TweetKasich ally files complaint against Strickland campaign in NRA rating dispute
State Rep. Danny Bubp, R-West Union, an ally of Republican gubernatorial candidate John Kasich, on Monday filed a complaint against Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland’s campaign with the Ohio Elections Commission.
The complaint charges that a Strickland campaign press release “falsely refers” to “John Kasich’s ….’F’ rating from the National Rifle Association.”
Kasich has a “B” rating from the group, which has endorsed Strickland for governor, the complaint says. The NRA Web site has a “B” rating for Kasich and “A+” for Strickland.
Bubp, a life member of the NRA, said in a press release:
“I’m a proud NRA member which is why I am outraged that Ted Strickland is lying about John Kasich’s NRA rating.”
The Strickland campaign had no immediate response. Kasich did receive an “F” rating from the NRA in the 1990s when, as a U.S. House member, he voted for a ban on assault weapons, according to news reports.
The elections commission has scheduled a probable cause hearing for Thursday to determine if the complaint should go forward.
The complaint cites an Oct. 22 Strickland campaign media advisory that refers to Kasich’s “‘F’ rating from the National Rifle Association.”
The NRA has given Auditor Mary Taylor, Kasich’s running mate, an “A” and has given Yvette McGee Brown, Strickland’s running mate, a “F” rating.

TweetKasich kicks off GOP tour
Republican John Kasich kicked off a three-day bus tour with the statewide GOP ticket on Monday at the Everal Barn & Homestead in his hometown of Westerville.
Kasich accused Gov. Ted Strickland and other Democrats of running a dirty race full of mudslinging and accusations.
“Shame on them. Do they have one good, positive idea in their brain? I don’t think so,” he shouted to a crowd of 200 supporters.
Strickland campaign spokeswoman Lis Smith said the governor has been talking on the campaign trail about efforts to create jobs, bring green energy to Ohio and reform the K-12 education system.
The governor does drill into Kasich’s job as a managing director with investment bank Lehman Brothers and as a $50,000-a-year senior fellow at Ohio State University, Smith said. “If John Kasich thinks that’s a smear, why did he take those jobs?” she said.
Kasich took swipes at former President Bill Clinton, Vice President Joe Biden and President Barack Obama. Obama will make his 12th visit to Ohio on Sunday when he headlines a rally with Strickland in Cleveland. Biden will make a campaign stop in Toledo this weekend too.
“Joe Biden has been here 20 times. We pray every night that he’ll come 20 more times,” Kasich said.
Kasich and other Republican leaders said next week’s mid-term election is important for the 2012 presidential election as well.
