Lakota East football prepares for Glen Este
With its Week One loss to Centerville behind it, Lakota East High’s football team is setting its sights on Glen Este.
The Thunderhawks host the Trojans this Friday night, Sept. 4.
“The first day of practice (Monday) was a good one,” East coach Greg Bailie said. “We’ll find out more today. You just play one week at a time, and that’s what we’ll do.”
East beat Glen Este 35-20 last year.
“They look like Glen Este,” Bailie said. “They’re sound in what they do. They’re fundamental, physically tough, they play hard. They really don’t change much over the years.”
Senior RB Pedro Powell, who ran 16 times for 103 yards and a TD in the loss, is healthy.
Senior TE Cory Keebler (knee) has not been. He is scheduled to return to practice today, but probably won’t play until next week at La Salle, Bailie said.
Bailie also reflected on the varsity debut of junior QB Michael Boyd, who 2-for-8 for 17 yards and had a long run of 12 yards.
“For the first game, he played all right,” Bailie said. “He completed some passes and was under a little bit of pressure. It’s going to be a learning process for him throughout the next few weeks. He’s played more quarterback the last three weeks than he’s played in his life. He keeps his cool. Again, he’ll work every day and he does a good job of getting better at things. He’s going to be fine.”
