Ohio voters sour on economy, Kasich slightly ahead, poll shows
In the homestretch of the election season, Ohioans are still sour on the economy with 90 percent saying the recession has yet to end in the Buckeye state and nearly two-thirds saying that they don’t believe the job situation will improve in the next six months, according to a new poll released Thursday.
Against that backdrop, 46 percent of likely voters indicated they’ll vote for Republican John Kasich for governor and 42 percent said they’ll back incumbent Democrat Ted Strickland.
Only 5 percent of voters are still undecided on whom they want for governor. The race is so close that third party candidates could impact the outcome. Four percent of likely voters plan to cast their ballot for Green Party candidate Dennis Spisak and 2 percent back Libertarian Party candidate Ken Matesz, according to the poll by Suffolk University.
Suffolk also found that Democrat Lee Fisher trails Republican Rob Portman by 10 points in the race for U.S. Senate.
The Suffolk poll asked likely voters about down-ticket races too. It found the following:
Attorney General: former U.S. Senator Mike DeWine, a Republican, leads incumbent Democrat Richard Cordray 44 percent to 38 percent. Thirteen percent are undecided.
Secretary of State: Franklin County Democrat Maryellen O’Shaughnessy leads Republican state Sen. Jon Husted of Kettering 40 percent to 33 percent with another 23 percent of voters undecided.
Treasurer: Incumbent Democrat Kevin Boyce leads state Rep. Josh Mandel 37 percent to 34 percent with another 24 percent of voters undecided.
Auditor: Democrat David Pepper of Hamilton County leads Republican Dave Yost of Delaware County 33 percent to 29 percent with another 32 percent of voters undecided.
The poll, which was conducted Oct. 4 through 6, has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 points.

Why would this be even close race. Portman and Kasich are two crooked politicians. Why would you vote for these guys after 8 year of failed policies and 20 months of dealys, blocks and political ploys while this country suffers. And you think the damaged this party caused can restructure this country in 20 months of new administration. It will take at least two more years more to somewhat straigthen things back out it is common sense to see any improvement. We do not need these guys messing with social security, medicare or wages for the normal working individual. While giving more money to the upper few. This did not work before and won’t work now. Both these guys now they say are not going to do this but it is a flat out lie Ohio. Ohio voters better smarten up if they have payed attention the last 8 years and 20 months on this parties games or it is too late for Ohio as well as the country. If you think this party is for the day to day working class no matter what they tell you they are lying for votes. Ohio wake up how long are you going to believe these guys. This not voter intimidation do the reasearch!

Extremists and kooks are all the republicons have to offer. The real nutcases they seem to have banished to the Teabagger party. We had eight years of Bush, we don’t need any more inferiority.

Here you go christian….Congressional Republicans continued to use tired and false arguments against unemployment benefits. These are the same Congressional Republicans who — instead of supporting middle-class Americans as they look for work — support nearly $700 billion in deficit-busting Bush tax cuts for the wealthy few without paying for them, leaving everyone else to fend for themselves.

Hey Bischoff— I highly-trained journalist such as yourself would certainly know that an incumbent never outperforms his number in the polls. When Ted Strickland is at 42, that means he will lose —- or at least is in serious, serious trouble. You’re spinning a little, but that’s understandable given your apparent affinity for the governor!

Who was the last president to balance the budget? Where did the surplus go? It’s easy to lie, cheat, and steal while preaching responsibility. The Dems do all of the hard work of planning for the future.

This president according to the GAO ( Government Accounting Office ) has rung up more debt than all the presidents from Washington to Bush combined. Thats a fact. I’m sure that a lot of tough decisions will have to be made, programs possibly cut, spending reigned in. Its easy to be a Democrat, you just say yes to everything and ring up more debt, and then the Republicans ( daddy party ) have to use some tough love to try and fix things so that our kids will have a chance, and not be saddled with all the debt.

I’m sort of in between and not sure which way to vote, but I’ve been reading comments on here, but can anyone show me with truth and articles what republicans have done for the unemployed, like myself, and what they are doing to create jobs? It seems republicans just think sending jobs out of the country will fix everything

Washington, D.C. –Republicans vote to block bill that would allow Americans with preexisting conditions to get health insurance.. Ask yourself, what has the republican party ever done for you, and then ask , what have they done for big business? The truth sometimes hurts

Washington, D.C. – “Yesterday, the House Republicans voted to reject increased funds for veterans’ health care in the war supplemental and today they voted to actually cut veterans benefits in their budget resolution. This is wrong,” said Lane Evans (IL), the senior Democrat on the Veterans Affairs Committee.

hey paul if it wasnt for the dems, there would be no social security, medicare, medicaid, unemployment, workers comp. Do you wanna make america a third world country? I already know what you are thinking. You are gonna say that these are entitlement programs and they need to be cut. So I say we should cut all of these benefits efectively immediately. Then you are gonna argue that you paid into these programs your whole life so you should get a payout. Well guess what, when you pay into something, so you can get something out, that IS NOT an entitlement program. You repubs act like its free money. I get so tired of schooling repubs in the truth. If you want to see CEOs make hundreds of millions a year while the working man makes minimum wage then vote repub. If you wanna see all americans make a good wage than vote dem.If you repubs actually wanna know the truth the try to prove me wrong. But be ready to hear the truth with rock solid facts

How can anyone who votes repub talk about a handout? Democrats try to help other Americans, Repubs believe in giving handouts to the chinese. Fact: democrats tried to stop tax breaks for companies that send US jobs overseas. Rebubs filibustered it saying sending american jobs overseas is americas way back to prosperity. Repubs are for the rich and big corporations, thats why corporations send jobs overseas, the rich get richer and everyone else gets poorer, these are facts that can be supported by repubs own words, try to doubt me please. Anyone who votes repub and is not rich is obvioslly not smart enough to realize what they are voting for. To put it simply(because repubs need it simple) voting repub will destroy America as we know it, except for the rich.

Czar do you have a clue or a job for that matter? Were you one of the idiots who voted for Obama? My guess is that you feel entitled to your monthly check from the government. Poor guy. You were dumb enough to fall for the smooth talking Hollywood Politician. Why is someone who wants to create jobs and make Ohio a place where others want to live an extremist? If you were a logical person you would realize that Ohio needs a fresh new and obviously intelligent man as our leader. You have no room to call anyone a Kook.

Really, if you want to know the kind of person who supports a guy like Kasich, just review the nutbag posts on this site every day of Leslie, Squirrellynut and Jack and the others below. These people are sad examples of the kind of fringe lunatics that extreme candidates like Kasich attract. Please, it is one thing to be angry, it is another to be self-destructive and vote for extremists and kooks.

Democrats couldn’t create a job if their lives depended on it! Democrats are too focused on where the next welfare/hand-out/entitlement is coming from! Democrats would rather beat-down minorities and hispanics and tell them they “need” the Democrats to take care of them… they want their thumb on you, so they can control you and how you vote.
