Republicans blame Strickland for NCR exodus

The Republican Governors Association is pinning blame for NCR Corp.’s move to Georgia squarely on the lapel of Gov. Ted Strickland, a Democrat now up for re-election.

In a 30-second TV ad unveiled Wednesday, July 7, the RGA hammers Strickland for losing 400,000 jobs on his watch, including 1,250 NCR jobs.

“Four years ago, Ted Strickland promised to create thousands of new jobs for Ohio,” RGA spokesman Tim Murtaugh said. “Sadly, not only has he broken that promise, he has also overseen the loss of hundreds of thousands of existing jobs.  He’s left Ohioans disappointed and wondering when their own jobs will disappear.”

The Strickland campaign fired back, noting that Republicans and Democrats agree that NCR Corp. Chief Executive Bill Nuti did not give Dayton or Ohio a chance to compete for the NCR jobs.

After NCR made its announcement, state Sen. Jon Husted, R-Kettering, said, “As a Monday morning quarterback, I can tell you there are probably lots of things that could have been done differently (by state and local officials), but I don’t think anything would have changed the outcome. They (NCR executives) were never interested in engaging on the issue.”

Nonetheless, jobs and the economy are a top issue for Ohio voters. Ohio’s unemployment rate dipped to 10.7 percent in May, down from 11 percent in March, which had been the highest since 1983.

Strickland is running against Republican John Kasich, a former Congressman, Lehman Brothers investment banker and FoxNews commentator.

Another case of Republicans expecting people to not be smart enough to make up their own minds and believe these stupid commercials. How is NCR leaving Ohio anyone’s fault.

I saw the commercial with the folks talking about how NCR’s leaving Dayton was Strickland’s fault. Did anyone notice how the phones were ringing and ringing and ringing while the employees continued to discuss NCR? It seem that these folks were far busier gossiping about the Governor than doing their jobs. If they were too busy gossiping, then perhaps the folks in the commercial should have lost THEIR jobs.

This is the same ad campaign that claims Strickland lost 400,000 jobs. Strickland didn’t fire those people and there are a variety of economic reasons for the jobs being lost. The real issue is that depending on government to “create” jobs is simply not a valid permanent solution. Never has been and never will be. Companies have to be encouraged to invest in a community and the community needs to make the economic decisions to foster development. Have Ohio and local governments done enough in this area? Probably not if you consider the magnitude of the NCR and GM reductions. But the blame shouldn’t fall on Strickland alone.

I would like to know which of you all-knowing blog commentators could tell me exactly how Ohio is over regulated and over taxed. Please only use real facts.

FACT: Strickland ran on a platform promising jobs. FACT: Ohio has lost jobs during his tenure. The ad is completely legit. Politicians on both sides need to be held accountable for their campaign promises.

Blame game tactics are not going to fix this problem…..the job loss and off-shore movement has been going on for more than 10 years….if you don’t understand the problem…the reason companies leave ….. and are willing to find the change that will entice the companies to stay……nothing will change and next time it will be another big company…listen up…school taxes are increasing everywhere ……….because the state can’t pay their fair share!!! so more heaped onto the beaten-up tax payer….it will end with the haves and have nots….. and middle class has been eliminated…..20-30 years from now

Maybe the reporter should stop doing he said she said and actually find out WHY they left - but that would be stirring the pot. That would be journalism.

Of course NCR was fleeing Ohio for greener pastures. Ohio is the land of high taxes and anti-business pro-union Democrats. Sometime do your homework and find out how anti-business it is here in the Buckeye state. Our politicians have to play “lets make a deal” and give deap discounts in order to just level the playing field. Think things are bad now? Wait until the Ohio hospital taxes kick in, combined with the Obama tax increases next year, things are going to get worse at an ever increasing rate.

Hey, I say go for it Repubs. So far, your ads have been nauseating, the “actors” repulsive and snotty. They’re good for the democrats.

Every time they OVER TAX, OVER REGULATE, Business will flee for the next friendly state they can find. This is what the Democrat party is now known for. They are ANTI BUSINESS and anti freedom of liberty. All of you useful iditots that still believe in bad big corp better look again at the people you put in office last time. WHO now owns all those BIG CORPORATIONS? Has anything CHANGED for you? Did it provide you with a job or better firtunes or did it benifit the BIG POLITICIONS? If you remember the Robin hood story they love to repeat, then remember why Robin Hood was stealing from the rich. It was because the rich, kings and Lords, were stealing from the poor tax payers!

All of us have sold out to get the pennies a big corporation have offered. Tax breaks, school taxes, on and on,WPAFB. We are reaping what we have sown. How do we fix this monster? Obama’s hope and change? Let us all step up and fix our own problems. For the GOOD of OUR COUNTRY!!!

As long as corporate welfare is legal in the United States- jobs will move thanks to the criminals we elect who take our hard earned tax dollars and hand them over to CEOs making millions. Nuti makes $2K an hour- and has lost 2/3rds of NCR’s value in his 4 years at the helm. Yet- he’s got the minimum wage earner in Georgia shelling out $100 million to entice NCR there. This is criminal- it’s not a democrat or republican thing- it’s a corrupt system of electing crooks. We have the best politicians money can buy who’ve become experts at taking from the needy to give to the greedy.
