Cabinet appointment coffee talk

John Kerry for secretary of state? Howard Dean for secretary of health and human services? Paul Volker for treasury secretary? Those are some of the names being floated for cabinet positions in the upcoming Obama administration. It’s about all anyone can talk about when it comes to national politics right now.

One unexpected name being whispered for an unexpected job is Colin Powell for secretary of education. But is this a good idea?

Over at the DDN’s Get on the Bus education blog, I take a shot at answering that question.

I predict Lugar for SOS. Bill Richardson will get a Cabinet post and probably Hillary, maybe in HHS. Powell has said he isn’t interested and I believe him. But Kerry? Why? What are his qualifications? Kerry would be a mistake and Obama doesn’t make many mistakes.

A person who firmly believes in the right of education for every citizen of the country. The long and short term goals should be very clear in such a person’s mind, with a great entusiastic approach to serve the nation for the cause of education.
