Animal rights group condemns veal industry
An animal rights group on Tuesday, Aug. 31, called on the newly created Ohio Livestock Standards Board to come up with rules that phase out the practice of chaining male calves in narrow crates so that they someday become tender veal cutlets.
Mercy For Animals Ohio campaign coordinator Corey Roscoe said, “Veal production represents one of the cruelest industries on the face of the planet.”
Roscoe showed undercover video footage shot in mid-April at Buckeye Veal in Apple Creek, Ohio near Wooster. Former ‘Price Is Right’ host Bob Barker narrated the four-minute video. Warning: Video contains graphic content and is not suitable for all ages. > Watch video
That farm used to chain the animals by the neck in narrow wooden crates, which is standard practice in the veal industry, but has since transitioned to group housing for calves.
On June 30, the Humane Society of the United States, Gov. Ted Strickland and the Ohio Farm Bureau struck a deal to address farm animal treatment and other issues. The agreement calls for phasing out veal crates by 2017.
Roscoe accused the Livestock Standards Board of dragging its feet and failing to implement any parts of the agreement.
Lisa Hamler-Fugitt, executive director of the Ohio Association of Second Harvest Foodbanks and a standards board member, said livestock standards board is actively working on rules stemming from the agreement. “It’s something Ohioans should be proud of,” she said.
Roscoe urged consumers to switch to a vegan diet — one without meat, eggs or dairy products.

Crating baby calves by their necks in tiny crates where they cannot turn around is inherently cruel and should not be legal in Ohio. Five other states have banned this practice and the farm itself said that it was doing away with this practice. Now it’s time that the Ohio Livestock Care Standards Board recognize that this is cruel and phase out veal crates in Ohio. Ohioans you can contact the Board and urge them to ban veal crates in Ohio: livestockstandardsboard@agri.ohio.gov

Bea, do you care as deeply about unborn humans? Would you display such passion for a baby, delivered half-way, then suffering the scissors thrust into her skull? How about other forms of partial-birth abortion? If a child survives an abortion attempt, would you be against putting that child into a closet at the hospital until it died? Would you support such a practice? If a state legistlature tried to make such a practice illegal, would you support a politician who voted to against such a law? Everyday, thousands of little unborn humans are murdered, many suffering a very painful death, just because their mommys didn’t know how to keep their legs closed, or their mommys cheated on their husbands and now need to dispose of the evidence. Give me a break! Being a Leftist, fascist, bigoted, racist, you favor killing unborn humans, but would never allow yourself to support the right of another human being to eat animals. You Leftist pukes make me sick. Oh, Obama voted against the bill in Illinois that would have banned letting children who survived abortions to live. And, you Lefists say if a killer survives the first attempt at lethal injection, it’s cruel and unusual punishment to attempt to kill him again. Wow, is this what America voted for?

The Left is just standing up for innocent animals. At least that’s what they want you to believe. What they are really doing, is trying to destroy as many industries as possible. Today, it’s veal. Tomorrow, who knows. They hide behind emotions to force their idiology on America. After all, they know more about how YOU should run YOUR life than you do. When they attempt to get the power of the government behind them to force their perverted beliefs on us, we call that fascist. If you read your history, you will see that the Left is dominated by fascists. Having read this, many on the Left will attempt to respond by calling Bush or Palin a fascist, for the simple fact that Bush and Palin want Americans to be free to live their lives, without intrusive government interference. These Leftists obviously do not understand what the word ‘fascist’ means. I wish the Left would stop trying to legislate my life to fit their narrow-minded beliefs. If they want to murder carrots and lettuce, let them. If I want to feast off the flesh of Bambi’s mom, that is my right.

Ummm… speaking of teeth - All mammals including humans eventually get adult dentures - this is nature’s way of saying it’s time to “wean” from the teat. Strange how humans continue to drink cow’s milk when even their own mother’s milk would be unsuitable for them. As usual videos like this are accused of being “misleading”… Perhaps the visuals incite more than most people like to see (regardless of what establishment they were taken from). So here in just words are truths that any honest person in the industry would say is such: Female cows are artificially inseminated as a constant practice. This must be done to keep her pregnant and birthing and lactating. Her calves are taken away within 24 hours. Most do this during dusk so the mother will not become to stressed by her stolen baby. If these calves are male or “excess” females - all being “unproductive” to the herd… They are often sent to the slaughterhouse within days. Many infants have their umbilical cords still attached. The rest of the information varies to degrees of “housing systems” that these calves are placed in But all males join their brothers/sisters at the same slaughterhouse when they reach 4 months old. And finally, when the mothers are “unproductive” they too are carted of to the butchers as well. This is your dairy - Regardless of how small or large. These procedures must exist in order for the economics to work. Now, there’s nothing in what I’ve stated that is not FACT. And the truth is that many people find such practices… (no matter how “nice” the conditions “veal” is raised in) - to be totally unacceptable. For those who fancy butter, milk, and cream - They’ve had to ask themselves: At what cost? Can these frivolous dairy items justify this kind of treatment (no matter how “nice”) to innocent babies and docile cows? There’s no “emotional” graphic images here… Just standard practices of the dairy industry. In a nut shell: Steal the baby… To steal the milk. That’s it. We know that none of this is “necessary” as we can thrive on a plant based diet. -So how can any ethical person justify this kind of treatment to these innocent beings? The truth is they simply can’t. And our days of ignorance - Are over.

They cold-heartedly tear poor plants apart, leaf from leaf, with their bare hands and then eat the plant’s body parts without a hint of remorse. The poor plants don’t have a fair chance to escape. These sap-thirsty killers don’t care about the pain they inflict on the vegetables. They just want their salad. Never mind that their dinner was once a plant’s body part or the beautiful baby of an innocent seed-bearer. All that herbage for what? Just so satisfy the ravenous appetite of a Vegan. Oh, what a tragedy! How horrible! We need to stop the evil salad industry! It has the juice of billions of innocent plants on its hands. The plants do what to these Vegans? Nothing! They just stay there, stuck in the ground, minding their own business, and BAM! Some cruel Vegan rips their life away! Oh the screaming. The plant’s pain must be excruciating. WHat about the emotional damge done to the plants that watch? Imaging seeing your neighbor uprooted and torn apart! Those plants who survive should get tax dollars for therapy. How can this go on in a civilizaed society? How can we let Vegans get away with this? It is cruel and uncivilized!

c’MON now.Believe it or not, its all in the circle of life, God didn’t put animals on this earth just to be cute, its all about the food chain!! Animals kill other animals to eat you don’t see Ingrid Newkirk picketing the fields in Africa! lol.Vegan lifestyle is a choice, which i respect, but don’t call me a murderer cause i wanna eat a nice juicy hamburger! I agree animals shouldn’t be killed for fashion, but PETA members need to read the bible and understand why GOD created animals..something to shut those weirdo’s up!

Why won’t MADD just mind its own business. I’ll drive wherever I want, however fast I want, in whatever lane of the highway I want, however drunk I want. It’s called freedom you know. Oh, wait a minute … We have laws against that, don’t we? To protect others from the harms inflicted by my self-indulgence. But, there’s no laws protecting infliction of harm on veal calves, is there? Heck then - go veal! Uhh, wait a minute … Go vegan.

It is time to end the inhumane practices of veal production. Most who would oppose same have no idea what they are supporting . I am not a “vegan” . I am a farmer . It is time to end this practice now - not in 2017.

To all those vegans out there I hope you don’t use medicine they are tested on animals, use cell phones, radio waves have been linked to dwindling bee populations. I on the other-hand will be enjoying a nice steak while sitting in a leather chair. If humans were meant to only eat plants our mouths would not have have any incisors or canine teeth just molars like cows.

Roscoe, God gave man permission to eat meat. If God has no problem with killing animals for food, then you, in fact are forcing your religion on others. It’s time the animal “rights” crowd started minding their own business.

While I do veal for the calves, there is far too much at steak in attacking this industry. I do like Roscoe’s suggestion of switching to a vegan diet and I would do just that if the vegan diet allowed us to eat meat, eggs and dairy products. Since it doesn’t, I’ll just renew my PETA membership. BTW, PETA is People Eating Tasty Animals.

Whereas I don’t doubt that bad farming techniques do occur, I’ve seen first hand how veal operations can be very gentile, and soothing for the mere 16 weeks that these calves are kept. It doesn’t have to be a harsh environment, and in fact, the more gentle, the more tender the veal, and more tasty. I like it. and will continue to seek it out. And every calf is inspected by a Rabbi, blessing the event, and ensuring that everything, including the environment and handling is/was kosher.

Don’t worry, I am sure those innocent that you support being killed will understand the difference. Maybe those upset at this should see the torture involved in abortion and explain how that is not cruel but treating animals like that is somehow.

Have you seen that veal is now on the menu at the Webster St. Market downtown? Talk about a step in the wrong direction! Isn’t that an oxymoron when a “Free Range” Organic Farm sells veal?! Please let the Market and these farmers know how you feel and get them to stop farming and selling veal!

Those that can not show compassion to the littlest and most vulnerable of sentient beings shall reap as they sow. A wrong is a wrong… no matter how much false bravado those with cruel intent seek to mask their indifference and callousness. If it is ignorance their state can be cured; but if its willful ignorance… there is no remedy. As sorry as I feel for these little babes of cows; I feel even more sorry for those who lack the compassion to care.
