Ohio jobless rate creeps up
Ohio’s unemployment rate hit 10.9 percent in February, up from 10.8 percent in January, as more Ohioans entered the job market but were unable to find work, according to state figures released Friday, March 19.
Ohio’s unemployment rate continues to be above the national average of 9.7 percent.
“The number of service-providing jobs increased while job losses occurred in the goods-producing industries,” said Ohio Department of Job and Family Services Director Douglas Lumpkin.
In February, 647,000 Ohioans were unemployed and looking for work, up from 641,000 in January and up 99,000 over 12 months ago. In February 2009, the unemployment rate in Ohio was 9.1 percent.

It is a shame that som people do not think healthcare needs reformed. Our unemployment rate is ky high and you have comments for the stupid people that eventually it will come back to haunt them. This president has come in to a massice problem and you them magically the time he has been in that things will change. You absolutely must be out of your mind. If healthcare does not get reformed somehow I guarntee these companies will eat you alive if you become sick. You derve whats coming to you!

Unfortunately government actions can impact the job market. When the feds borrow billions, those are billions unavailable for private business to borrow as start up or new equipment capital. Tax structures and rates in flux can mean employers just sit tight and make no moves that might hurt their tax situations.. A de-stabilized banking and government system can really screw the unemployed.

The debt ceiling is the highest in history. All spending over revenues is borrowed and has interest. There is no balanced budget rule. The dems will not cut spending and raise revenues through any means they can. The repubs will cut spending more than the dems. The jobs created will only be temporary until the money is gone. Why should I let someone else who can’t calculate interest payments make rules for me to follow. The solution is TAX CUTS… DUH

BO’s policies do not offer any confidence because it is not targeted on the specific problems. Just throw alot of our taxpayer dollars around on his favorite projects and promise it will help create jobs. How gullible does BO think we are that the people would believe that you add 30+million people on healthcare and then reduce the deficit by taxing the rich for 6 years for 10 years of spending for his healthcare. The new jobs bill is lousy too. Incredible!

I don’t think it is all Obama’s fault but he is the leader of the Democrat Party. The Democrat Party promised a new direction in the economy (war on terror/blah, blah, blah)during those 2006 elections when things were actually pretty good for most people so yeah they own the “tanked” economy lock, stock & barrell. There’s no common sense argument the the Bush administration owns the current economy because the dems have owned the Congress for nearly 4 years now and you can see how that is working even with a dem president like Obama.

I used to get on ddn.com daily & now it seems there is no reason to read on this site. There is so much negativity, which I understand, I am unemployed myself, but all this talk about the dems & repubs, the gov’t…yet I am at a point where I don’t feel like the gov’t is going to help anything with Dyt. We are a mini-Detroit, anyone seen the movie Roger & Me? Watch it, & it looks familiar, in a very bad way. I try to do small things to help this city and/or people, but it seems to do nothing. Driving downtown last night I saw a huge banner reading “THIS CITY IS DEAD ALREADY…” All hope seems lost, & I do not see how the new mayor can ‘bring’ businesses here to create jobs…wishful thinking yes, but reality is much more hopeless…

He has no money to make this work so he will charge it to the grandkids. He is blind with passion over his dead whore mothers body. Get over it bho. People die. Look at all the rich dead people. If Obama would lower taxes instead of raising them the economy would actually turn around for all of the US. The Ohio tax cuts had nothing to do with the state laying off workers. Talking about not using facts. Liberal think it therefore its true, lol. How many times does it need to be proven that lowering taxes creates jobs? Oranges for brain doesn’t know what he is talking about and Squirrellygirl’s IQ is at least double his. At least Nov is getting closer and the dems will be run out of office. For the uneducated laid-off people, go back to school instead of sitting on your a$$ playing on the internet.

For all you morons who can’t see S.G.’s point. Jobs are becoming harder to keep and find because they are going to the real owner of the U.S. which is China(just wanna make that point clear for ya.) All those wind turbines that was going to be the new job market for the U.S., More than half are being produced in CHINA,and!!! The land that they are going to be placed on was sold to China. How’s that for stimulus. Get the point?

Last time unemployment was this high was under RONALD REAGAN. Oh, wait… that was “Carters fault”. But now it’s all Obama’s fault even though he came after 8 years of failure and lack of oversight of Wall Street by the bush admin. Deal with it whiny little chubby teabaggers.

Why is Ohio’s lack of foresight Obama’s fault? The gop legislature passed a huge tax cut back in 2003 that insured that state workers were going to be laid off when the economy tanked. The stimulus money is the only thing keeping Ohio from being in worse shape than it is.

I predict that when the HC bill passes there will be more unemployed. Use your common sense. When obama forces you to spend thousands on commodities of his choice you will not be able to spend it your choice. Say good by to your local pizza parlor.

Last I heard Dayton’s unemployment rate is 13.7%. This doesn’t include those who are discouraged and stopped looking for jobs, or those who accepted part time jobs or jobs that don’t pay enough. These are the people who have been unemployed for so long they no longer qualify for unemployment benefits. But Ohio has stimulus money for handing out newer recyclable bins w/microchips on them that will measure how much you are recycling. Isn’t that nice? And we have stimulus $ to pay for Brecht foundation in NY (communist org that wants to overthrow our govt) and stimulus $ for 2000 manufacturing jobs in CHINA!
