Mandel won’t pull controversial campaign ad
Democrat Kevin Boyce’s campaign for state treasurer asked his opponent, Republican Josh Mandel, to immediately stop airing a controversial TV ad because the Boyce camp believes it is inciting threats against Deputy State Treasurer Amer Ahmad and his family.
The 30-second ad, which is running statewide, implies that Boyce is a Muslim who announced a secretarial job opening in the treasurer’s office at a mosque. Boyce is a Christian. Ahmad is a Muslim.
Ahmad’s wife said in a written statement that on Oct. 1 a silver truck stopped outside her house in Delaware County, the two men in the truck pointed and stared a her, and revved the engine.
The Boyce campaign is alleging that the campaign ad poses a threat to the Ahmad family.
Mandel campaign spokesman Joe Aquilino said, “That’s not logical. Of course, we do not condone that behavior in any way. That’s just wrong.”
Aquilino said, “We believe the ad is 100 percent accurate and we have no plans to pull the ad.”
