Lakota East High’s football team is 14-26 over the last four seasons. Veteran coach Greg Bailie vows the Thunderhawks will be back in the upper echelon of the GMC.

“One thing to remember is we’ve been there before and we’ll be back there again,” Bailie said. “A mistake would be to do all kinds of drastic things — change the offense, change the defense. … I have confidence we can do it. I think we’ve got good players coming. It’s a matter of redirecting some of our focus a little bit and how we approach things. After every season, we reevaluate everything from the practice schedule to everything else. We’ll continue to do that.”

At this point, Bailie does not foresee any changes to the coaching staff. Does he have another year in him?

“I hope so,” Bailie said. “There’s a mindset in education that after 30 (years), you’re supposed to go. I don’t have interest in pottery. Golf makes me mad. I hate yardwork. I still get after it on the field good. I still run. I like studying film and getting ready for the season. Those are things I have to do. I don’t get tired of those things.”

Bailie said senior TE Cory Keebler (6-6, 225) is attracting interest from MAC schools.

Lakota West senior OLB Jordan Hicks held his weekly media conference call this morning, Nov. 9, and here are the highlights.

—Hicks said he will likely take official visits to USC and Alabama. He’s already taken official visits to Ohio State and Texas, and has one set up for Florida in December.

—Hicks, also an all-GMC basketball player, said he will attend basketball practice beginning on Thursday. He will meet with basketball coach Sean Van Winkle on Wednesday to discuss juggling the hoops season and football recruiting trips.

“As of right now, I’m on the team,” said Hicks, who is still undecided on whether to graduate early.

—Hicks has been invited to play for Team USA in the “Team USA vs. The World” game on Jan. 30, 2010, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
