Rasmussen Reports poll: Kasich maintains lead over Strickland
Republican challenger John Kasich now holds an eight-point lead over Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland among likely voters in the Rasmussen Reports poll, 50-42 percent.
The results include “leaners.” Three percent prefer another candidate and 4 percent are undecided.
Release of the poll on Wednesday comes a day after some surveys showed the governor’s race tightening, with Kasich’s lead down to one or two points.
Two weeks ago in the Rasmussen Reports survey, Kasich led 50-43 percent, including leaners.
The new survey of 500 likely voters was conducted Monday and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.
In Rasmussen Reports surveys since December, Kasich has won support from 45 to 50 percent of likely voters, while Strickland has won support from 38 percent to 45 percent.

Good morning Terri… So happy that I could be a source of amusment. I imagine much in the same way as you are for me. Your thoughts “mesmerize” me as well. I always feel that way when I encounter arrogant progressives who are very obviously educated beyond their intelligence. Thank you for strengthening my beliefs and values this morning!

Lehman Brothers allowed the Ohio pension funds to lose $480 million in value for Ohio retirees… and the RepubConfederates did nothing about it. What was Kasich’s connection? Please cover this story…

I must admit that RepubConferates are a pet peeve of mind. They are fun to challenge… especially in person… or in meetings because of their one dimensional views of the world. They are rare to spot though since they never venture out of their cave like neighborhoods that are structured in such a way that prevents them from coming in contact with the real world. One brave Liberal however lived to tell the tale that rally worst then what anyone could have imagined. I, therefore, am waitng for my “first contact” experience with them even if it is only on the phone or in person… for you see I think they are aliens —- and that is why I am so mesmerized by them… —— For instance, Kasich, as as a budget director (while in Congress) says he balanced a budget… The statement is widly crazy… since everything he did LED to the financial collapse…but he continues to say these things as if no one can figure out that he is a fraud… Who else but an alien would continue to brag about working at Lehman Brothers, a wall street corp. that “gambled with the lives of “thousands” of Ohio retirees who saw their pension funds plummet in value to the tune of 489, 000 dollars…” Oh… to speak to just one about this in person would be too much fun… I cannot wait, especially since I have heard that they sprout horns during an election season.

Terri! I’m shocked! For such an obviously enlightend intellectual like yourself who simply wants to educate us poor, wacky conservatives to resort to insult and gloating! How beneath you! Your lofty lectures should be tempered with tolerance and understanding that us poor conservatives just don’t get it. May I give you some advice? Please quit trying to brow beat your progressive utopian idea’s upon those who don’t want any part of them. We do understand what we want and don’t want. We also understand how we got here and it’s not just the Republicans fault. The trouble with you folks is your arrogance and lack of common sense. Spouting the party propaganda as you do is having little effect this time around. We’ve seen the direction progressives want to take this country. We’ve seen what “Hope and Change” has meant. And now that the country is rising up against this agenda folks of your ilk get angry and resort to the insult. Is that intellectually honest? Sit back, drink a beer and accept that this time you will probably be on the losing side. I know it might be hard to swallow for one of your obvious superior intellect, but rest assured the people will speak in a resounding manner. Watching the Democrats run away from their legislative records and resorting to dirty politics is what’s amusing. We’re not buying this time around… So crack open that Bud and have a great evening. The sun will rise tomorrow.

I meant to say that the Republican philosophy or value system, which always borders on the insane precepts of life leading to the polarization of our nation’s citizens, is dying. We are a diverse nation. Most Americans realize this and know the Republicans do not serve middle and lower income citizens well. This happened when they boldly kept advocating for tax cuts and lax financial regulations decades ago. They now have a record —- just look at an income growth map under Democratic presidents vs. Republican presidents and you can visibly see that this is what they do… no one grows under the Republicans but the rich (during an election season you might see “something” but nothing legible but even that little something is based on their ability to entertain those that like the world of make-believe rather than the world of reality or facts that Obama represents).

It is a given in the world of public opinion that people like you John… and the T Partiers are whacky. I believe even Fox News is feeling this frustration having lost 296 advertisers because Beck and “your kind” lack the ability to attract educated viewers. Why not join the Southern Party… They share your distaste of big government… or the Nanny State. They love states’ rights… Or… better yet why not move to the Balkans… You do not even sound American… You are a minority at war with everyone and always will be… In fact, you are fun to watch (if one can find you since you are indeed a rare dying breed) so please do not mistake amusement for frustration. I am always on the winning side.

Does anyone else sense the complete and total frustration that Terri is expressing that we less intellectual conservative don’t see the world as he/she does? Could it be a symptom of a rapidly progressing wealth envy disorder compounded by a cranial-rectal inversion or just a case of “Kool-Aid” poisoning? I’d be frustrated too knowing that the majority of Americans want no part of the far lefts progressive “utopia”.

Without progressive Liberal-minded citizens you would be living in a different America. For instance, there would not be an 8 hour work day, social security, a federal minimum wage, a right to form unions, laws protecting the environment, a progressive income tax, old age pensions, anything and everything associated with any civil rights movement and legislation (Brown, Abbott, Gideon, Roe, Miranda, etc., end of Jim Crow Laws (worth mentioning again), child labor laws, orphanages, unemployment benefits, the Freedom of Information Act, the Safe Drinking Water Act, the Clean Air Act, the Consumer Product Safety and Health Act, the end of American sweat shops, the Department of Education, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, Women’s suffrage, ESEA, IDEA, Integration, etc. (or too numerous to name).

Why do Republicans want to adopt the same failed policies that created the financial collapse? Are they misinformed or is it because they do not have the ability to understand the facts? Why do they vote for tax cuts for the rich who do not create jobs or improve income growth? Why do they vote for politicians who outsource jobs and/or hire and exploit low wage earners in other countries…? Why do they support greedy corporations who must be regulated because they lack ethics or morality? Why do greedy corporations evade paying U.S taxes by placing their money in Swiss banks, etc? Why do they call themselves Americans if they do not pay taxes? Why was USB, the Swiss Bank, Kasich’s largest donor when he ran for Congress? Why is Kasich, a case in point, unable to share his tax returns? Why does he only serve or represent corporations (i.e., oil companies and works against projects like the 3 C train project as a cover story for his true ambition) but has no record of serving Ohioan citizens? Strickland shared 10 years of his tax returns, what is Kasich hiding? Why do they not care about children with pre-existing health conditions? Why are they heartless in their refusal to care about Americans who lack the ability to buy health insurance because they do not have jobs? Why have they destroyed the middle class and crushed the lower class as reflected on income growth maps depicting how Democratic vs. Republican presidents treat American citizens? Why do they try to hurt the poor or try to end Heat Start, student loans, social security, unemployment insurance, etc. but do not want income tax cuts totally 7 billion for the rich or estate taxes for the rich totally 1 trillion dollars, etc.? Why are they against consumer protections? Why do they constantly cause filibusters in order to prevent President Obama from addressing the problems that will allow Americans to live descent lives? Why do Republican voters find it hard to put Kasich and other Republicans to the test and demand that they answer some very simple minded questions anybody would ask anyone running for office? Why are Republicans so child-like in their take on politics? Why are there so many gaps in their thinking? Why do they promote stereotypes (i.e., people want something for nothing)… or make up lies because they do not study the facts? Why is it they do not know that where you find capitalism “without a heart” a term used by Kofi Anan you will find individuals fighting for social justice just like me…?

Don’t worry Terri … I will happily stay right where I am. But you leave me sad, because you obviously have a bright mind that’s gone to waste. I believe in 4 things: 1-Respect for the Constitution (you don’t like it, leave), 2-Respect for Life, 3-Less Government (upon which this country was founded-once again, you don’t like it - leave), and 4-Personal responsibility. What do you believe in? Which do you want to change?

I wish to thank Terri for providing us all with a closer look at how a progressive mind actually works. Can’t you all see how great things could be if we all would just follow those who are obviously far more intellectually superior? Are we all just ignorant of the truth, hence her urging to “look it up”, or are we all just too stupid to understand that an all powerful central government providing us all with cradle to grave security is what’s best for us? I sense her deep frustration as she attempts to educate us. Do we of the conservative mindset “understand”?

Your arguments make no sense. Absent the TARP and the fiscal stimulus, “GDP in 2010 would be about 6 ½ percent lower, payroll employment would be less by some 8 ½ million jobs, and the nation would now be experiencing deflation. The TARP worked; the fiscal stimulus worked but should have been $1.3 trillion in size…” We are not experiencing a depression —-though Bush adopted some of the tactics that could have led to one - lax financial regulations, tax cuts for the rich, etc. It is no longer amusing that the Republicans do not know how to lead. It is a fact they cannot lead or serve all Americans. Americans are tired of the do nothing but take, take, take Republicans, who do not create jobs and do not improve income growth. These are the facts that cannot be refuted. 700 billion for their income taxes and 1 trillion for their estate taxes would and could really help with jobs. Go get em Democrats! On Saturday thousands of Americans will be promoting this idea. Yes, we can… Change… the structural damage that the Republicans have inflicted upon this nation. Yes, we can… change the cuts Bush gave to the rich… Yes, we can… change… the lax financial regulations that led to our nation’s financial disaster… Yes, we can prevent Republicans from abolishing Medicare, Medicaid… and the US Dept. of Education…Yes, we can change and prevent the Republicans from privatizing social security… Yes… we can change wealth distribution in this country so it is more… balanced…fair and not dictated by the greedy rich… Yes, we can change once and for all the decade long Republican abuse directed at the middle and lower classes that has prevented our income growth. The time is now… The time is right to end filibusters or the games Republicans play when Americans are suffering and need jobs… Vote them out of office… The time is right to vote for what we want, to recommit to the change we want…

Do you actually think that educated americans are going to believe your rhetoric when it has been in their face ever since this president took office…give me a break!!!!! And I always love when a liberal actually lists all the thousands of entitlement programs that democrats are responsible for….Especially, that wonderful Obamacare. The “stimulus” did NOTHING for anyone. Get a grip if you think that it helped the economy. The purpose it served was to take over the auto industry for the Union, and to have more control over the banks and your money. You absolutely cannot blame John Kasich for “outsourcing jobs to China” because that was NOT his bill. He voted yes, along with others, but I guarantee you that they were not told the truth about what would happen once NAFTA was passed (The Democrats have shown their willingness to do business behind closed doors, in the dark, in the most partisan manner ever). NAFTA was Bill Clinton’s baby, and let us not forget that over 100 Democrats voted FOR NAFTA. What is good for the goose, is good for the gander. I wasn’t sure about John Kasich either, but I ditched that tired, scripted rhetoric that the Dem leaders keep cranking out, and did a little research. John Kasich brings much experience to the table, let his days at Lehman work in OUR favor. We’ve got nothing to lose, Ohio is DYING..and dying fast, under Strickland’s long and uneventful watch. The only thing that Strickland has managed to accomplish as of late, is to sound more and more like Howard Dean. Now, all we need is that embarrassing “aaaaaaaayyyyyyaahhhh” and he’ll have it down pat.

I hope one day soon people will realize it’s not Democrat verses Republican. It’s about our elected officials being fiscally responsible with OUR money. If they keep taxing and spending like they are doing now the economy is just going to get worse and everybody is just going to get poorer. I will vote for a Independent or Libertarian before any of these guys, some old promises they never deliver. I know many of you are thinking I am wasting my vote, but I feel the only way a person waste their vote is not to vote. VOTE and be heard!

Also … the Great Stimulus was nothing … wow … a whopping $200 … that really benefited me. And as to the Great Depression, some of you had better check your facts … Roosevelts efforts have long been thought by economists and historians to have actually exacerbated (to make longer, bitter, severe) and lent longevity to the Depression. It is now maintained in academics and professionals that expenditures toward the war effort (1939-1945) were the only beneficial contribution by Roosevelts programs toward the recovery of the economy back then. Don’t believe me? Look it up.

You know … I haven’t been involved in politics the way I should have been over the years … but I can guarantee you this … I will for this election. There is a lot of finger pointing going on right now from and at both sides. I am a conservative Republican and proud of it. Yeah … past offices have done badly on both sides. But it has never been this bad in a long time. Lets look at some facts. What started this off … the housing market. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were both GSE’s (Goverment Sponsered Enterprises) that should have been watched very carefully. Who warned us about them? Bush, McCain, John Snow (Treasury) and Greenspan. They all said they needed watching. In April 2001 Bush wanted to create an agency to watch dog them and all GSE’s … in 2003 that was upgraded to a ‘systemic risk’, stating the size of these two could spread beyond the housing sector if they fail because of their size … and they did … Congress pushed back … especially Sen. Barney Frank from Mass and Sen. Charles Schumer NY. In fact they said the gov should do more to ‘encourage’ low income families into purchasing houses. Yeah … both sides have done poorly in the past … both sides have had great presidents. But this current situation was caused by too much government intervention. I am a low income maker. But I know if I had to pay 60% of my income in taxes, I’d move to another country. That’s ridiculous and unfair. Would those of you who say the rich should pay more in taxes want to? I wouldn’t. And I bet you wouldn’t either. There should be a FLAT TAX across the board for EVERYBODY. But I bet you there would be some of you who would still complain … wouldn’t you? Some of you want EVERYTHING given to you. Well people, that’s not how it works. You know it … your parents knew it … your grandparents knew it too. So grow up and quite your complaining. We need to go back to the basics. You work, pay a fair tax, love your family, and monitor/watch/regulate the government … they work for us … we don’t work for them. We need to go back to a sensible time, and with God’s help, maybe we can get there. And for those of you who think God doesn’t exist or should stay out of the Gov … I say ‘God help you’ and ‘In God we trust’ … or did you forget that?

To Squirrel girl - Without the stimulus we would be experiencing the Great Depression. Please do your homework or try to come up with some facts that support your argument. Also, it is important to note that: Republican presidents during the twenties were responsible for the Great Depression. Why? Lax financial rgulations, tax cuts for the rich, monopolies, etc. Why did Reagan and Bush not know this when many Americans do? Also Joey… Greed does not serve the American economy well. The poor become the middle class because income growth allows them to become middle class, which in turn allows the rich to become the rich… You omitted this fact so the poor and middle class have a huge role to place in balancing the economy. Somehow, the rich are so rich that they do not need anyone to buy their products anymore. Oh, I forgot they outsourced their jobs and are selling their products overseas. Oh, and let us never forget Kasich and other wealthy Americans who evade billions of dollars in taxes by dealing with UBS. Bring out the facts. Let Kasich explain his dealings with UBS, the giant Swiss bank. Let him tell us what he is hiding.

@Joey - If you do have money in your pockets it was not because of Republicans. Check out their voting records. Republicans think every one is a serf. I want them to answer a basic question: Why are they running on the same failed policies that caused the financial failure? For instance: As a politician, Kasich likes to speculate a lot about what he is going to do to improve Ohio’s economy but he does not have any concrete arguments to support his proposals. He also never discusses the untended consequences of his plans. In other words, if Kasich had a history of being a successful leader, he would provide the citizenry with explanations for his policies and how they have succeeded in the past but he does not. Since Kasich is not providing his voters with answers — do Republican voters understand the issues or do they simply follow candidates like Kasich even if their policies work against them? Do Republican voters know and understand that Kasich plans to: (1) Eliminate the state personal income and estate taxes… Do Republican voters understand what the unintended consequences of these actions will be or how these policies will impact their lives? (2) Reduce education spending to pay for his tax cuts… Do Republican voters understand what the unintended consequences of these actions will be or how these policies will impact their lives? (3) Modernize and shrink state government… Do Republican voters understand what the unintended consequences of this action will be or how it will impact their lives? (4) Reform Ohio’s workers’ compensation system… Do Republican voters understand what the unintended consequences of this action will be or how it will impact their lives? (5) Give workers vouchers for training, but the State already does that… Do Republican voters know that Kasich expects them to remain uninformed or in the dark on this issue as if he will be responsible for policy changes that are already in place? (6) Use proceeds from the new casinos to fund worker training grants, but when Governor Strickland proposed it, Republicans in the legislature opposed him… (7) Defund the very federal programs he now wants to fund… (8) Overlook his role in supporting (while in Congress), the “Foreclosure” Commodity Futures Modernization Act (Phil Gramm), a bill that helped make possible the explosion of “synthetic CDOs,” credit default swaps, and the subprime mortgage market in general… (UBS, the giant Swiss bank that later hired Gramm, was Kasich’s number-one donor in 2000.) (9) Overlook his role in supporting over twenty “free trade” deals in Congress even though Ohio has lost 49,886 jobs from the signing of NAFTA from 1993 to 2004 (10) Overlook his role in normalizing trade relations with China, paving the way for China’s entry into the World Trade Organization in 2001. Since then, Ohio has lost at least 91,800 jobs as the trade deficit with China has increased… Kasich continues to assert, however that Ohio has lost “no jobs to China… (11) Overlook his role in voting on an Ohio corporate board to send hundreds of Ohio manufacturing jobs to China and Mexico… (12) Overlook research showing how the pursuit of so-called free trade has cost Ohio manufacturing jobs during the 1990’s until now… About the Estate Tax Teddy Roosevelt, a leading proponent of the estate tax, said in 1910. “The absence of effective state, and, especially, national restraint upon unfair money-getting has tended to create a small class of enormously wealthy and economically powerful men, whose chief object is to hold and increase their power. His Donors: His largest donors are executives of White Hat Management—one of Ohio’s largest for-profit charter school corporations. White Hat has engaged in “abusive” business practices while taking tax payer dollars like double paying board members for meetings, etc. His comments about the education system also show that he knows nothing about best practices linked to school reform. But let’s not forget that he loves Swiss banks who were his largest doners when he ran for Congress.

From the Benenson Strategy Group of Washington, DC. Excerpt: Building on a recent trend of favorable public opinion survey results, Gov. Ted Strickland (D) now has forged into the lead —- 41% to 40% —- over John Kasich (R) in a very hot gubernatorial race, according to a recently-concluded poll by the highly-respected Benenson Strategy Group of Washington, DC. Six (6) percent of respondents chose other candidates and 13% were undecided. The poll of 600 likely voters was taken conducted from September 25 - 27, 2010. Speaking for Benenson Strategy Group, pollster Peter Brodnitz said, “As early voting begins, the race for Governor is a dead heat: Governor Strickland leads John Kasich 41% to 40%, including leaners. While Kasich’s ballot support and favorability are essentially the same - 40% support Kasich and 41% are favorable toward him - Governor Strickland’s 47% favorable rating exceeds both his current ballot support [41%] and is 6% higher than Kasich’s favorable rating.” From Terri Here’s a novel idea: I would like all Republicans to look up an income growth map focusing on Democratic presidents vs. Republican presidents to learn how they have fared as middle class and lower class citizens under Republicans. Here’s another idea look up what the tax cuts for the rich will cost the middle and lower classes… a conservative estimate would be the 700 billion that will remain in the wealthiest Americans’ pockets…. include the 1 trillion for the estate tax for the rich, too (research what Teddy R. said about this way back in 1910)… Or… I know… Let’s look up the voting records of Republicans. Republicans voted: AGAINST the American Jobs and Closing Tax Loopholes Act (99% voted NO) AGAINST the Education Jobs and Medicaid Assistance Act (99% voted NO) AGAINST the Small Business Tax Relief Act (98% voted NO) AGAINST the Small Business and Infrastructure Jobs Act (98% voted NO) AGAINST the HIRE Act (97% voted NO) AGAINST providing $40 Billion in Tax Credits for Small Businesses (100% voted NO) AGAINST spurring Small Business Investment (97% voted NO) AGAINST helping Businesses Recover Costs of New Capital Investments (100% voted NO) AGAINST spurring Small Business Investment (100% voted NO) AGAINST reducing Small Business Estimated Tax Payments (100% voted NO) AGAINST providing Tax Relief (100% voted NO) Here’s another novel question: Why do Republicans support special interest lobbyists? Why do Republicans support the same policies that created the financial collapse? Why do facts bother Republicans or a discussion based on facts, alone. Leave the negativity at the door… Focus on facts. Sorry for the repeat but I am answering phone calls, writing emailings and saw this article and just had to address it, too.

Corporations don’t provide jobs? Republicans wanting to grease the pockets of the rich? So let me guess…you are willing to pay 60% of your income in taxes like the proposal for the rich? Why should any one person pay more taxes than the other? The last I heard corporations provide a lot of jobs plus tax revenue…and it is because of the taxes and all the ridiculous corporate laws that cause corporations to move over seas. What poor person have you gotten a job from lately? Where do your paychecks come from? Even if they come from a small business owner where does the product being sold or produced come from? How much more money do you have in your pockets or in your accounts since the Democrats have taken over both Houses in 2006 and than with a Democratic president in 2008? So you are telling me the hope and change is working for you? You would be the first person I have “met” that has seen a positive outcome from this group.

The Rasmussen poll is 4-11% right biased historically. Most polls have the race as a toss up. That is why Fox News loves to use Rasmussen. Here is another novel idea, how about Republicans use google to find out how much bang for the buck we got from giving the top 2% tax cuts? Or to verify that 2.3 million jobs were outsourced during the Bush Administration. Or to see how Kasich “sold” Ohio pensioners on investing with Lehman Brothers, costing Ohio pensions $$$millions.

Here’s an idea: all Democrat voters use google to find out how much bang for the buck “we the people” got from the stimulus. You know, how much did each “stimulus” job cost the taxpayers? Then all Democrat voters should check into how many jobs were killed by the healthcare entitlement bill due to the added cost of the penalty fee to be assessed for each employee (or higher “taxes” as the progressives now renamed the penalty fee—what it is—in order to make it legal and possible for the courts to allow it)? Or, you can just vote for Kasich since everyone knows Strickland stood behind Brunner in her refusal to investigate 200,000+ fake fraudulent votes last presidential election. Time for an HONEST CHANGE! Time for reps that will reflect the wants of “we the people” instead of their own political gain and pocketbooks! No more backdoor deals! Vote the commies out of office!

The whole concept of “likely voters” is not a poll worth recognizing or honoring. Here’s a novel thought: Let’s encourage Republican voters to study how their candidates are campaigning on the same failed policies that caused the current financial failure without any formula to offer voters a remedy

The whole concept of “likely voters” is not a poll worth recognizing or honoring. Here’s a novel thought: Let’s encourage Republican voters to study how their candidates are campaigning on the same failed policies that caused the current financial failure without any formula to offer voters a remedy. Once they see and understand this information they will understand that there is no way that Kasich (or even Steve Austria who is miserably flouting that he hates facts) can serve Ohio voters without being responsible enough to state how his or Republican policies have changed…Ohioans are suffering and need politicians who will not dig a deeper hole leading to more financial failures but leaders who will actually help voters… This is not about the egos of Republicans who lost the last election. They lost for a reason. Five minutes worth of researching the facts proves this fact. Furthermore, I believe all of the Republican candidates should have to defend their positions or why they would choose once again to grease the pockets of the rich. They should be asked point blank what do they get out of working against voters in favor of corporations who do not create jobs or support income growth for all voters in Ohio but prefer to earn as much money as they can by outsourcing jobs to countries where they can exploit workers through low salaries. Let them show not only Ohio but the nation how low they are in only seeking ways that allow them to earn money and not serve all voters.
