Kasich blasts Strickland over name gaffe but Kasich forgets names at a meeting

In a meeting with the Dayton Daily News editorial board on Thursday, March 18, Republican gubernatorial candidate John Kasich criticized incumbent Gov. Ted Strickland for how he handled NCR Corp. before the company announced June 2 it would move its world headquarters to Georgia.

“I wonder about NCR. Why did they have to go? I don’t know why they made that decision. I know that we weren’t on it. And if they weren’t answering my calls I’d be starting to call boards of directors. I’d know the people’s names that I was meeting with. I’d show up on time for a meeting,” Kasich said.

But when asked if he knew the names of all five people sitting at the Dayton Daily News meeting — including editorial page editor Ellen Belcher — Kasich admitted that he did not. And, Kasich called one writer by the wrong name three times.

Kasich also blamed a doctor’s appointment for his late arrival to the March 18 meeting.

He criticized the Strickland administration over its handling of NCR, saying state officials were late to a meeting at NCR and the governor did not know NCR Chief Executive Bill Nuti’s name when they sat next to one another at a conference luncheon in New York.

Kasich promised that when it really matters, he would know names. “You see, if I’m going to go into a meeting where I need to know somebody’s name, OK, I’m going to know it.”

Kasich said, “Would companies move out of this state if I were governor? Yeah, maybe some would but it isn’t going to be because of screw ups. It isn’t going to be because we didn’t know a guy’s name or we couldn’t hunt him down at a conference or we didn’t go down to his company and sit in his driveway ‘til he came out to talk to us. That’s what I’m saying to you. We need to be more aggressive down here.”

Since Nuti became chief executive in 2005, state and local officials, both Democrat and Republican, reported difficulty in getting Nuti to meet with them.

Last June, Strickland said, “I think the decision that NCR made was based on factors that were, perhaps, outside of the ability of the local community or state to make a difference.”

Strickland has told the Dayton Daily News that at the conference in New York he was sitting next to royalty from Spain and was focused on pitching some Ohio companies to him. He has said that had he seen Nuti’s name tag, he would have spoken to him.

I voted GOP all my life. Let me rephrase that. I USED TO vote GOP (all my life). I’m done with the clowns. This guy takes center ring in the same old circus.

He is just living up to his conservative party’s backbone, true hypocrisy. Call your opponent on a point and then do the very same thing later, or do something, support something, then call out your opponent for doing that very same thing. The just say no party is full of this hypocrisy, one for example; let GWB spend away a surplus into the fastest deficit every, but now they are ‘fiscal conservatives’ never say one word till they lost the election. Healthcare, they had 8 years to do something, 6 of which they had control of congress and the WH, did nothing. Kasich is just a flaming example, same mold, same lies, and same narrow mindedness.

This story shows exactly why this guy should never see the inside of the governor’s residence. He says one thing and does another. And he has goofy ideas. Wingnut says he’d know the names and he’d be on time for meetings. He didn’t even know the names of the people at the meeting he was at. And, he was late. Either he’s incompetent or his staff is incompetent or he’s a liar. Plus he’s got a goofy idea that even business leaders pan: Getting rid of the income tax. If he’s elected, say goodbye to your local schools; forget seeing cops on the street. Wright State University? Kiss it goodbye. This guy just doesn’t get it. Ohio can’t afford this guy. He just can’t be trusted.

Kasich didn’t know their names because he doesn’t care about anyone who makes less than 7 figures a year. If you’ve had the opportunity to meet Kasich, you would know. He is arrogant, rude, and incredibly dismissive of everyone.

It is a biggie that our dear Democratic Daily Non-newspaper (DDN) got their feelings hurt because the object of their hateful articals didn’t know their names. He should have called them goddie do or McClin a$$kissers.

Kasich meets with dozens of editorial boards, so what he can’t remember a name. NCR was one of the state’s longest/biggest running businesses, so I think it more important the governor know the name of the boss.

Kasich is a blow hard. All table pounding and no substance. Have you ever really listened to what he says: One cliche after another.

This is a “kiss and tell” article. I bet Kasich won’t be meeting with DDN again, if you report every little gaffe in the meeting. I don’t remember reading articles about former mayor McLin’s flightiness. Now, Kasich may be a moron for all I know, but I would like to read about what other topics were discussed in the meeting - surely things more important than name recognition.

I agree with Jason. Isn’t it interesting that Congressman Kasich didn’t know the name of the woman in charge? Shameful!

I am a long-time reader of the Daily News. Ellen Belcher has been there FOREVER. It strikes me as good politics, if you are running for governor, to know the ID of the person in charge of that page. Kasich is sloppy, arrogant and sexist.

No offense to the DDN editorial board, but you guys aren’t responsible for creating hundreds of jobs. And I can’t believe that name tag line from Strickland. Totally clueless.
