Poll: Ohio voters support Washington tax deal, back Obama over GOP rivals

Ohio voters support the tax and unemployment benefits deal that Democratic President Barack Obama negotiated with Congressional Republicans, according to a Public Policy Polling survey released Monday.

Also, the poll shows Obama with narrow leads over two potential 2012 opponents, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

Obama has bigger leads over two others, former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich and 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin

The tax and benefits deal, now before the U.S. Senate, calls for a two-year extension of all Bush tax cuts and also a continuation of long-term unemployment benefits.

Overall, Voters support the deal, 45-32 percent. There is little difference along party lines. Among Republicans, 48 percent are in favor, while 47 percent of independents and 42 percent of Democrats back it.

In the poll, Obama leads Huckabee, 45-44 percent, and Romney, 44-42 percent - both leads within the poll’s margin of error of plus or minus 4.3 percent.

Obama leads Gingrich, 47-41 percent and Palin, 49-42 percent.

Despite the leads, 49 percent disapprove Obama’s performance, compared to approval from 42 percent.

The poll was taken Friday, Dec. 10 - Sunday, Dec. 12, with 510 registered voters across the state.

I took classes in college to learn how to write polls to get the exact results I wanted and it worked. Show me the exact questions in this poll. Bush did not inherit a surplus. I like how people make up facts. Bush inherited a recession which like all other recessions caused a major decline in tax revenue from high unemployment. There was a surplus the previous year. Also, who was responsible for the surplus Clinton or the republican congress who made major cuts in spending. Also the dot com was the only reason for increased tax revenues which had absolutely nothing to do with the government (either party). Why can’t we all work together instead of pointing fingers. The bottom line is we are broke.

This poll was surely taken in a manner that was inappropriate. Obama ahead of other candidates, I don’t think so. I won’t forget that this President has nearly sold us out to the United Nations! He has asked the United Nations to evaluate the United States and human rights. From my perspective, the United Nations cannot, and should not have influence over our constitutional rights. The President was wrong to lower America as he made such an invitation. He is wrong to seek the treaty with Russia and wrong to decrease our weaponry. His socialism is evident in his actions!

I don’t have much confidence in the poll figures. I do, however, believe the Republicans were supportive of keeping the Bush tax cuts and unemployment coverage going before Obama came aboard. I am glad the Pres. supports it because it is important to alot of people. The leads, according to this article, of Obama over the others are possibly related to the way the polls were taken. Obama’s conduct in creating the healthcare bill, his association with George Soros, Van Jones, Cass Sunstein and even the big headed, wealthy New York Mayor, Bloomberg, makes him a most undesireable President!

People seem to forget that George W. Bush inherited a balanced budget, with surplus. He gave the tax breaks when he was advised not to. Even Warren Buffet says the wealthy should pay more taxes. Things were going down hill before Obama became president. He inherited a mess. We don’t know if things would have been any better if a republican had become president. It could have been worse.

This poll is a joke . . of course they will favor Obama. People couldn’t wait 2012 election. We need to have a experienced president. Obama did not even run a gasoline station let alone a country and it shows.

The Public Policy Polling? Seriously? These numbers are quite different from the more respectable and unbiased polling companies. This last elections showed us all quite convincingly, that the majority of Ohioans reject Obama’s policies. Leave it to the DDN to ignore reality.

In two years I hope you’ll remember who demanded tax breaks for the wealthiest 2%,refused healthcare for 1st responders and are responsible for the debt. At least Pelosi doesn’t cry!

Please check the 5th paragraph. “Among Republicans, 48 percent are in favor, while 47 percent of Democrats and 42 percent of Democrats back it.” What did you mean to say?
