Strickland campaign hires communications chief

Lis Smith hasn’t been to Duck Run yet but says “I look forward to making the trip there.”

Smith, 27, is the new communications director for Gov. Ted Strickland’s re-election campaign.

She’s a graduate of Dartmouth College and comes from Bronxville, near New York City, a different kind of place than Strickland’s hometown of Duck Run in Scioto County.

Smith has been to Toledo where she worked in 2004 for Democrat John Edwards’ presidential campaign.

Last year she worked for two losing causes - Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine’s re-election campaign in New Jersey and earlier for Terry McAuliffe’s unsuccessful effort to be the Democratic candidate for governor in Virginia.

She was on the winning side in 2006 when she worked for the successful U.S. Senate campaign of Democrat Claire McCaskill in Missouri.

Strickland is being challenged by Republican John Kasich, a former U.S. House member from suburban Columbus.

Mr. Voter, the state was not in debt when Governor Strickland took over. The budget was balanced and revenue was coming in, enough that the state budget passed unanimously through both houses of the General Assembly. The budget crisis hit in 2008, two years into the Strickland Administration. Sorry for the inconevience of your facts. By the way, unemployment stood at 5% in 2006 when Governor Strickland took over, and his turn around Ohio plan has given us 10% unemployment. Just the facts.

Wow! How quickly people forget. The state was in unbelievable debt from the previous administration when Strickland took office. Now he’s getting blamed? People’s memories never cease to amaze me. Is this such a D vs. R rivalry that all rational thought is lost?

Strickland is going to need a lot more than that. I think Strickland is a good man, just unable to deal with the situation.

Unemployment in Ohio has been increasing every year for 13 straight years. The job killers in Ohio have been Taft and Boehner…not Strickland. Ask Congressman Boehner why he votes for more and extended work visa’s for non-US citizens? Also ask Boehner what he has done for Ohioans while Health Insurance premiums have been increasing at a rate of 25% a year? This is what is killing jobs!

Earth to communicator: tell Strickland we don’t want him anymore. We don’t want his tax hikes and we don’t want his health care reform bill. Tell Strickland to take a hike and not come back.

My personal belief is there isn’t anything she could do to change my mind about voting for him.

Ms.Smith will have a tough time demonstrating to me why I’d want to continue with a Strickland administration which has: sat on it’s hands while 10,000’s jobs have left this state due to the unfavorable business climate, effectively stole a scheduled tax cute from indivduals so that government can stay at it’s already bloated levels, and selected politcal hacks for Departmental leaders during his term that should have been both a personal & professional embarassment.Send him back to Portsmouth.
