Bill would permit drilling for oil, gas in state parks
Sen. Keith Faber, R-Celina, is trying again with legislation that would permit drilling for oil or gas in state parks.
Senate Bill 241 would grant the director of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources the authority to enter into leases for drilling of oil or gas on all state-owned land and land administered by the state.
Money from the leases would be used to support capital projects in state parks, a press release said.
Faber introduced a similar provision as an amendment to the state budget, but it wasn’t include in the final budget bill.
“With limited resources to work with, we need to give serious consideration to ideas that can provide revenue for state priorities without always having to go back to the taxpayers,” Faber said in a press release.
“This idea has the added benefit of helping to reduce our nation’s over-reliance on foreign oil.” Faber said.”
The bill would ensures that drilling cannot interfere with the scenic, aesthetic and environmental quality of the land, and charges the ODNR Director with adopting rules, conditions and standards to ensure the state meets that charge, the release said.
Jack Shaner, deputy director of the Ohio Environmental Council, blasted the proposal.
“It’s the same warmed-over proposal that, thankfully, has gone nowhere in six years. Why risk long-term damage to the crown jewels of Ohio’s natural world?” asked Shaner.

Mark…you miss the whole point…drilling is not what the old movies show,it is very clean now,the energy companies don’t want to waste a drop either, not because they have become tree huggers, because spills are expensive, bad press, and hard for them to deal with. They don’t want the headaches. We are not allowed to drill in the gulf because of the huggers, but other countries are,and we get to buy it back! make sense to you? Me neither.

What could be more natural than a park not subsidized by tax dollars. The parks don’t look great anyway.

If you take notice, these green advocates are still driving cars, not bicycles or walking, using electricity, not solar and using gas rototillers and mowers instead of push mowers and a shovel. These are the people that will waste land for windmills someplace else(and it takes a lot), as long as it isn’t in their back yard. But, they just couldn’t allow the rest of us the opportunity to be free of foreign oil or have lower prices. My advice… make a little survey with the above questions and check out the complainers true green life style. I don’t know anyone that chooses to be their version of “truely green” as they state they are.

Why do anything that may ruin the beautiful Ohio State Park system. Ohio State Parks are the one asset that this state has that is free to all people. Places of beauty and some of the last pristine places in the entire state. Hiking trails, clean lakes for boating, fishing, picnicing, and swimming. FREE recreation for all who come to visit and enjoy. A legacy for our children, and their children, and their children…. This has nothing to do with “Tree Hugging”, “Green Nut Jobs”, President Obama, Wind Turbines, or for that matter “Oil”. Ohio already produces sufficient amounts of natural gas, what ever oil there may be underground is so insignificant as to make oil drilling economically unfeasable. As for reducing foreign oil imports that’s nothing but a “red herring”. We import the greatest amount of oil from our biggest enemy..CANADA! Next in line is Mexico! For all of you doubters, spend some time visiting these “jewels” of our state. Relax! Enjoy! Revel in their beauty. They are magnificent and they are ours.

Why not embrace the creation of clean energy alternatives (and new manufacturing jobs) and save America’s greatest treasure, its natural beauty, when we can? Drilling for oil creates only a few temporary jobs, and lasting damage to our Parks.

Hey, maybe Ohio could sell oil and gas to industry and cause the price of imported to drop. There may be a few local jobs too.

Yeah it is much better to fill up all of the land with wind turbines. Nobody really wants much electricity anyways. People that live in the country can just suffer through the winters huddled next to the fire. Oh wait that will be outlawed as well. Those wind farms will be so much more efficient than oil don’t know why we ever moved away from windmills to begin with. Life would be so much better if we kept with the horse and buggy, right?

Wherever governments or businesses are allowed to chase the almighty dollar irresponsibly, that’s when you and I and our children suffer. Someone is confused. In the communist countries where no debate is permitted, the people’s health has been destroyed. Look it up. Let’s invest in something that will benefit future generations.

We need to get rid of the GREEN NUT JOBS first! They don’t care about prosperity, they want us to live in the stone age with KING OBAMA stealing from people who actually work for a living and giving to poor ignorant slobs who are stupid enough to vote for them!We will just have to start drilling and stop trying to talk to them because they have another agenda, it’s called MARXISM!

Why shouldn’t we look into other options for oil? We pay big to have it imported, and rely on other countries.

If, “The bill would ensures that drilling cannot interfere with the scenic, aesthetic and environmental quality of the land” then why even pass it at all? Oh, I get it! In the future some greedy bastard will be able to erase that phrase. Just drop it. Stop now while we still have green space on the planet.
