OSU workers’ pay now online
The 2008 pay data for 22,968 employees of Ohio State University is now posted and searchable at BuckeyeInstitute.org.
The conservative think tank added OSU pay information to the data on state government workers and employees in local school districts. The Buckeye Institute plans to add pay data for workers at other public colleges and universities as it becomes available, said Buckeye Institute President Matt Mayer.
Since the website launched the pay database on April 30, it has had roughly 50,000 visitors conducting 370,000 searches, Mayer said.
“Given the volume of data searches, Ohioans clearly want to know what government workers are making, especially now. The Ohio State salary data is another step in bringing full transparency to Ohio government,” Mayer said.

Public Money, Public Information….This is not private industry, talking about your salary in a public agency is common practice and knowledge.Public wages and benfits have out striiped private industry for several years, let the light shine on this information, ask questions about the other perks that come with jobs we are paying for. There are vehicles owned by government agencies driven for personal use with no markings and regular plates. This entitled class needs to get in line with the people who pay them,I am not jealous, just feedup with the abuse

This information has been online and searchable for years. 2008 info is very old. UVa has had OSU’s 2010 salaries posted for many months; you can find comparative data for 2008 and 2009 right alongside. And yes, it sucks. It’s also the reality we live in.

Wrong. Beyond wrong. It’s one thing to know the salary of the University President or Dean of Whatever but do we really want (or need) to be able to do a search on Joe Dirt, the Janitor just because he is an Ohio State employee. Very wrong-headed idea. Like an earlier poster said, the rest of us aren’t even allowed to question the pay status of our co-workers.

Sadly, this has become a common American way of thinking: “If you’ve got something I can’t or don’t have, then I don’t want you to have it, either.” People who spend any time looking up this stuff really need more to do. In other words, “get a life!”

Oh my gosh, I am floored. I am one of the staffers whose name is searchable. I found out about it through this news link…not OSU! We are not to discuss our salaries with our coworkers, yet it’s now public for everyone to see??? Yeah, this will be a nightmare for bosses when employees see that others who do less work make more than them or whatever other situations may arise! Ironically, it is merit raise time at OSU right now!

Having researched several salaries of individuals that I know I really must agree with Shannon that that is too much information. It is like looking at a persons W2 which is not anybody elses business. This also could hurt the school districts that are trying to pass levies. Years of service, degrees and evaluations in general play such a large part in a persons salary and that is information left out of the equation. Plus do we really have any business knowing what a persons retirement income is. I think not. If you really wanted to know this you should request in writing not by browing the net. Think about it please.

This should not be permitted. If the state wants to list this information by job title, that is one thing but not by name. People have a right to privacy no matter where they work. The information does not give a complete accurate picture either. It does not give years of service so to an outsider a salary may seem higher than a starting position but some people have been in these jobs 20 plus years. Please look at the staff salaries; they are grossly less than faculty and people in other industries. This website needs to be rethought!

I think the paying public will be shocked at the wages these people get. As usual. the rest of the working are taking pay cuts just to stay afloat. Many college grads are being offered low paying jobs with no benefits. All schools need to trim wages.

Now think about this for a minute…do you really want some odd character to have the ability to do a “By Name” search for something as personal as pay data? In the real world, that’s a firing offense to pry into paydata. Post the data by schedule is OK by me but By Name??? Nope, this one crosses the line…transparency my lilly white behind…this is snooping and gossip fodder.
