Actor and Dayton native Martin Sheen helping Lee Fisher raise money
Actor Martin Sheen, a Dayton native who played the president on the TV show ‘The West Wing,’ is asking Ohioans to support Democrat Lee Fisher for U.S. Senate.
Sheen sent an e-mail blast out on Fisher’s behalf, asking supporters to chip in ten bucks toward Fisher’s campaign.
Fisher is trailing Republican Rob Portman in both fund-raising and poll numbers.
“He stands for the working people of this state and is committed to bringing jobs to Ohioans while protecting health care reform, Social Security, and unemployment insurance,” Sheen wrote. “Congressman Portman is absolutely the wrong choice. He supports big businesses at the expense of Ohio jobs and thinks being senator is nothing more than a stepping stone for higher office.”
Washington Post columnist David Broder mentioned Portman as a possible Republican party nominee for president in 2016.

TweetKasich leads Strickland by 8 points, Ohio Poll says
With less than three weeks to go before Election Day, Republican John Kasich now leads incumbent Democrat Ted Strickland by eight points in the Ohio governor’s race, according to the Ohio Poll released Friday.
Fifty-one percent of likely voters say they’ll vote for Kasich while 43 percent are behind Strickland, the poll found.
Republican Rob Portman’s lead over Democrat Lee Fisher in the U.S. Senate race opened up further to 22 points, the poll said. Among likely voters, 58 percent say they’re voting for Portman while 36 percent are supporting Fisher.
The Ohio Poll, conducted by the University of Cincinnati Institute for Policy Research, called 705 likely voters on their landlines and cell phones between Oct. 8 and 13. The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.7 percent.
The same poll in September showed Strickland trailing Kasich by four points and Fisher behind Portman by 15 points.
