Strickland praises big wind farm project for Lake Erie
Gov. Ted Strickland on Monday, May 24, praised plans to develop the first fresh water offshore wind farm in North America.
The project is a partnership between General Electric and the Lake Erie Energy Development Corporation, according to a press release from Strickland’s office.
“Ohio’s greatest potential for creating wind energy is offshore in Lake Erie and this partnership marks a significant step forward,” Strickland said in the press release.
“Offshore wind has the potential to create thousands of new jobs in Ohio and become a major source of economic growth,” Vic Abate, vice president of GE’s renewable energy business, said in the release.
The announcement comes with the Ohio House and Senate still trying to come to agreement on legislation aimed at providing tax breaks for wind and other renewable energy projects in the state.
The Republican-controlled Senate last week approved Senate Bill 232 but the House still has not acted on similar legislation.
The Senate bill would set up a new taxing system for projects in operation by 2013. Instead of paying property tax, including the tangible personal property tax on equipment and machinery, companies would pay an annual fee of $7,000 per megawatt for the life of the facility. This is comparable to fees in neighboring states, said Sen. Chris Widener, R-Springfield, the sponsor.
GE has pledged to providing offshore wind turbines and maintenance services for an initial 20-megawatt wind farm, the release said.
Completion is targeted for 2012, according to the release. The project would be located off the shores of Lake Erie near Cleveland. It would be followed by more projects with a long-term goal of 1,000 megawatts in the Ohio waters of Lake Erie by 2020, the release said.
The project needs the approval of the Ohio Power Siting Board, said Amanda Wurst, Strickland’s spokeswoman.

I love windmills - and choo-choo twains. Windmills remind me of the times that I’m alone in a quiet room. I just sit still and I hear a sound of rushing wind. It’s beautiful. Wind mills and choo-choo twains will save the planet and cure your acne.

Under Obama’s plan energy prices would necessarily skyrocket. These are Obama’s own words. Obama has an agenda and it looks nothing like what you would expect from an American president. Please think before you vote for the next representative next time. The Democrat party has been taken over by progressives, and even the moderate Democrats will vote down the line with the progressives. Do you want your energy prices to skyrocket? Can you afford that? I can’t. Please think before you vote next time.

There’s another thing that really bothers me about this president. He’s tying the churches into his scheme. Kerry said he has churches behind him on the green agenda. And Pelosi said that they should preach backing up illegals from the pulpit. Everyone knows that when churches preach politics they are at risk of losing their tax exempt status. I find it frightening that Obama is comfortable using “spiritual advisors” like Rev Wright and Rev Wallis to preach a different gospel, one where they CLAIM that Jesus endorsed Marxism, forced redistribution of wealth. Shakey ground. If you aren’t alarmed, you should be.

My excuse? Survival. I want to continue to live in a free country with a capitalistic economy. I want a president who respects the laws of our land, our Constitution, and one that isn’t involved in criminal activities like a ponzi scheme with GE, Clintons, Gore, SHOREBANK of Chicago IL. A president who doesn’t surround himself with Marxist advisors, trying to force redistribution of wealth on mainstream Americans when we are hurting and millions are still searching for jobs, a president who isn’t sending our jobs to China and using our stimulus money to do that. A president who stands with states reps instead of against them. A president who will do his job, secure our borders and provide for a strong national defense, instead of trying to tear down our economy purposefully to accomplish his Socialistic goals.

Leslie, wind turbines have been developed that can be used in urban areas, on the roof of a house of other building. As to 3 min. showers, I have a solar water heater, so rationing of electricity won’t effect my showers. Water rationing might, but I also have a 55 gal. rain barrel, so I don’t use tap water for my landscape and garden, like my neighbors do, so I will use some for my shower instead. Yeah, I’m one of those tree-huggers.

Isn’t it amazing that for decades the Saudis have been drilling for oil using our technology. Yet somehow at home we cannot do it or do it right. Gives one food for thought. Many of you would prefer to have all land covered with wind turbines. How many of you know that our electric does not come from oil? Do any of you know how we first got electric, you know before coal? Those of us in the rural areas already know how to adjust to the influxes. How are you city suburban dwellers going to deal when you are limited like in Venezuela. Enjoy those 3 minute showers. Enjoy your electric rationing. Especially during those long cold winter months. Oh that’s right we have global warming therefore, you won’t need to worry about freezing to death.

A wind energy project replacing coal is still great. Coal mining is not safe, it damages the environment, and coal is filthy.

Anyone WHO thinks this isn’t needed should watch how a BILLION dollar corporate BP didn’t WENT CHEAP on a shut off valve on this Oil Rig. An they OWN hundreds of Oil Rigs. There has GOT to be a better way…IT IS SAD to think our Govt is going to have to FOLLOW, inspect hundreds of Oil rigs to insure those SHUT OFF valves work. HEY…Wind power and SOLAR power are MUCH better options

This NEW alternative energy source is GREAT!! We need to expand on this program….after looking at BP one oil rig which has been leaking for over 30 days we need another option. Heck BP went a mile deep in to the ocean and then drigged over 3 miles below that. THAT IS EXPENSIVE!! An now noone knows how to even get to the leak. Another option
By tired of it.

Amazing how Poole just HATE any change. Drill baby drill, looks real fantastic in the gulf. Over a month and NO ONE has an idea how to stop it, great plan. Go wind farm, time the US gets into the new century. Time to drag the Neanderthal fossil users in the the new era.

The ‘big wind farm’ is at the governor’s residence, not Lake Erie…..

GE is not to be trusted. Guess there won’t be anymore boating or fishing in Lake Erie. Thousands of new jobs? Double Thousands lost jobs! This is to replace coal not oil. Hope you like freezing in the winter cause that wind farm is not going to give Ohio the electricity it needs to keep your house warm. How about the other states that we supply electricity too?

Wind power is a fraud. Our energy costs will go up 20 to 50%, and Strickland’s giving $300 million tax dollars to support it. It is about as dumb as the 39 mph “high-speed” train from dayton to Cincinnat.

This is very exciting! The US needs to be more aggressive developing renewable energy that doesn’t kill wildlife and plants and isn’t harmful to humans. No more off shore drilling!

With the mess in the Gulf, I’m just happy to see power sources that do not hold similar threats—-and have the potential for jobs as well…….whoever the politician that proposes it.

Big Wind Project…Strickland. Strickland is a blow hard. Seriously, this guy needs to exit so we can get someone to do their job. He didn’t encourage Brunner to investigate 200,000 cases of voter registration fraud during last prez election because he’s politically driven and allows it to interfere w/doing his job. Time for someone who can get us out of the mess Strickland put us in. We need someone who won’t try to spend money we don’t have, that’s why we’re in this mess.
