Docs endorse Portman, quiet on guv race
The political arm of the Ohio State Medical Association is backing Republican Rob Portman for U.S. Senate over Democrat Lee Fisher but is remaining neutral in the governor’s race.
“With a strong record of supporting medical liability reform and his concerns about the recently passed federal health system reform legislation, Ohio’s physicians believe Rob Portman is the best choice for U.S. Senate,” said Dr. Marvin H. Rorick, chair of the association’s political action committee.
Rorick said the group decided to not endorse either candidate in the governor’s race — incumbent Gov. Ted Strickland or Republican challenger John Kasich.
Strickland has supported expanding access to medical care and signed legislation that helped alleviate administrative hassles in the medical field, Rorick said. Meanwhile, Kasich supported medical liability reforms and efforts to level the playing field between doctors and insurance companies, he said.

Not all the doctors in the state support Portman. The OSMA is a right wing group that some doctors contribute to for political purposes. Many doctors are bothered by Portman’s jobs within the Bush administration.

Clearly the docs see the political winds right now. Strickland will be very tough to beat, but national congressional races are a completely different story.

400,000 lost Ohio jobs. George Bush and his tax credits for companies to move jobs over seas. They will never come back. Vote republican and get rid of all government jobs. Close Wright Patt. The largest employer in the Miami Valley. Then we can add 30 thousand more to the unemployment line.

I wonder what Mr Strickland did to cause baloney to lose his job. That’s like saying The president caused an oil spill or a hurricane.

Ohio doctors would enjoy a passenger train on their day off! Strickland supports these trains for this state, Kasich does not!

Well, in a related story Kasich just received endorsement by NFIB-Ohio which places small business elements in Kasich’s column. I don’t think the OSMA will remain neutral in the governor’s race since the Medicaid issue will certainly draw them to one side or the other as soon as both candidates state their position. Medicaid and education can’t be avoided by either.
