Dem lawmaker unveils “Taxpayers Right to Know Act” -critical of “JobsOhio”
Rep. Matt Lundy, D-Elyria, on Monday unveiled the “Taxpayers Right to Know Act” which would make public-private partnerships such as Republican John Kasich’s JobsOhio plan subject to Ohio’s public records and open meetings laws.
“Government operating in the dark is very dangerous for taxpayers,” Lundy, a former TV journalist, said at a Statehouse press conference. For drama, Lundy had the lights doused to create darkness as the press conference started.
Rob Nichols, Kasich’s spokesman, said the governor generally doesn’t comment on pending legislation but this time would:
“JobsOhio will be transparent. We are committed to working to provide more sunshine into the process but at the end of the day the governor is committed to doing what JobsOhio is intended to do … create jobs in the state.”
The House last week passed House Bill 1, which would create JobsOhio.
Senate committee hearings are scheduled this week. Open meeting and public records law would not apply to the public-private partnership created by the bill.
Kasich is to address the Dayton chamber’s board of trustees on the legislation on Feb. 16 at the Dayton Convention Center.
JobsOhio would replace the state development department which Nichols called a “dysfunctional, calcified failure.”
JobsOhio would be run by a nine-member board, headed by the governor.

Kasich is trying to bring jobs to Ohio and Democrats are doing everything they can to tear it apart. Why are Democrats so distrustful? What are they afraid of? Where were the Democrats when Pelosi said “you have to pass the bill before you can find out what’s in it” ??!

(and poor grammar) It kind of shows/tells you something doesn’t it? SG,if I wasn’t married I’d be courting you.(grin)

Just had to weigh in on Squirrellygirl - dead on, my dear. Thank you, you’re helping to re-establish my faith in Ohioans. Tired of listening to people who can’t see both sides of an argument.

Kasich is a typical light weight right wing ideology, rhetoric without substance. Deregulation and tax cuts solves every issue - NOT. The Bush tax cuts have be in effect for ten years with the worse job creation since the Republican Depression of the 1930’s. The correct spelling is “Faux News” for fake cable news channel, anyone that thinks there “fair and balance” has no sense of reality. Question, will Kasich budget cuts, stop fifty thousand speaking fees at Ohio State University for a former Faux News contributor and bankrupt Lehmans Wall street firm politcal influnce crony losing Ohio pension millions of dollars = Kasich.

This is a good idea. Taxpayers do have a right to know.

judi - everything in SG’s comments are facts. Just because you disagree with somethings does not means its not true!!! There has been little to no transparency in the Obama administration and this is a well documented fact. Maybe you should actually watch Glenn Beck since he does something most others cannot do, states references for everything he talks about.

Judi, If you disagree with Sq-girl then attack her facts with facts of your own. Instead you make the tired Fox/Beck reference… That’s weak and intellectually shallow. Aren’t you the former Ohioan, who just last week chose to also attack all people who reside in Ohio as stupid, with a post whose grammar and spelling that would insult the average fourth grader.

Squirrelygirl: get back on your meds. You spout all those FOX “facts” like they actually ARE facts. Glenn Beck would be proud!

What a laugh! The only light former economic development director Lt. Governor Lee Fisher ever wanted was a spotlight on his overinflated ego.

Where were you when Democrats were shutting out Republicans and all Americans on health care talks behind closed doors? You liberals only use the law when it serves your own purposes. Like Obama said about the stem cell research “It isn’t about religion, it’s about the law” but when it came to using our laws properly regarding the hc bill “I don’t want to get caught up in the law” and Pelosi’s “we’ll go around, and under, and over the law to get it passed” — UH HUH! Transparency? BTW, has anyone told Obama this is a REPUBLIC not a DEMOCRACY? Do taxpayers have the right to make their own hc decisions according to the Democrats? No? Start over, and this time let the Republicans in on the discussions. BTW, what did Obama do with the list of names of people who were against his hc bill? And that lady in health and human services is back…she got a pay increase, too! Does she have access to private citizens’ personnel records? She should be in prison, along with Obama and Holder and the rest of them guys who don’t respect our Constitution and our laws.
