Lakota West 24, Lancaster 12 FINAL
Lakota West picks up its first win of the season with a 24-12 victory over Lancaster at Firebird Field.
Here’s the recap:
Mark Fowler scampers 89 yards down the left sideline on the ensuing kickoff for a TD, and Aaron Phelan’s PAT makes it 24-12 Lakota West with 8.5 seconds left in the third quarter.
Lancaster’s Nathan Carpenter scores again, this time from 21 yards out, and it’s West now leading 17-12 with 22.5 seconds left in the third quarter. The two-point conversion rush fails again for the Gales.
The Gales were given a short field by the Firebirds thanks to a bizarre play call. Facing fourth-and-17 from their own 28, the Firebirds ran a fake punt with Jordan Hicks and came up five yards short.
Lancaster gets on the board on Nathan Carpenter’s 23-yard TD run with 3:57 left in the third quarter. The two-point conversion run fails, and West leads 17-6.
On the second play from scrimmage of the second half, senior Jordan Thompson breaks free for a 77-yard TD run. Aaron Phelan’s PAT is good, and Lakota West leads Lancaster 17-0 with 11:02 to go in the third quarter.
On a side note, senior TE Alex Smith is dressed for the game, but hasn’t played. More details on that situation after the game.
