UPDATED with Boehner reaction: Speaker Boehner approval dips in new poll
U.S. House Speaker John Boehner’s approval rating dipped in a new USA TODAY/Gallup Poll that showed Americans are just as likely to say they have an unfavorable as a favorable opinion of Boehner.
In the new poll, released Wednesday, 34 percent had a favorable view of Boehner, a Republican from West Chester Township in Butler County, the same percentage that viewed him unfavorably.
In January, when Boehner took over as speaker, 42 percent viewed him favorably, compared to 22 percent who viewed him unfavorably.
Boehner’s spokeswoman Brittany Bramell provided this reaction in an email:
“The Speaker is focused on the big challenges facing our country — and, thus far, the Democrats who still run Washington seem more focused on partisan attacks than real solutions.”
The trend in Boehner’s rating this year is similar to what Gallup found for Democrat Nancy Pelosi when she took over as speaker in 2007, an analysis found.
The poll was taken Wednesday, April 20, through Saturday, April 23, with a random sample of 1,013 adults and had a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

If obama really wanted to create jobs, he’d lose the unions. The fact that the NLRB is trying to prevent Boeing from putting a new plant in S.C. is utterly ridiculous. This is why companies outsource. Unions have no risk, they’re just “takers”, but they’re trying to force companies to take actions that don’t make business sense.

Dale you should feel like a fool. Exon Mobile paid $10 billion in taxes and only 3 percent of their sales are in the US. But hey facts are irrelevant just spread your propaganda.

Boehner is a career politician who is not yielding the Speaker’s gavel for the good of the country but for his own power and position; just as oligarchs of BOTH parties. Hence, it is not surprising that his positions are ambivalent, his actions wavering, or his leadership tearful.

I heard Boehner went back and forth on reinstating taxes on oil companies. This will be passed on to the consumers (you and me). I guess $4.16/gal isn’t enough. And Obama wants to add more gas taxes in his deficit plan. Obama’s slogan should be “Read my lips…if you can catch them”—you see, he said he wouldn’t raise taxes on the poor or middle class. Who does HE think uses gas in their cars, or energy for heat? He’s okay with Quantitative Easing by the FED which is devaluing our dollar by the same amount that the gas prices are skyrocketing. Um, do ya THINK there might be a correlation there? You think! Part of O’s plan to make energy prices necessarily skyrocket, eh? So, if we don’t have jobs AND NO HOPE FOR JOBS IN THE FUTURE, which party do you think would benefit from that? Which party do you think would give freebies to unemployed? No cars on the road, no jobs, no money in the bank, and chaos here and around the world. And “workers of the world unite!” yeah, the unions have NOTHING to do with this (SNARK!). How about those Boeing jobs in SC? Unions say NO to jobs in SC, right? Because it benefits SC HOW?????? Unions are sabotaging our banks, stockmarkets, economy with the HELP of this administration. Boehner needs to stick with the American people and say no to the government raising taxes on oil/gas companies, or you can be assured your gas will continue to rise. And btw, who is going to interrogate the FED about what they have done to our U.S. dollar? Anyone…???

Karon, how are people going to “build smart” when they can’t AFFORD these green and energy saving products? Hint, we are in that industry and notice my points about all the increases in hidden taxes before we even get to the end client based on corporate taxes and regulations that we have to pay.

You are all misguided by all of this political bickering. Dems and Repubs are one and the same-corporate lackeys. Nothing will ever change until we get rid of lobbyists and set term limits for congress.

Let me demonstrate how business works for you who are upset wanting to tax them instead of people. I have a small business and just fired the last employee besides myself. Not because of greed but because all my costs are going up with a lot of it in taxes on the companies I get my materials from meaning they raise their prices. Add in the many new regulations that have been hitting from all sides and the costs have jumped. But if I even try to raise my prices to cover those costs and also the increased costs for me to deal with the increased regulations and more and suddenly I am accused of ripping people off and gouging them. Ok, people do not want or can’t pay for all these increased costs we had and that made business go down. Since we do not do business with the government because that is strictly for insiders who buy lunches for the right government employees no matter what party is in power, then they are the only ones getting more business now. My choice is shut down totally, kill all off except me and hope we can weather it through with my taking a second jobs or go bribe the right people in government. But the liberals and democrats think I am at fault for not providing huge benefits and pay packages and demonize me as the greedy one who should pay more taxes. If you want unions and all those great pay and benefit packages for them, then fine but don’t then keep complaining about the high costs and poor quality which is the first thing the democrats keep doing. While GM and others got bailouts for the unions, everyone else got nadda but increased regulations and costs. It is also why you suddenly see that the unions and politicians who supported things like Obamacare are suddenly being able to be exempted from it. You want everyone ELSE to pay for things to ensure people get great pay and benefits but you then go to Walmart and get stuff made overseas since it is cheaper since you can’t AFFORD to pay what is required for those things you demand employers provide here in the USA.

Squirrelly is right about one thing……..if big oil loses subsidies, they’ll pass the loss on to consumers. We’ll pay more for everything we buy. They will not jeopardize their record profits.

Obama does support unions and I have no problem with that. But he has also supported pro-business measures, including over 15 tax cuts for businesses. Boehner, on the other habnd, is completely biased toward corporations and against average tax payers. As a previous post said, “Just look at Boehner’s voting record.”

Hey squirrelly girl.Iagree the fed pouring money into the system is not a good thing . But why should you and Ipay more taxes while corporations pay none . GE,BoA, Exon , paid either no tax at all or rates lower than you did. I feel like a fool because i play by the rules and i get shafted .

You are mistaken squirrelly: What Boehner said is we need to look at ending subsidies for oil companies. They receive $billions in subsidies from taxpayers, yet they have record profits. That was actually a good thing for him to say and a GREAT idea! But, his masters quicky reined him back in. How do you like paying Boehner $223,500 and extremely overly generous benefits from taxpayers pockets while he is really working for Big Oil, Big Banks, insurance and tobacco companies?

With his new high profile position, more people will take a closer look, and discover he takes pay offs from insurance companies, to keep our inhumane health care system in place.

I’m concerned about Boehner’s remarks that maybe we needed to look at higher taxes on oil. That concerns me because everybody, especially the poor, will be impacted by this. These taxes and hikes are ALWAYS passed on to the consumers. We need to concentrate on where the problem is really coming from: the FED printing money. The oil spikes can be compared on the similar scale to the FED’s introducing more money into circulation. Quantitative Easing (QE) is devaluing our dollar and that’s why energy prices are skyrocketing.
