Widener, Lehner named Senate committee chairs

Two Dayton-area lawmakers were named Senate committee chairs Wednesday by Senate President Tom Niehaus, R-New Richmond - Sen. Chris Widener, R-Springfield, to head the Finance Committee and Sen. Peggy Lehner, R-Kettering, to head the Education Committee.

Area senators will hold the top two spots on the Finance Committee, with Sen. Shannon Jones, R-Clearcreek Twp., in the number two spot as vice chair.

Sen. Keith Faber, R-Celina, also will serve on the Finance Committee and will be vice chair of the Insurance, Commerce and Labor Committee.

Sen. Bill Beagle, R-Tipp City, was named vice chair of the Financial Institutions Committee.

Dayton-area lawmakers also hold two of the top Senate Republican leadership posts - Faber as president pro tem, the number two spot, and Jones as majority whip, the number four spot.

Republicans control the Senate, 23-10.
