Kasich leads Strickland in new poll, 42-37%
Republican challenger John Kasich leads incumbent Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland, 42-37 percent among Ohio voters in a poll released on Tuesday, March 23 by Public Policy Polling of Raleigh, N.C.
Kasich, a former U.S. House member from suburban Columbus and former Lehman Bros. investment banker, has the lead even though 50 percent of those in the poll said they didn’t know enough about him to have an opinion. Of the 50 percent who did know Kasich, 25 percent held a favorable opinion and 24 percent saw him negatively.
“Those usually aren’t the kinds of popularity numbers we see for someone leading an incumbent,” the poll analysis said.
The analysis added: “Strickland, though is an unusually popular incumbent.” The poll found 33 percent of voter approved of his job performance, while 47 percent disapproved.
“If you’re a politician right now, if you’re an incumbent, you’re not a popular guy. That’s pretty much universal,” Dean Debnam, Public Policy Polling president, said.
So far the election is a referendum on Strickland, the analysis said.
“One of the reasons Kasich is this far ahead is (that) he’s not Strickland,” said Debnam.
The poll was taken on Saturday, March 20, through Sunday, March 21, with 630 Ohio voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.9 percent.

Karon, just because Kasich was a friend of Bush, doesn’t make a good enough reason to re-elect someone who really isn’t up to the job, Ohio can’t afford it.

Jim there were other things that contributed to our problems, but BAWNEY FWANK insisted loans be made to people that could not afford them, mostly minorities.Clinton and both Bush’s tried to stop this practice, but FWANKS promised he would turn it into a racial thing,no pres. wants that. And just for the record, the banking industry had more regulations when Bush(43) left office than it did when he came in office.

And how many times did they try to regulate good old Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac? Even Clinton admitted that the Republicans tried to get Congress to change the regulations and the Democrats fought against it. As far as government ran health care, when the insurance companies back away from health care entirely in the next few years…you will be sitting in a dingy little office with government owned doctors telling you NO, NO, NO, you’re only allowed to have one procedure…so take a pain pill and deal with it. You got what you wanted…health care ran by those that run Medicare…who are so slow in paying their bills that doctors have stopped accepting Medicare patients. When there’s a shortage of doctors then what are you going to do? I know…take a pain pill and deal with it while you wait to see a doctor. Wait until the new tax increases and the higher insurance rates take effect in January….then we’ll see how happy everyone is with Obamacare. It will bankrupt this country. But that’s just my humble opinion.

DonnaC, I hate to break it to you, but the banking industry played a major role in the financial meltdown. They gambled in the derivatives markets with money they shouldn’t have, and then payed themselves outrageous bonuses. The hosing market crash was caused by lack of regulation. The government never mandated that the banking industry make high risk loans, but they did allow them to happen. Regardless, the bankers share the blame, with the fed, and the government. That’s why regulation of the health care industry is so important. Left to their own devices, (just like the bankers), the insurance companies will run roughshod over the American people, only they will gambling with lives instead of money.

Common Sense: No, the banking industry DIDN’T cause the mess, the GOVERNMENT did…by mandating they give loans to people they KNEW wouldn’t be able to honor their debts. Just wait until Big Brother is in total control of our health care!

Kasich is ahead of Strickland, because Ted has chased three major employers from Ohio to Atlanta,Georgia in just the last year.NCR is one of them.

This is good news for now. The problem is that the election is still a ways off. Kasich is a sharp man with both business and government experience and would seem to make a quality executive for our fair state.

The reason Kasich is ahead is that the 50% of us who actually pay taxes are done with the politicians who buy votes by promising to “share the wealth”

William: You weren’t thinking when you wrote this. If Ted Strickland is an “unusually popular incumbent,” then why is his approval rating only 33 percent? Something is not right here. He may indeed be popular, but they still don’t like his job performance.
