Ohio Education Association announces endorsements

The Ohio Education Association Fund for Children and Public Education (OEA-FCPE) has endorsed Democrats in all statewide administrative races- except attorney general.

Also, the educators’ union declined to make an endorsement in the Democratic U.S. Senate primary between Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher and Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner.

The endorsements from the teachers’ union, announced on Thursday, Feb. 11:

Governor- Ted Strickland

Secretary of State - Maryellen O’Shaughnessy

Treasurer - Kevin Boyce

Auditor - David Pepper

“Our FCPE state council will be screening in the attorney general race after the May primary date,” Michele Prater, spokeswoman for the group, said in an e-mail.

Democratic incumbent Attorney General Richard Cordray is seeking re-election. Former U.S. Sen. Mike DeWine of Cedarville and Hardin County attorney Steve Christopher are seeking the GOP nomination for AG.

The educators’ group also plans to screen candidate for the U.S. Senate and Ohio Supreme Court after the primary, a press release said.

Wow! Now I am a loser and an idiot because I choose to teach children for a living. I don’t even like Strickland. Most teachers are smart, hard working people looking to do a little bit of good in the world. Who educated you?

Springfield City School teachers are required to be members of the OEA union - not joining is not an option. It is frustrating to know my husband’s dues are use to help support candidates we do not agree with.

I am a teacher and I resent my union using my union dues for these purposes. They do not ask the teachers who they would like to endorse. Majority of teachers that I know will not be voting for Strickland and his unrealistic ideas about education without funding!!!

I think the OEA-FCPE should endorse Raleigh (Carpet Hat) Trammell as their Treasure, sense the teachers union’s and Raleigh are in the same business of cheating the taxpayers out of their money. Oh yea, He’s a Democrat also (birds of a feather flock together)

Another reason to hate unions…they always support democrats no matter how worthless they are. And these folks are educating are children. No wownder towns like Springfield are below all standards with new schools and you leave the same morans running them.

The reason the OEA didn’t pick someone for Attorney General is there is no difference between Cordray and DeWine. They are both great liberals. The OEA sees potential value in DeWine being on their side.

Typical of a union to support Democrats - it helps insure that progressive ideology that our children learn in school. Voters with good sense need to vote against these people!

I am a teacher and a member of OEA/DEA but I wouldn’t vote for any of those endorsed candidates because the OEA does have a “progressive” agenda and uses that filter to pick their candidates. In fact, I use their endorsements to guide who I won’t vote for. And why would a Republican go to a “screening” for the candidates when it is already redetermined who OEA will pick. It is a waste of the candidate’s time?

Sorry about the repetition. The message kept coming back that the link wasn’t connecting.

Surprise! Surprise! Surprise. Now we know where the teachers send their money. These people run education and that is the reason our taxes keep going up and up. I’m so glad these stats have been revealed. Now check what they endorse at their conventions every year. Progressives all the way.

Of course the GOP candidates wouldn’t even attend the screening. Don’t know why they are so scared of a few lousy teachers. Maybe they are scared of actually learning something about education.
