Burga to head Ohio AFL-CIO
Following in his father’s footsteps, Tim Burga will head the Ohio AFL-CIO, a statewide labor federation of 650,000 workers.
The Ohio AFL-CIO executive board on Friday named Burga to fill the unexpired term of former president Joe Rugola.
“I look forward to continuing to advance the Ohio AFL-CIO’s mission of fighting for good jobs and strong communities,” Burga said.
Burga is a third generation member of the United Steelworkers union, a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University and a 25-year veteran of government affairs and political campaigns. Burga has been with the Ohio AFL-CIO since 2002 serving as chief of staff and overseeing the federation’s government relations.
In 2007, Bill Burga — Tim Burga’s father — retired as president after 14 years in the position.
