Governor’s race tightens in Quinnipiac poll; Kasich leads Strickland, 50-41 percent
Republican John Kasich leads Democratic incumbent Ted Strickland, 50-41 percent among likely voters in a Quinnipiac University poll released on Tuesday.
That’s down from a 54-37 percent lead Kasich had in a Sept. 16 Quinnipiac poll. Other public polls have shown a tighter race. The Dayton Daily News/Ohio Newspaper poll showed Kasich leading, 49-45 percent.
The RealClearPolitics.com Web site showed Kasich with an average lead of 3.5 percent in public polls.
Kasich leads 62 - 29 percent lead among independent voters in the new poll, the group responsible for his overall lead.
“The governor’s race has tightened but Kasich still has a healthy lead with four weeks until election day,” Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, said in a press release.
“If Gov. Strickland is to mount a comeback, he needs to make a major dent in Kasich’s commanding lead among independent voters, who often make the difference in close elections in Ohio.”
President Barack Obama’s frequent trips to Ohio don’t seem to be helping Strickland.
Just 14 percent of likely voters overall and just 6 percent of independent voters say the president’s visits make them more likely to vote for Strickland.
Thirty-three percent of likely voters overall and 39 percent of independent voters say a presidential visit makes it less likely they’ll back Strickland.
Other poll results:
*Voters disapprove, 57-39 percent, of the job President Obama is doing in the White House.
*Voters disapprove, 53-40 percent, of the job Strickland is doing as governor.
*Voters disapprove, 58-35 percent, of Strickland’s handling of the economy.
*By 51 - 39 percent, voters think Kasich would do a better job than Strickland in rebuilding the state’s economy.
*Just 14 percent of likely voters think the state’s economy is getting better, while 45 percent say it’s getting worse and 40 percent say it’s staying the same.
*Strickland leads 88 - 3 percent among those who think the economy is improving while Kasich leads 55-38 percent among those who say it’s about the same and 76 - 13 percent among those who think it is getting worse.
The poll was taken Sept. 29 through Sunday with 1,025 likely voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.

I’m a bad actor. I pretend to care about the unemployed workers who can’t find jobs. Since I can’t argue the issues, I’ll try to distract to other stuff. I don’t want to talk about how I lost so many jobs on my watch, or how I misspent the stimulus tax dollars. I’d rather talk about how Kasich is wall street. It’s better than talking about my progressive left wing radical agenda! High Obama! I mean, Hitler!

In what universe, what dimension, could you consider what Strickland has done as a “good job”? In your dreams? We lost jobs under his watch. He doesn’t care about the American worker, but he does care that the union gets their share! Unions don’t care about the workers, they rip off their pension funds and then pretend to care about the workers, just like Strickland. Vote for Kasich!

I think I agree with Strong Conservative on this one. I believe Kasich is a RINO and Republicans do not need to muddy up the water with traitors in their midst. I am for a strong socially and fiscally conservative Republican party that is firmly rooted in the Constitution first. In lieu of that maybe I’ll just leave that spot blank. Why couldn’t the Ohio Republican party have found a much better candidate to run for Governor? Man, I do despise RINO’s.

In 2006 Ted Strickland ran for governor on the platform of not being Ken Blackwell. I voted for him because he was not Ken Blackwell. He was elected because he was not Ken Blackwell. Unfortunately in 4 years of office, the only thing he has accomplished is proving that he is not Ken Blackwell. What a waste of an elected official.

OMG, now the Liberal Left Democrats are trying to tie Buckeyes with Strickland. Talk about two opposites. The Buckeyes are Champions and winners and Strickland is a failure and a loser. It must be desperation City for the Liberal Left. Voters are fed up with the fake promises and talk of dreams. In stark reality, A vote for Strickland is a vote for bigger Government and against the middle class.

Kasich is a shill for Wall Street. What he really wants is to get his grubby hands on the Ohio Public Pensions. Strickland has had a lot on his plate, and all things considered, he’s done a good job. Kasich is making promises he can’t possibly keep.

I just love hearing the worried squeals of the little democrat piggies as they try to figure out how to tell another lie to the sheeple to get them back in line behind their chosen drones. Goodbye Strickland, see ya on the unemployment line with all the others you’ve let down.

Check ALL the major polls. It is much closer than this one. Some even have Strickland with a small lead. Four weeks is an eternity in a political campaign. Neither party can be too comfortable with the recent polls.

Rich, Kasich was directly responsible for making the Clinton Assualt Weapons Ban possible. http://www.buckeyefirearms.org/publicfiles/pdf/dirtydozen.pdf @ohiodonkeydude : While that spending was egregious, which party controlled both houses and rammed those bills through? Hint: It wasn’t the R’s.

Strickland supports passenger trains for Ohio! Ohio received 400 million for these trains! Kasich says he will return this money to the feds and it will go to another state and they set up the trains and jobs for their state. VOTE STRICKLAND and save this money for Ohio and jobs and economic development! VOTE STRICKLAND!

G-Dog, et al., I’m leaning Kasich. Yours is the first I’ve heard on him being anti. Just check his site, here’s what it says: John Kasich and Mary Taylor applaud Ohio’s sportsmen for their stewardship of our state’s abundant wildlife and their work to help conserve our beautiful natural resources. Hunting, fishing and enjoying the outdoors are important parts of Ohio’s culture, as well as its economy. Supporting Ohio’s sportsmen starts with protecting Second Amendment rights. Ted Strickland goes out of his way to offend gun owners by deliberately selecting lieutenant governor candidates who are openly hostile to the Second Amendment. Lee Fisher was a board member of Handguns Control, Inc., and Yvette McGee Brown has publicly voiced her anti-Second Amendment views. John and Mary are united in their strong support for the right to bear arms. As a member of Congress, John received three “A” level NRA ratings, was endorsed by the NRA three times and received campaign contributions from the NRA six times. In the legislature Mary earned an NRA “A” rating and enjoys trap shooting with her family. Instead of trying to take guns away from people, John Kasich and Mary Taylor believe government should focus on demanding more personal responsibility and holding criminals responsible for their actions.” Does someone know somethign different?

Both of the major party candidates are long time politicians. Neither will provide leadership. Both will simply provide the same party/power driven rhetoric and actions. 4 years from now, we will all be left scratching our heads wondering what happened while we once again choose between candidates provided by the two party system. Vote for someone other than a Dem or Pub if you really want things to change.

There is a state I know of where taxes are low, regulations are low, and the overall climate is friendly toward business. It’s called Alabama. You want to raise your kids there? Fine. Move there. Take them with you. You’ll fit right in, Cletus. I want to live in Ohio, not Alabama. F- Kasich.

Nice headline DDN. Kasich is now crushing Strickland by 9 rather than the previous crushing by 17. Strickland’s getting destroyed in both polls. And in particular, any incumbent is defined by his number in the polls. Strickland is at 41 in this one, and in the low 40’s in almost every poll. That’s as high as he is going, no matter how much you try to help him out ;)

I am leaning toward Kascich because of Fiscal Responsiblity, but I wish he would stand up and fight for slot machines at the race tracks. I’m hoping since he worked for Lehmen Brothers he is already a gambler so why not stand up for the slots. Religion needs to be kept out of politics, and if he follows by this he will be a great Governor for Fiscal Conservatives, Independents and Moderate Democrats.

I know that I don’t want Strickland reelected. I don’t like the path our country and state are on, and kicking Strickland out of office is the first step to restoration. The out of control spending has to be stopped. Strickland stood behind Brunner in not investigating 200,000+ fraud votes in OH. That’s enough for me.

John Kasich is not a conservative. He is a RINO and will be worse than Bob Taft. The RINO’s controlled both houses of the Ohio legislature for 12 years and didn’t fix any problems. Kasich is making promises he can’t possibly keep. I’m sitting this one out, or quite possibly I might vote Strickland because he’s great on 2nd Amendment issues.
