Ohio makes first cut for federal education money
Ohio made the cut as one of 16 states invited to Washington, D.C. later this month to compete for a share of $40 billion in education reform money offered by the Obama administration.
Forty states plus the District of Columbia applied for Race to the Top funding and were graded on their plans to improve teacher effectiveness, turn around failing schools, track data and set academic standards.
Ohio is asking for $409 million over four years. Only half of the state school districts opted to participate in the program, in part because the grant guidelines require policy changes.
“We’re obviously happy we’ll get an opportunity to go to Washington to make our pitch,” said Ohio Department of Education spokesman Scott Blake.
Federal authorities are expected to announce April 1 which states will win funding in the first round.

Actually communism is something that we all have to worry about, unless you too are one of the many supporters of centralized BIG government and believe that Americans are oppressed and the Constitution is a bad document, cause you do not believe in individual liberty or personal responsibility. If you believe in the collective than you are not worried about Communism. The rest of us are awake and are worried about the “transformation” of our country. We are aware that Obama - the Marxist socialist - has anti-American and communists advising him. We are aware that he has advisers that have spoken for us to look at the Communist China model. They believe that is a better model than the American Constitution. They also believe Mao was a great philosopher. We have the self-hating racist Black Caucus that swoons of Castro and thinks Castro is a humanitarian. We have Obama and his administration standing against Honduras who upheld their constitution and rule of law. Instead our Government supported the Zelaya who with Chavez’s help was trying to become the permanent leader of Honduras. When our President sides with dictators you bet you should worry about communism. Anybody that wants to belittle or discredit you and deny that we have an anti-American government right now, either has their head in the sand or they support communism and are deceiving you so that you will not notice you are being nudged into a dictatorship and America the free world will be gone. This is not being paranoid. These are documented facts about Obama and the people advising him and even people in Congress.

If investing in education is “communistic” the developed world is a very “communistic” place. Of course, in the real world and not squirrellygirl’s fevered imagination, communism died 20 years ago, and the rest of us are just trying to figure things out. These education grants may be a good idea or they may be a bad one, but either way that has nothing to do with “communism”. Learn a bit about Stalin and Mao before spouting off on communism. It was evil, now it’s gone, we’ve got our own problems but communism ain’t one of them.

More Obamamoney for something other than generating jobs, cutting taxes, or extending unemployment. Sounds communistic to want to destroy our economy by trying to overwhelm it by putting tax $ to this when people can’t find jobs. Prez Bam Bam didn’t learn about prioritization at Harvard apparently.
