UPDATED with Kasich campaign response: Democratic Governors Assoc. head stumps for Strickland
Delaware Gov. Jack Markell, chairman of the Democratic Governors Association, said Wednesday in Columbus that re-electing Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland is one of the group’s top priorities.
“Ted Strickland is the real deal when it comes to jobs in general” and certainly clean energy jobs, Markell said after he and Strickland toured a new biomass waste-to energy-project in Columbus.
The quasar energy group’s biodigester will take manure and other waste and convert them into fuel that can be used for generating electricity.
Strickland said that he fears if Republican challenger John Kasich is elected that Kasich may abandon Ohio’s mandated goal that by 2025 at least 25 percent of energy sold in the state must come from renewable or advanced energy sources.
Strickland said that he believes his message that he is creating new jobs with advanced and renewable energy products can counter Kasich claims that the state has lost nearly 400,000 jobs since Strickland took office.
Strickland blamed those job losses on the national recession which he said was caused by former President George W. Bush, Congress and Wall Street.
“I don’t minimize the significance of the job loss,” Strickland said.
Kasich campaign spokesman Rob Nichols said in an e-mail that Kasich opposes government mandates that cause “harmful increases in energy prices” and that low energy prices are important for manufacturing.
“He supports increasing renewable generation in Ohio and would not repeal our renewable energy program, but he wants to make sure we’re doing everything possible to prevent Ohio’s utilities from having to buy expensive electricity from out-of-state state,” Nichols added.Â

OK - here are some things we can agree on. I’m no big fan of Boehner or career politicians in general. Is he better than Pelosi - absolutely but thats not saying much. I’m not real big on career politicians in general. Guess we’ll have to “change the House to see whats in it, eh?” Do I expect miracles should the Republicans take over the house? Nope - and if the Republicans fall back to their prior spending habits then they should be held accountable. We’ve got serious problems with a 14T deficit and some 50T in unfunded mandates between SSI and Medicare/Medicaid. For the 1st time in my lifetime, words like economic collapse, hyper inflation, etc are being mentioned not as a scare tactic, but as a real possibility if we do not change our ways. For the life of me, I cannot see how the policies of this Prez address that issue. The cure for what ails us primarily rests with economic growth, coupled with reduced spending and yes - perhaps even increased taxes. As a generation, boomers have lived the high life, living in a fantasy world that we can have it all and now the answer is to pass it along to the boomer’s kids and grandkids. As a culture and generation if we don’t “man up” and set a goal of leaving this country to those that follow in a condition that will allow them to thrive then we will have failed. If we, and those that follow us, continue to look to the gvmt and what it can do for us, then as a country we will fall by the wayside and rather than being leaders of the free world, we’ll just become part of the world, self centered and self absorbed in our own survival. Will the world be a better place if China or some other country becomes the dominant power? Are they the shining light on the hill?

That’s why he’s still there 16 yrs. later right? And Of course all our fine politicians get free health care but you know they deserve it with the hard job they have and all. And it’s not resorting to racism when it’s the truth, man up and admit it if your one of em, if not the comment doesn’t apply to you the racist know who they are… Gonna go get my case of old milwaukee draft ice light and watch some football impregnate my wife for the 5th time and go get on welfare I might as well join em since i can’t beat em glad all you smart folks out there are so gracious as to direct my life in the right direction thanks one and all.

Well Bengal - You don’t have to be a minority to play the race card and you’ve just proven that. Last night at the Tea Party I watched several thousand people cheer on Herman Cain, a successful black businessman with conservative values, with some even encouraging him to run for Prez. Thats not exactly racist reaction. Has it ever occurred to you that people disagree simply because they think the other is wrong? You did a pretty good job of outlining the many objections many have to the policies of this Prez. If the people did not want Republicans saying “no”, then Democrats would be miles ahead by now; yet, that doesn’t seem to be the case. Could it be that many think the Prez wrong and see his policies as damaging? Could it be that many are worried about the massive spending? In a recent poll, some 70%+ of Americans are worried or extremely worried about the country’s debt. In sum, your last commment simply makes no sense. Why would any political party desire only two classes? Ultimately, the poor class would outnumber the rich and bad things happen as in Venezula. Conservatives believe the only way out of the current mess is to unleash the creativity and innovation of the people by creating gvmt policies which allows that to happen. Regulate it - yes, but do not choke it off as this administration is doing. Allow those who work hard to reap their reward, not mandate it be shared by giving it to the gvmt and allowing them to spend it foolishly. Face it Bengal - when all you got left is excuses (ie, racism) and name calling, then your tank is empty.

Well Pittsburgh Leslie’s original post is now gone so who knows what she said. Sorry for my inference. It was “grate” for you to comment, in the future I’ll make sure I run my blog through grammar and spell check so I don’t offend you. I am not a second class citizen and just how is this current admin trying to tell me how to live? I admit that while the President was running he made claims that he has yet to act on and in some instances he has absolutely dropped the ball. There is no transparency, there are plenty of lobbyist, the pork continues, and the health care plan sucks I readily agree. It’s my personal opinion that too many folks are simply so racist (I’m caucasian so don’t try to say I’m playing the race card)and bigoted that they (including the majority of republicans in congress)that they just can’t stand a man of color being in the white house it simply kills them. This has made the republican party the party of no. No to anything that will show any inkling of progress or success for the President so he’s simply doomed, America is way too racist to have a Afro-American president. With that said I’ll just shut my lazy mouth and mind up and watch what is left of our great country be sold to the highest bidder because that’s the real agenda of the republican party, to make us a society of 2 classes the rich and the poor. They’ve been planning this for a very long time and the pieces are finally coming together for them. You folks on the blogs here have won your all right and we’re all wrong. Now go find you a nice white guy to take over and when they finally get around to selling you out (and it’s coming) don’t say no warn you. and btw is TRS an acronym Typical Republican Stoolie?

Nice try at historical rewrite independent - Reagan was responsible for the policies which brought about the longest economic expansion in history. Clinton benefited from the peace dividend. Clinton increase of taxes had very little effect on the deficit or the economic expansion. Actually it was the ‘94 Contract with America which brought about economic stability and allowed for growth. That is evidenced by the fact that Clinton triangulated toward a more middle of the road governance. The current group are no where near the middle - they are in the left (in some cases the far left) lane, peddle to the metal, pursuing policies destined to fail….and those failed policies you claim to be Republican? Actually, they are a result of both parties acting in the same way.

No Way should anyone vote for the proven failed policies of the Republicans. President Clinton created 23 million jobs by creating budget surpluses to reducing the deficits by raising taxes on the people who could afford it without one Republican vote. The Democrats were responible for the biggest economic expansion in the history of U S of A. Voting for the Democrats.

Chicago/Democrats invested their money in green technology, that’s their only motivation for pushing it. This is not the Democratic Party we know; these Democrats have a whole other agenda, in Obama’s words; “redistribute the wealth” Our parents would Not vote for these Democrats, and even though I’ve been a Democrat my entire life, I will be voting Republican in November.

The class warfare declared by the left amazes me.”The Republicans are only for the rich” gets old real quick. You ever see a poor Democrat politician? Who determines what is rich? Who sets the bar and why? I will vote Republican because I want the opportunity to make my own fortune.I take responsibility for my life and work hard to make it better. If I get to the point where I make $250,000 a year all the sudden I’m rich? Taxes already increase as income goes up but apparently that’s not enough.I’ll be waiting for the name of that POOR Democrat senator or congressman if anyone can come up with it.Good luck on that.

I am going to give this Kasich fellow a chance expecting no foolishness from him. Strickland and his green jobs sillyness has gotten us nowhere. Strickland has had his chance. Kasich for gov., Portman for Senate and Boehner for Congress is my vote! I don’t want the United Nations dictating my gun rights when our Constitutional rights are already in place!

No one likes “smears” Bengal and no one likes accusations made w/o evidence such as the one against the Chamber….or perhaps the many derogatory things said about folks who support the Tea Party. I share you concern about smears but please don’t act like it doesn’t go both ways. That only reflects a certain disengneous about your concern.

The thing no one asks “Turnaround Ted” and where he is absolutely wrong is that if such green jobs were economically advantageous, then someone would already be doing them. Everyone wants to make money - so clearly green jobs would already be here if they produced a profit. But the technology is not there. So, Ted has to give corporate welfare to produce these jobs since they are not economically viable without taxpayer financing. More big government by Ted giving taxpayer money to an unproven technology. Misguided? YES

Wake Ohio these guys Kasich and Portman are on a mission for their people believe it or not I do not care it is a fact. These guys are trying to mess with social security, medicare, wages to support a few it is a shame that these guys think people will support them if they are working or not to have no future for retirement or the american dream. If we even think of voting for these shameful individuals who do not create an equality in Ohio or this country we deserve to get whats coming to those idiots in these economic times and it will. The race should not even be close.

I can’t believe how people think reelecting Strickland an Obama Socialist is better then electing an experienced conservative Businessman. If you read the news today you would see people are rioting in France because the socialist can’t give them what they promised. It seems like everybody thinks we can keep on spending money with no consequences. Wake up, one of the reasons the economy is tanking is because the average person can’t afford any more debt.We are all maxed out and our government is about to join us.

Paul explain to me me how Strickland lost NCR? I want specifics! Bill Nutti took NCR away from Ohio and more importantly Dayton. This plan was hatched as soon as Nutti came on board, he wanted to be in Georgia period. State and local leaders all tried to retain NCR but the leadership of NCR wanted no part of the negotiations. I suppose it was his fault DHL left too right Paul? Give me a break, quit watching the TV commercials and think for yourself. I’ll be so glad when the election cycle is over. Read the article in this weeks Time magazine about how a hollywood hack has pumped up the republican campaigns with nothing more than smear statements intended to differ from real issues. I’m quite ashamed to be an American anymore, there are no values left, only smearing someone’s name.

Ted Strickland backed Jennifer Brunner in her refusal to investigate over 200,000 fraudulent votes in Ohio. Ted Strickland backed Obama’s HC entitlement bill that has been proven to be a job killer. Ted Strickland back throwing more of our tax $ away on building a rail system that won’t be self sufficient and will require even more of our tax money to subsidize it. Ted Strickland backs Obama’s agenda to make energy costs necessarily sky rocket by restricting where we get our energy and making us pay for air we breathe in our own homes so they can redistribute it to foreign countries. Have you had enough of Strickland? I have. Voting for Kasich who won’t back Obama’s HC and will work to repeal and defund it. Voting for Kasich who won’t back throwing away more of our tax money for a rail system we can’t afford. Voting for Kasich who will lift Strickland’s mandates on where we get our energy and thus relieve unemployed/struggling Americans who are just trying to make ends meet by keeping energy prices low. Voting for Kasich! Hope you vote for him, too! Vote for Kasich!!!

DDN: “Strickland fears Kasich may abandon Ohio’s mandated goal that by 2025 at least 25 percent of energy sold in the state must come from renewable or advanced energy sources.” I could see why that would scare Strickland, seeing that restricts business and earnings and Kasich would relieve those restrictions and thus alleviate the rise in energy costs. Sounds like Strickland should distract from this issue since Ohioans don’t need to pay more for energy especially when so many people are unemployed and struggling to make ends meet. I think Kasich should talk more about this talking point. But then, Kasich is ahead of Strickland so maybe he doesn’t need to…

Actually True Story republicans want you to have a job so that you can take care of yourself, you know be personally responsible. It is the democrats that do NOT want you to have a job because they want you dependent on them. They don’t want you to think for your self and certainly not to be responsible for yourself. They want you on the plantation doing what you are told.
