Sen. Brown lands spot on powerful Appropriations Committee

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, has landed a spot on the powerful Senate Appropriations Committee, Brown’s office announced on Thursday, July 22.

Brown said in a press release that he was “honored” that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., chose him for the committee. It plays a major role in determining how billions of dollars in federal money are spent and how much money states and communities get for projects.

“This is about Ohio getting its fair share of federal resources that promote economic development,” Brown said.

“For too long, Ohio has been a donor state - with Ohio taxpayers supporting other states by paying out more in federal taxes than our state receives.”

Brown said he will be seventh Ohioan in history to serve on the committee in its 140 plus year history. He will join Ohio Republican U.S. Sen. George Voinovich who is retiring at the end of the year.

A committee vacancy vacancy was created after long-time Appropriations Committee Chairman Sen. Robert C. Byrd, W. Va., died away last month.

Congratulations Senator Brown. This is not only an important appointment for Ohioians, but for the nation as well. Senator Brown has an outstanding record on health care, the environment and commitment to the unemployed, he has also been an unyielding supporter of public education in his role as member of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee. He has just recently introduced the DIPLOMA Act, S 3595, which would serve to provide integrated services that would enhance the academic program,. especially for poor and disadvantaged children. I have the opportunity of watching Senator Brown on a daily basis, and Ohioians should be proud of his record, his intellect, and his courage.

Way to go Sen. Brown glad to have you working for Ohio! I am thankful for all the bills that have been passed in congress…Lily Ledbetter act, the healthcare reform,Wall Street reform, etc. Compassion is not a word that is in a republican’s vocabulary. There will always be people who work the system, but we can’t stop helping people just because of this. They have to answer for what they do…I only answer for my own mistakes so I don’t worry about other peoples mistakes, It’s called minding my own business:)

Brown will likely be as big a disaster there as he is everywhere else. It was probably payoff for his advocacy of Obamacare and destruction of the private sector.

Coffee is starting to kick in… that’s federal & state expenditures… oh well. Both parties spend on citizen welfare.

Total welfare spending (state & local) was $434B annually when Bush took office and $714B by the time he left. Makes sense considering how effective he was destroying the middle class — a lot more poor citizens to pay for. Obama’s increased spending likely accounts for more unemployment benefits, food stamps, etc for those that previously had productive careers. I’m sure this can all be soled by tax cuts for the wealthy.

Just one thing… If you really think the GOP has any capacity left to be, let alone intention of being, fiscally responsible, I’ve got some great bridges for sale. The rhetoric may sound good, it may get ya right where ya live, but it’s empty. Doesn’t matter what is in front of their names, D or R, you’re stuck with the same problem; who is paying them. By all means, don’t stop voting and get as many people as possible to vote, but forget any ideas you have that you’re actually getting something changed.

Just the Facts, Yes, Bush did add to the national debt 3.2 trillion. Obama and the democrats are looking to double that in ONE term. Bush also singed the first stimulus package (700 billion)(end of his presidency) when it was passed by the DEMOCRATS from the House and Senate.

During the entire administration of George W. Bush, the Iraq war cost a total of $622 billion, according to the Congressional Research Service. President Obama’s welfare spending will reach $888 billion in a single fiscal year—2010—more than the Bush administration spent on war in Iraq. Keep on blaming Bush.. It’s almost November.

Just the facts??? Get it right??? If Obama had been handed an economy,no wars, and a surplus the way Bush was do you think he would have added 3.2 trillion to the debt?

Kudos to get it right …you are correct. I knew what I was trying to say, I just wasn’t articulating it very well. I stand corrected. Believe it or not, I do know the difference between deficit and debt …

To Just the Facts: I think that if your name is just the facts, you should get it right. Our current NATIONAL DEBT is around 13.5 trillion, that’s DEBT not DEFICIT. Debt is all the years combined, Deficit is just for one fiscal year. Our current fiscal year’s debt is 1.6 trillion. Bush added 4 trillion to our debt over 8 years, averaging 469 billion deficit each year, Obama has already added 3.2 trillion to the Debt and has had deficits almost 4 times higher than bush’s largest deficit. If your gonna call someone out on the facts, you should know what your talking about first

Okay Pro Obama Dem, just what Obama promises would Mr. Brown deliver? I think Mr. Reid has already delivered more of the community organizers “promises” than this country can fiscally handle. Give me just one example that would prove to be good for our nation. Cap and Tax? Immigration “Reform”? Job killers in the same vein as all the other legislation rammed down our throats, against the majorities will. And will you dispute that as well?

Bill, where did you get the digits? The current Federal Deficit is a little over 13.2 Trillion. President Bush raised the debt 4.2 Trillion dollars in 8 years. President Obama has raised the deficit about 3.2 Trillion in 18 months. Here is the source for all that bow at the Obama shrine . . http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/budget/fy2011/assets/hist07z1.xls Artificial Intelligence is No match for Natural Stupidity!

What promises would that be? Could it be the promise to broadcast Health Care nogotiations on CNN? Could it be the promise to run a transparent Administration? Could it be the promise to reach across the aisle to forge Bi-Partisan support for Bills in Congress? STRIKE THREE, the Obamatard is way OUT of his league. If he promised to STEAL money from working Americans and give it to lazy, uneducated couch potatoes, he is hitting Home Runs daily. Keep drinking the Kool-Aid! President Obama is HANDS DOWN the worst President in US History! If you don’t believe it YOU are not paying attention!

If you counted to 1.6 trillion (our current deficit in dollars) it would take over 31000 years. That’s 1.6 trillion dollars. In one year.

Sherrod (Slippery) Brown is dangerous with our tax money in his hands. He’s a class A sycophant for Pelosi, Reid, Dodd, Frank, Schumer, and of course the biggest grifter our country has ever known, Obama.
