Rasmussen Reports: Ohio U.S. Senate race “toss-up”
Rasmussen Reports has shifted Ohio’s U.S. Senate race from “lean Republican” to “toss-up”, the polling company announced on Wednesday, Aug. 4.
The shift came after a new Rasmussen Reports poll showed Republican Rob Portman leading Democrat Lee Fisher 44-40 percent among likely voters.
Last month Portman, a former Cincinnati-area U.S. House member and budget director and U.S. trade representative for President George W. Bush, led Fisher, the lieutenant governor, 45-39 percent.
Generally, Rasmussen Reports rates a race a toss-up if the spread is within 5 points during the summer.
The new poll was taken on Monday, Aug. 2, with 750 likely voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
Portman continues to have lots more campaign cash on hand than Fisher - about $8.8 million to $1.3 million -, according to campaign finance reports.

Dr. Michael Pryce needs more attention. I saw him in Logan County not that long ago. Talk about a candidate. This guy would blow Portman out of the water.

As a teabagging Republican, I think we need to look somewhere other than Rasmussen. What do other teabagging Republicans think?

why we fight a war…a war against radical intolerant Islam that threatens to eliminate our country…you must have forgotten the thousands of our countrymen and women who died in DC, NY and PA…oh yes they were just an inconvenient truth! Well this 9-11 think about the last 9 years and why we are at war.

Isn’t it interesting to see that neither Fisher or Portman can pull ahead of the other? Perhaps the reason for this is because both of them are equally bad choices. For once in Ohio, we will be able to vote for something other than the lesser of two evils. Eric Deaton is running on Constitutional principles and does not want to be a career politician like the other two. He will be pulling votes from both major parties and will capture a majority of the Independent and Libertarian vote this year. If you are polled all you have to do is say you will be voting for Eric Deaton and you will see his polling numbers rise. In April his polling numbers were 7% and they didn’t even mention his name. That means if they had mentioned his name it would have been at least double that. Vote for a return to Constitutional Govt this year. Vote for Eric Deaton. www.deatonforsenate.com

It is sad that even the polling outfits are all in bed with someone or another. When will one of these actually calculate a poll that takes all candidates into consideration? There are other candidates in the US Senate race for Ohio and my bet is if we continue listening to the polsters about who has the best shot we are going to get another dose of the medicine that has been making us sick for the past 50 or more years. So lets consider some of these “third party” people this time around, there is no way we can make it worse and very likely will provide ourselves some much needed relief with one of these guys. Lets face it, we know what we can expect from politicians such as Portman and Fisher, nothing worth having. My vote is with Eric Deaton, you make up your own mind but really make up your own mind and stop letting others lead you, do your own research and vote with your heart there are other options available lets start giving them a good look. You can read all of Eric’s positions at www.deatonforsenate.com

The polling companies get funding from the RNC and DNC. That is why they do not even mention Candidate Deaton’s name when the pollsters call the voters. That is very biased, but the Constitution Party candidates expect to be treated poorly and unfairly. That will make the victories all the more sweet in the end. www.deatonforsenate.com

These comments all buy into the myth that Portman and Fisher are the only candidates. Eric Deaton is on the ballot and campaigning statewide. Once Ohioans know about him he will win this election. He answers all questions, completes his surveys and has recorded his numerous position papers on his websire and Facebook fansite. Check him out and then you will realize he should be Ohio’s next senator. www.deatonforsenate.com and Facebook at Eric Deaton for US Senate

I see democrat posts warning us that republicans want to take away your health care…but nothing can be further from teh truth! There IS a better way to provide health coverage at costs we can afford….but Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reed would not allow a reasoned debate to reach a bipartisan agreement…..so we got a highly partisan law that is already turning into a fiasco at far higher costs than its promoters “promised!” Its not wrong to vote against failing grades! We The People need to shake up Washington and the Statehouse again this November! Kasich gets my nod to set in place policies that focus on getting jobs back in our state! Don’t fall for the same old democrat promises!

I am consistently astounded by the number of people who want life to continue in its present direction. We are morally bankrupt, economically teatering on the edge of economic armegedon and socially inept. Our liberal govt promotes irresponsibility at all levels and then alot of folks scratch their head and wonder why things are so bad. We have allowed our govt at many levels to be rulers and not servants of its citizens. Someone blogged earlier this year that this election may be the point of no return. I see the divisiveness Obama and the liberals spread and I wonder if it isn’t already too late. RISE UP AGAINST YOUR LIBERAL GOVERNMENT! INSURRECTION NOW

Portman was BUSH’S budget director….that GOT us into the current mess we are in NOW. What good did Bush/Portman do for our nation….they caused problems…rather than solve them. The GOP whined and complained about Conservative principals and acted like DRUNKS on the peoples money..giving Tax breaks to BP…contracts to Halliburton, Blackwater and the rest of their buddies

I fully expect to see Portman rise above the Dem candidate. It is important to me to have a senator that will remain conservative, yet proactive in getting the healthcare bill repealed and standing against Cap and Trade. The rights we have as individuals are on the line here. I believe Portman is the man to get us headed in the right direction.

The poster about free trade destroying Ohio said it all. And Portman was a cheerleader for that. I am so tired of the same old same old and we wonder why things don’t change. Portman is the ultimate Washington, Wall Street insider type. just too much, Mr Hollywood.

The word is “ideologue”. How do you know what it means when you can’t spell it? Don’t you have a search bar? Consistency is important. Leslie, how do you like shopping at the company store (referencing early factory conditions where paychecks were easily spent at grocery stores owned by the employers)?

This is encouraging news! I think many people are realizing that the way forward is not a return to the failed policies and personnel of the Bush Administration.

“An ideolog is an politician that put’s his ideology above the welfare of the people..” Moderator you have just described the democrats of today. They say with words they are for the people, but their actions are clearly not for the people. Unless you like being a slave.

Portman/Bush free trade policies have destroyed Ohio’s middle class. Ohio cannot afford to have Portman drive down wages and outsource Ohio jobs. If you favor communities and small business over mega-corporations, if you favor main street over wall street, vote Fisher.

@moderator….what the *&^% are you talking about? Simple question, are you better off now than you were two years ago? Answer is no, vote for Portman, answer is yes, then by all means vote for Fisher, for more of the same. Study history, tax cuts help the economy, not hurt it. The job creation in our country comes from business owners who create jobs….mess with the, they hold back, jobs aren’t created…..just like what’s going on now and will go on as long as Obama and his ecomonic flunkies are at the helm.

Voting for Senator elect Lee Fisher, he really cares about the people of Ohio. Not some light weight ideolog like Portman, one of Bush’s favorites. An ideolog is an politician that put’s his ideology above the welfare of the people, Portman. Never go back to terrible failed policies of the Republicans, deregulation and tax cuts for people that don’t need them solves every issue.
