Big Blue players set records
Lost in the disappointment of a 35-28 overtime loss to Springfield in Saturday’s season opener were a couple of record performances by Hamilton players.
Junior wide receiver Brian Cleckley broke the school record for most touchdown receptions in a game with three, and he also tied the record for most receptions in a game with eight. Charles Singletary also hauled in eight in a 1983 game.
And Drew Townsend tied Andy Mignery’s 1988 school record with four touchdown passes in the game.
The old record of two touchdown receptions in a game was held by 11 players. They are Wes Reed (1980), T. Hamblin (‘86), Todd Prewitt (‘92), Marquis Thompson (‘94), Keith Boyd (‘96), Danny Jones (‘97), Chris Wilhelm (‘98), Brandon Harris (‘02), Marquis Powell (‘07), Arias Turner (‘08) and Kenny Lewis (‘08).
Also of note is the fact that Taft’s Steve Duley holds the district record with four touchdown receptions in a game, set in 1969 during a 70-6 victory against Greenfield.
