Voters pass library levies
Librarians are cheering voters’ decisions to pass 30 of 38 proposed library issues on the Nov. 2 ballot.
But many of the levies will generate only enough money to replace the 31 percent state funding cut libraries saw in the last state budget cycle, according to the Ohio Library Council.
Public libraries across the state have cut their materials and personnel budgets and are open fewer hours, even though library usage is hitting record levels.

You do realize that people use libraries for a variety of community, senior and education and literacy programs, right Andy? You do realize not everyone can afford to buy any book/movie/cd they want, right? You do realize that not everyone (especially children who increasingly need highspeed internet access for school) can afford internet or even computers, right? And if you honestly think people (they are not ‘dirtbags’, let’s not be classist) just go to libraries to pick up DVDs, you are sorely sorely mistaken. Not everything that is funded by tax dollars is bad, why can’t people see that?

Some of us are tired of the “garbage” that we are paying for on Cable/satellite TV. Reading books can take you away from everyday drama. It is also important to mention that some children are not fortunate enough to have home computers and many schools require work done with computers. Not all of us use the libraries to rent DVDs.

I’m sick and tired of paying more and more taxes so dirtbags can rent dvds at the library and play on the computer. You’d call me crazy if I said your tax dollars should be used to rent me dvds at Blockbuster. So why is it acceptable for tax dollars to go to dvd rentals at a library? Its absurd. Its thievery.
