With Tea Party backing, Morgan launches state auditor campaign

With backing from the anti-establishment Tea Party movement, state Rep. Seth Morgan, R-Huber Heights, on Thursday, Jan., 21, launched his campaign for state auditor in Columbus at the Statehouse.

A rally was scheduled for Thursday afternoon at Huber Heights City Hall where Morgan served on city council.

Morgan, a certified public accountant, said he has the credentials and qualifications to be “the ultimate financial watchdog for the people of Ohio.” His wife Debra was at his side and his parents, Terry and Debra, were in the audience.

Rob Scott, president and founder of the Dayton Tea Party, introduced Morgan and called him a “man of principle.”

The Ohio Republican Party has not endorsed an auditor candidate.

John McClelland, state party spokesman, said Morgan “is one of several candidates under consideration.”

Hamilton County Commissioner David Pepper is the Democratic candidate.

Morgan decided to enter the race after incumbent Republican Auditor Mary Taylor last week became GOP gubernatorial candidate John Kasich’s lieutenant governor running mate.

Google the following: use of public building for political rally. You will find many cases that were identified as conflict of interest.

It was not a Tea Party event, it was a rally, no fund raising. As for qualifications, our current State Auditor, Mary Taylor was Ohio’s “1st” certified CPA. It’s mind blowing that the 1st time in Ohio’s history, we have a certified CPA! It’s unreal! Ohio do you know what your current State Auditor, Mary Taylor’s record show? Here’s just a few: 1.Developed the comprehensive Fraud Reporting System that allows Ohioans to blow the whistle on government fraud and corruption. 2.Identified $25.7 million in government fraud and misspending 3.Reported more than $7.5 million in Medicaid abuse We expect our Attorney General to be an attorney, our Police Cheif’s to be police, our Coroner to be a doctor-why would Ohio not expect the same qualifications for State Auditor-certified CPA as our “watch dog” for our taxes? Seth Morgan is the best qualified candidate for the job because he is a certified CPA. Candidate Pepper does not have a CPA under his belt.

Seth Morgan is not a City Councilman. He is State Representative for the 36th District of Ohio. Please get your facts right before making accusations of impropriety.

Rob Scott may have personally endorsed Rep. Morgan’s candidacy by introducing him, but the Dayton Tea Party organization does NOT endorse candidates. That may seem like a contradictory matter, but it is important for people to understand that the Dayton Tea Party cannot endorse candidates; it would be illegal. People within the organization may PERSONALLY endorse candidates. I personally endorse Rep. Morgan’s candidacy as well.

For anyone with the energy to pursue it, it is fairly safe to say that a conflict of interest situation has developed in Huber Heights with this candidate. Sounds to me like a City Councilman used his political influence and position to garner the use of a public building for his personal and political stage. Or, did I miss something? State Ethics people?

Let me put it another way to help Huber Heights officials. I would hope they would have similar code. Solicitation of political contributions on public property prohibited. No municipal official, employee or appointee may solicit, commit to pay or receive payment of or a commitment to pay any contribution for any candidate, elected official or political organization while in or on the property of the municipality or utilizing the property of the municipality.

A conflict of interest may arise between the business of political fund-raising and the business of government in the town hall and other government-owned premises which may cause a distraction from the people’s business. The most appropriate method to prevent this conflict and to ensure the integrity of government decisions is to prohibit political fund-raising on or by the use of public property. Just some advice for the City of Huber Heights administration and council to consider.

Where else could Sneaky Seth hold a rally but at city hall with his cronies. Before championing his cause, check his background…then look at David Pepper’s. What a contrast! Pepper IS qualified.

Interesting that some one would toss out the red herring that the Left promotes hate. The Right and far right has been promoting hate since there was hate. And that my friend is a very long time to be in that business. Can we get back to the real issue here of misusing the HH government offices to promote one party? That is the real problem!

Tea party is not anti-establishment and if you were actually well informed you would know that they are not part of the republican party. Apparently Massachusetts taught you nothing. So much hate on the side of the left. Denial of their own shortcomings and reflect them onto others. Sorry progressives, this is America and we like America. We have no desire to become European you know the continent we fled. Americans like freedom, they like to live free, and they really don’t like the government controlling their lives. If you want to live like a European than America is not for you.

HH or Moraine North ahs a long history of errors like this. With the Tea Baggers dropping in it isn’t going to get any better. The infighting and lack of understanding the law is one reason I left HH in the late 70’s. Glad I did!

So, anti-establishment money is paying for someone in the establishment to move up in the ranks of the establishment? This is exactly why I don’t understand the teabaggers…if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em?

I don’t know that the “tea party movement” can be considered “anti-establishment.” What started out as a grassroots, essentially libertarian movement has been hijacked by rank and file Republicans and Hannity types.

Is it kosher to hold a campaign rally at city hall? I’m a HH resident and I don’t approve of using our city hall as a venue for any party event, not to mention one sponsored by a tea party.
