Actor and Dayton native Martin Sheen helping Lee Fisher raise money

Actor Martin Sheen, a Dayton native who played the president on the TV show ‘The West Wing,’ is asking Ohioans to support Democrat Lee Fisher for U.S. Senate.

Sheen sent an e-mail blast out on Fisher’s behalf, asking supporters to chip in ten bucks toward Fisher’s campaign.

Fisher is trailing Republican Rob Portman in both fund-raising and poll numbers.

“He stands for the working people of this state and is committed to bringing jobs to Ohioans while protecting health care reform, Social Security, and unemployment insurance,” Sheen wrote. “Congressman Portman is absolutely the wrong choice. He supports big businesses at the expense of Ohio jobs and thinks being senator is nothing more than a stepping stone for higher office.”

Washington Post columnist David Broder mentioned Portman as a possible Republican party nominee for president in 2016.

Who cares? One would have to be pretty shallow minded to be influenced by an actor. Fisher is toast and so are many other Dems.

Martin Sheen is full of it supporting Fisher! Besides, I think he is wasting his time! I think Portman has a strong lead and that is good. Portman is a good down to earth man that is smart! He will stand by the rights our constitution provides! No to Fisher! I support Portman, Kasich and Boehner!

I have to agree with Sara RE Martin Sheen. He does seem to be a caring person and active in the causes he supports and has supported ; Wright State drama department being one. He also holds dual citizenship; US and Ireland. The news story, however, isn’t clear if Sheen acted on his own volition or was contacted by Fisher’s campaign. That Fisher is so far down in the poll numbers makes a ‘Hollywood’ endorsement take on an appeal to St. Jude…you know, the patron saint of ‘lost causes.’

Well, Sheen is a decent guy, no matter what you ignorant people may think. Graduated from Chaminade, is still married to his 1st and only wife, and is neither a druggie nor an alcoholic. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. All of you must be in line for sainthood, seeing as how you all seem so quick to cast stones at Sheen. Who cares what his political standing is, it’s a free country, he can support whoever he wants. And he has lots of family and friends still in the Dayton area, so he does have a personal interest in this area. But my point is, how dare you attack his personal character just because you don’t share his political views. The two are not related in any way. Grow up and try acting like decent humans. try acting like real Christians for once. Jerks.

hey nullbill, Instead of whining about “rich” (what a laugh) scumsucking republicans; you too can be well to do financially if you get up off of your lazy “I’m entitled to it” butt and get to work. The American dream is alive for anyone who puts forth the effort.

I enjoy good acting and feel disappointment in Sheen that he supports Fisher! The great thing about Americans is that they react when they realize we are heading the wrong direction. I support people who will stand up for my rights like Portman and Boehner! I support individualism, freedom from govt. mandates on healthcare, I support our independence from the United Nations and I don’t think we should answer to them regarding our Nuke weapons, our personal weapons, our borders or our support for Israel. We do the right thing!

Wasn’t that Martin Sheen and Rob Reiner standing on a podium with Howard Dean a few years back? How did THAT work out?

DDN Reporting on the Dayton Tea Party was totally inaccurate - yet notice how no comments are allowed on that article? Hmmmmmmm. As for Sheen, all the more reason to vote for Portman.

I don’t care what a Hollywood star has to say, but I also don’t care what George Soros, the Kock brothers, or Glen Beck have to say. So what’s your point?

EXACTLY…aren’t we all tired of “THE STARS”? “Oooooo…the stars! Let us bow and listen to their pearls of wisdom.” Bunch of flunked-out, drugged-up alcoholic know-nothings.

When you’re 22-points behind in the game in the final two minutes, Hollywood wouldn’t be the first place an Ohioan would go for help…..LOL…Obama has abandoned both Strickland and Fisher in a state he needs to carry in 2012. Fat chance!

He can call on John Wayne also. He is dead and so is Fisher’s campaign.
