About A Matter of Opinion
This is the blog of the Dayton Daily News editorial page. Regular contributors include the journalists who work on the two-page section labeled "Opinions" in the paper. But the blog is also a forum for readers. We comment on subjects that are being written about in the newspaper, but other subjects are fair game, too.
Ellen Belcher is the Dayton Daily News opinion pages editor. She writes about state government, education, the environment, higher education and all things Dayton.
Martin Gottlieb is an editorial writer and columnist for the Dayton Daily News opinion pages. He focuses on the political process itself and does such national issues as war, the economy, taxes and Social Security, as well as a hodge-podge of local and state issues.
Scott Elliott is an editorial writer and columnist for the Dayton Daily News opinion pages. He writes about education, city and suburban issues, politics, business, workforce and consumer issues.

Sen. John McCain’s assertion that he understands this election is special to African-Americans is met by grumbling here at Montgomery County Democratic Headquarters. Some felt McCain’s campaign included race-baiting tactics.

Pity - some can’t even be gracious in victory. That doesn’t seem to symbolize the speech I just heard from President Elect Obama

You know it is Amazing, that the truth Just Reaches out and Grabs you where you think it shouldn’t. John McCain’s speach, was an exact thought that Americans need to take into their hearts. Yes, I am caucasion, but, apart from an enormous amount of Black votes Obama recieved for Just being Black is exactly the point some don’t want to ackkowledge. I vote on the Ramparts contained within a candidate, regardless of Race,Color or Creed. The 2008 Presidential election is a Moment in Time as a Fact. If I place my support for someone because they are Pink, White, Black, or Green is my choice if they look the same as I. That is also the Right of anyone else who will do the same. The Shame in this all, is that there are those who will make Excuses, and involve themselves in dialogue trying to push that out of everyone’s minds. We all have our reasons for our decisions. We all also have that responsibility to ourselves to accept our decision knowing why. This is an honest thought on a Historical Time. Search yourself, nobody else should do that for you. Good luck to us all, and our Great Nation. If I say I Respect my Nation’s Anthem of Glory, our God, and our Flag, and am thought to be in a Negative for that, then so be it and color me Red,White, and Blue as So should you!
