New poll: Ohio “leans” GOP in governor’s race
With President Barack Obama in town to raise money for Gov. Ted Strickland and Ohio Democrats, the results from a new poll on Wednesday, Aug. 18, weren’t good for Strickland in his re-election campaign against Republican John Kasich.
The Rasmussen Reports poll showed Kasich leading, 48-40 percent among likely voters.
The results shifted the race from “Toss-Up” status to “leans Republican.”
In a poll taken on Aug. 2, Kasich, a former Columbus-area U.S. House member, narrowly led, 45-42 percent. The new poll was conducted on Monday, Aug. 16.
When “leaners” were included in the new poll, Kasich’s lead increased to 10 points, 52-42 percent. This is the first poll to include “leaners.”
“Leaners” are respondents who initially voice no choice for either candidate but when answering a followup question say they are “leaning” toward a candidate.
The new poll was taken with 750 likely voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

LEANS? Ohio LEANS GOP? I’d called it sharply bends. Ohio, like the nation, is fed up with the leftist tactics of the Democrat party. Bring back the Liberals and get rid of the Leftists!

Facts are Strickland never disagrees with Obama and that is not a good thing for us. Trillions spent in bailouts for unions, to many job stimulus bills that have had no effect, and still no relief insight for us. How much more of our tax payer money do you want to spend before you see any type of good results. I say no more, we need someone who will actually work for us, not Obama and the unions.

Kasich said he will bring 400,000 new jobs to Ohio. All minimum wage with most being filled by illegals. He is going to privatize the State, that is a given. This State better wake up, the republicans are the one’s that got us to where we are today. Gov.Strickland has had nothing short of an uphill battle after the Taft era. If Kasich is elected, there will be tumbleweeds rolling through the State.. RE-ELECT GOV. STRICKLAND

Are american so stupid? I see some comments here and very scary..do americans really go to school and they just chose to be ignorant! How could anyone compare 8yrs of republicans to just few months the democrats has been in power, there are companies from Ohio relocated to ireland in the last 3yrs..democrats to blame for that? If the people of ohio chos not to vote for strickland, blaming him for their probs, fear play to the poor as they be the one to suffer, how can any sensible person vote republican? Its crazy thought, they want to take their state back to bush era when obama is trying his best..jobs dont come easy,we facing the same problem in europe, not only in ohio, stick with the democrats and let them get you out of your mess, republicanism is for the rich..wake up Americans!!!

I applaud John Kasich for stating up front that he will stop this passenger train nonsense. How many of you know that the state has approved outsourcing a contract for nearly $8 Mil to a California company to study a passenger line between Toledo and Pittsburgh?

Bill Clinton signed NAFTA into law? Really? well, he didn’t. It was in Bush 41’s last month when (Clinton?) signed it into law? NAFTA was a 4 year old Republican project that took effect under Clinton. Also, I heard Kasich today on O’reilly make the outrageous claim that Gov. Strickland has been raising taxes. Compiling all brackets from years 2006-2010 show a .24-3% DECREASE in tax liablity. Corporate and individual. Kasich lied and O’Reilly didn’t correct him.

I like Ted but he has Failed to bring & keep jobs in Ohio, plus he was dumb enough to bring the worst President in American History to our fine state, thinking it would boost his numbers, WRONG…DID YOU NOTICE NO HEADLINS ARTICLES ABOUT OBAMA IN OHIO, THIS ONE SLIPPED IT IN BARELY. MUST NOT HAVE GONE WELL FOR THE PREZ.

Kasich unforunately knows nothing except how to talk. What exactly does he plan to do except bash Strickland for jobs that were leaving before he even took office? I usually lean Republican when voting but not for the Ohio governor. Strickland is the better choice.

I get tired of hearing “The last 8 years, remember the last “2” years of the 8 were when the Dems took control of Congress. Argue all you want, the President is just a Congressional Puppet, he can try to make policies but he still needs the Congress to approve. I am voting for a new Congress this year and in 2012. “Incumbents out!!!! from both sides

The poll makes sense. People want a change and are tired of the lack of leadership that Strickland has provided this state. He has no clue how to solve any problem. If you can’t get the job done, it is time to go - John Kasich is a new fresh perspective for this state.

So sad to see that the partisan bickering here continues at a feverish pace with little to no fact-based discussion. The role of Governor is to manage the its citizens’ safety, security and prosperity. Strickland’s efforts have been hampered by a severe recession, and Kasich’s policies would likely lead to a further of the OH economy (IHMO). Jobs, and families, continue to leave OH, and unless and until that trend is stopped everyone is simply complaining about the deck chairs on the Titanic. Try to stop with the snide, generalized personal attacks — many of us hold both conservative and liberal views on various issues and shouldn’t be pigeon-holed by simplistic labels. The real battle is between the top 2% of this country and ALL THE REST. All the BS issues (e.g., the Ground Zero Mosque that is neither a Mosque nor at Ground Zero) are simply meant to distract us into fighting each other.

Loved Tygo’s post. It’s right on the money about the ill informed. The point regarding reading differing views, researching and learning is obviously not being followed judging by the posts I read here daily. Examine the records, do your “homework” before blindly casting a vote based on sound bites that appeal to your emotions rather than common sense (which seems to be lacking in many cases) and what is best for our state and country. Let’s not repeat 2008 and come to regret it later. As for me, I haven’t decided yet. I lean Kasich when I consider Stricklands ties to Obama, his campaigning for Ted will have “strings” attached I’m sure, along with his stance on taxes while I lean Strickland when I look back at both candidates 2nd Amendment voting records.

What a joke. 90% of these comments have no basis in fact. Interesting, but very sad how un-informed people really are. Here’s a suggestion for Daytonians; READ. Read conservative posts, read liberal posts, and do what you had to do in college or high school. (If you went). RESEARCH. LEARN. DOCUMENT. Then, and only then, make up your mind and post an intellegent arguement one side or the other. And Karon, for Gods sake, get some help with the train fetish.

Hello, Victor! The health care bill is NOT paid for! Read the latest CBO report regarding future outlays. Also, you were dupped, big time, by Obama, Pelosi’s and Reed’s health care bill. The initial offset of costs is NOT through health care savings, it’s from Student loans! Effective July 1, 2010 all new student loans must originate from the Dept. of Education. It’s estimated to be $100 Billion/year industry. Your boyz in D.C. are just taking the interest from those loans and saying they’re applying it to medicare/medicaid. I bet you believe that too!

Uh Vic, the reason US companies send jobs overseas is because the US has the 2nd highest corporate tax rate in the world. So Kasich giving them a tax break may actually save jobs here. The other reason they leave is hugely expensive union labor. Obama is in bed with unions and his anti-business legislation is hurting them. Go Kasich!

A few facts: -Rasmussen is a conservative poll. -Healthcare reform is reducing the deficit and is paid for - Kasich wants to turn SS over to the Wall Street -Kasich got rich with Lehman Brothers (tax-payer bailout Kings) -Kasich supports tax-breaks for companies to send jobs overseas -Kasich supports extending Bush’s tax-cuts for the rich without paying for them. Mostly Federal issues but it shows whose side he’s on and it ain’t working people.

Paul, I have to disagree with you because my health insurance premiums haven’t increased as you claim. The Republican party is running on repeal and replace all of the Democratic policies. I have read time and time again that the Republican party wants to keep in place the tax cuts for the rich while the rest of us financially suffer.

Trains are NOT a waste of money! It is these highways to nowhere and the BILLIONS they cost a year to maintain them. Kasich says no to trains , and that money Ohio was given 400 million will have to be returned, and another state will use to create jobs for there state!

Go Kasich! I’m glad he does not support trains. Dems want to use money we don’t have for a project that will not work. JMP, I hate to tell you buddy, but several credible sources have said Obamacare will increase premiums. The CBO is one of them. It is a sham forced on us against the will of the majority. I hope Kasich is for repeal of Obamacare!

Strickland stood behind Brunner when she refused to investigate the 200,000 fraudulent vote claims in OH. I think he’s crooked and can’t wait until he is kicked out of office. If he is elected back into office, it will be a sad day for Ohio.

This country could do itself a huge service by stopping all the “free” benefits to those who don’t pull their load. They should also stop all benefits to illegal immigrants immediatley. Hospital care and all. These costs reach into the billions of wasted tax dollars each year. If you are honest with yourself, you know darn well, we would not be treated the same way in Mexico or any other Central American country that illegals are here.

Obama’s “nanny state” policies is turning us into Greece - bankrupt. Our economic stability is vital to our national security. Obamacare is already increasing our health insurance premiums, which will bankrupt individuals and businesses. We need to get back to fiscal responsibility. Democrats are proving to be irresponsible with taxpayer dollars… They use our money to buy votes.
