANGE of Obama’s doesn’t work. We need to prosecute the people that created those fake districts and the “stimulus” money for new jobs in districts that didn’t exist. Isn’t falsification of gov’t documents worthy of prosecution? Who’s going after where the money “really” went?

Debbie—the gov’t doesn’t care about the poor people. I feel so sorry for the people who won’t be able to get their unemployment benefits they are entitled to because they messed up on a date. Shame on these people. This is change you can’t count on!

I am old enough to remember how great Downtown Dayton was. Movie theaters, burlesque, great eating places, shopping. Anything you wanted was downtown. Transportation was easy and they all traveled in and out of downtown. Too bad when urban blight and suburban flight took away the olde downtown. It all changed, but the memories linger. Good luck, Mike.

This news has me giddy as all get out. It is so great to see high profile, well respected, well to do folks, moving to downtown Dayton. Why wouldn’t one want to live in downtown, we have a ball park, performing arts center, convention center, art galleries, restaurants, which equates lots to do. It really is great being in downtown. Last Sunday my husband and I went downtown to sing Christmas Carols and to admire our beautiful city. Tis a privlige to live in Dayton.

There goes the neighborhood. This makes Gary look like a figurehead. Guess who’s running Dayton now. Oh well, Gary you can make this up to us all by inviting the Rolling Stones to play Dayton like you said you would. We would settle for The Who. I really like that song they do “Won’t get fooled again”. I knew this was too good to be true.

LMNT, its 6,500 tax credit for someone not buying their first home. And their are income requirments that i’m sure mike exceeds. Regardless, you really think that had anything to do with the move?

Lisa, I’m not sure what you are trying to say. Your grammar and sentence structure do not make any sense. CHS is an excellent high school and is one of the best in the region. Regardless, good luck to Rep. Turner’s move back to Downtown. I’m glad McLin is out of office, and hopeful for Dayton’s new leadership.

Maybe his family should go to see that maybe its better down in Dayton, because CHS is not for the kids I know that for a fact! Hope you have better luck in Dayton then Centerville.

I think its a great move by Mike, especially since his kids are grown. The man cares about Dayton and it shows. To “creating image”: Wright Patt is the largest employer of his constituents. Why wouldn’t he ensure they stay here? There are plenty of people looking to slash the defense budget, and Wright Patt is especially vulnerable. God knows if it were up to Rhine, they’d be gone as well…
