Bargaining bill foes plan Dayton training session for signature gathering
Opponents of Senate Bill 5 on Monday will gather in Dayton for a training session for how to gather signatures to put the issue before voters in November.
The legislation would limit collective bargaining for public employees and is strongly opposed by labor groups.
Gov. John Kasich and other supporters say it will level the playing field between government employers and workers and save money for state and local governments and school districts.
The training session will be at 6 p.m. at the Dayton Miami Valley AFL-CIO Regional Labor Council’s office, 4127 E. Second St., according to Andy Richards, Ohio AFL-CIO spokesman.
Opponents have until June 30 to gather signatures from 231,147 registered voters if they want to put the issue on the ballot.
Similar training sessions are set for Monday and throughout the week in other cities, said Richards.

Isn’t the DDN going to cover the fact that databases are being hacked? I got e-mails from Krogers and Chase Bank that said their databases had been hacked and that my e-mail address might start receiving some spam. I’m concerned regarding what personal information these “hackers” now have access to…and how it relates to the Union Leader Lerner’s plans to sabotage our economy. He had targeted Chase Bank, and I think that is quite a coincidence. And also, why isn’t our Homeland Security or AG Holder looking into the Unions ties with economical terrorism? What is going on and why isn’t DDN reporting on it?

This reminds me of our own President Obama’s speech comparing illegals that come into our country from the southern border to slaves who were brought here against their will and other aliens who came here LEGALLY. All Obama wants is their votes. They are too ignorant to realize that they are being used, manipulated, by this administration for votes. It’s sickening.

I just pray that God opens the eyes of those who are deceived by this administration and their ties to the unions and the other “questionable” characters like Van Jones, a self-proclaimed communist and birther. This is the worst threat this country has right now. Our very existence as a free nation could be ending with the assistance of the current administration. Even the Republicans aren’t fighting it very hard. Boehner disappoints me regarding his turn on taxing oil companies. Surely he knows that will hit the poor in their pocketbooks. Do you think they won’t pass those taxes on to the citizens who need to use gas/oil? Boehner sounds like a progressive to me now.

Nothing these union supporters say on these blogs makes any sense intellectually whatsoever. It is plain to see that these intellectually challenged people could be destructive given any power.Education does not equal intellect, clearly. Many times those who have spent the most years in school are the most lacking as others have been producing and not sitting in a classroom.

Do you not understand that signing a petition, registering to vote, are not the same as showing up at the polling place and actually proving who you are and voting? i doubt that the person who states he has voted multiple times has ever voted even one time.

What you don’t think of no matter what your politics is with SB5 you loose your right to have a say in your future. They say we need new jobs in Ohio and then give our new Construction jobs to an out of State contractor. Ohio will be a Ghost State if we continue. We have to start helping each other. I don’t mind a tax increase if I pay my 10% I want everyone to pay their 10% that is the tax decreas we got that started this downward sprial.

I love how the unions are able to always get a bunch of paid Grassroots volunteers” for things like this. I could have employed more people and save the taxpayer a boatload but lost out on bids because of a union requirement they would get put in. So instead of a quality product that is safer and works much better, many government buildings will be wasting money and we will all pay a lot more in the long run too. But hey, unlike competing products that have unions, my specialty does not have any and the idea of letting someone touch thousands of dollars of equipment with out knowing what they are doing like one union suggested is stupid. I also see no reason to send a bunch of guys to get expensive training in other states by the manufacture’s of the products and equipment to then over pay them so the company and I make nothing as a workable idea. But hey, unions are the end all and be all of everything right?

The funniest part about these comments is that you all absolutely miss the point. The problem with state budgets isn’t with collective bargaining, it’s with the structural deficiencies in the economy. State officials made bets on the market, pinned pensions to that market, and when the absolutely craptastic fraud of the mortgage CDOs blew up, so did the pension plans. Down went the economy, and so did tax revenues. And STILL, that’s not the issue here. The problem is, as always, is campaign financing. The “logic” behind SB5 is that unions contribute to elections so they get to bargain with officials they helped elect. Change campaign financing, and that problem goes away and now, both sides bargain on fair ground. The campaign financing problems go deeper. Companies that do business with the state and local governments also contribute to elections, seeking to get officials elected who are friendly to what they sell. This is how we continually end up going over-budget on projects, companies get no-bid contracts, and keep getting paid whether or not they finish the project or stop working on it. Stop focusing on the superficial. Stop focusing on the sleight-of-hand, because you’re all being fooled.

I bet Obama wants the limitations on unions over turned. He likes to get in with bargaining unions and use as a political toy. I think it is time to stop the Obama train wreck and send him packing in 2012. The unions have been used for corruption for so long when they were intended to help the coal miner or shoe maker. Teachers think they deserve raises when the rest of us out here do without.

I hope to see a signature gathering session to recall the Ohio smoking ban- indoor. That was done in an under handed way on the ballot and is a socialist, politically correct law. I want it done away with. When my family and I are not receiving pay increases, teachers don’t deserve pay raises either.

I don’t know why they are bothering to have a “training session.” They’re just going to use a lot of fake names and addresses anyway, like they do when registering voters.

I think the training is more to the effect of making certain the signer is a resident of the County listed on the Petition, what to do, what not to do, &c. According to the groups that oppose the bill, this affects 350,000 Ohio jobs. Out of 5,212,000? That’s 6.7%.

Buy me some smokes and a bottle of Wild Irish Rose and I’ll sign your petition. Pssst, I’m not only Donald Duck, I’m a few other cartoon characters and a few dead guys too.
